VIDEO: Rance On the Couch ...
http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2014-08-19/rance-on-the-couch
------------------------------------------------------------------------
RICHMOND defender Alex Rance was the special guest on the program.
Rance spoke about several topics including his niggling tactics against Adelaide forward Taylor Walker.
“We had a few nice words to each other,” he said.
“I loved the contest ... I would never complain about anything he did to me and I’m sure he wouldn’t complain.”
Rance put the club’s seven-game win streak to the players taking responsibility for the poor start to the season.
“We had a few good chats ... to lift our standards,” he said.
Rance said in-form big man Ben Griffiths was among those to benefit.
“He’s a beautiful kick and got great hands,” he said.
“[We asked him] do you believe as much as we believe in you.
“He’s shown in the past couple of weeks that he can play.”
Rance also said he had at one stage gone close to being traded to Hawthorn.
“Dimma (Tigers coach Damien Hardwick) by his own admission tried to trade me for a box of stubbies at that time.”

Rance almost traded the Tigers for the Hawks

RICHMOND'S Alex Rance has revealed he met with Hawthorn to discuss a potential trade before recommitting to the Tigers.
Rance did not specify which season it was, but confirmed on Monday he talked about the prospect of joining the Hawks with then board member Jason Dunstall.
"Dimma (Richmond coach Damien Hardwick) by his own admission tried to trade me for a box of stubbies at that time," Rance said on Fox Footy.
Key defender Rance has played a crucial role in the Tigers' seven-match winning streak.
The team faces St Kilda and the Sydney Swans in the final two rounds of the season and is on the cusp of achieving a finals berth that was unfathomable when they started the season with a 3-10 win-loss record.
"Who knows what can happen," Rance said.
The 24-year-old played in Richmond's season-opening loss to Gold Coast, but then missed five games with a broken foot he sustained while falling off a bike.
Influential ruckman Ivan Maric and playmaker Brett Deledio also missed large chunks of the first half of the season, but Rance said the absence of the key trio should be overplayed.
"It's a team game, there's more than three players on the field at one time. Everyone's got to be accountable for their actions," he said.
Rance admitted it was hard to live by that mantra when he told Hardwick about the cycling accident.
"It was like telling your mum you've broken her favourite vase," he joked.
"It wasn't the best experience and I felt gutted.
"Especially when the team wasn't winning as well, I felt a little bit responsible for that ... I wasn't out there helping the boys.
"In saying that, there's always a silver lining. I did learn a lot ... seeing it from the stands."
The Tigers face the Saints at the MCG on Sunday.

Not the craw, the craw!
-
I can say this because I am 100% secure in my heterosexuality...that Rance is one handsome rooster.
-
Has to be the envy of plenty of men, probably why a lot here seem to focus on his homosexual tendencies. Actually can speak really well when he isn't trying to be funny.

I don't care if he violates animals in his free time or likes to self flagellate, as long as he keeps stopping the opposition forwards he can do whatever he likes in his free time. Funniest bloke at the club. :thumbsup

the boy is married ffs ... he plays tough hard at it football and he is probably the best key defender we have had in about 30 years IMHO.
-
Rance always had the makings of a gun player. Hawthorn could see it but guess who couldn't ? Damien Hardwick ! He was too busy trying to get players who couldn't get a game at their current club

+1 I would contemplate stalking him ;)

Agree, best key defender since Jimmy Jess.
However, still needs to iron some disposal bugs out of his game and decision making is not yet completely elite.

Gun.
yeahright is on the money speaks very well.

You're kidding right?
Players are always telling stories that they nearly left clubs - Jono brown recently said he nearly went to collingwood. Was that because barney didn't rate him?
For all we know Hartley wanted to trade and Dimma stepped in - more likely the hawks gave him an offer he thought about before seeing the light!

Would I kid you ? ;D
Not sure wtf you're talking about with the Jono Brown thing ? Apples and oranges. Brown was offered a squillion dollars to come home as one of the best players in the game. Matthews loved him.
What did Rance say Dimma wouldve traded him for ?...and he did say Dimma not Hartley

Nope. I just don't think he's a great judge of talent

An ebullient, larger than life character who played football with verve, persistence and no small amount of 'devil', Jim Jess was a firm favourite among Richmond fans throughout a 223 game VFL career that ran from 1976 to 1988. Known as 'The Ghost', he excelled in both defensive and attacking key positions, often during the course of the same game. Probably his best and certainly his most eventful season was 1980, when he was a major driving force behind a Richmond surge to the premiership.
Was also selected as 1980 AA defender. :thumbsup
