More-so than any other week this game will be won through the midfield. Port relies on a huge amount of inside 50s to feed their smaller forwards. Contested ball is crucial and rebounding from their forward forays. The game will be very much like last weeks but without the same four quarter pressure that Sydney applied. If we can play man-on-man football and make their defenders extremely accountable then much of their run will dry up.
How can we win?
What will be the key match ups
How do we stop their run?
How can Chaplin stick it up Boak? :shh

Except for the first 10 minutes you mean ? When we kicked 33 of our total of 68 points for the game.

We just keep doing what we've been doing. Back our mids to beat theirs and get it down to Jack , Griff , Lids and Dusty.
At the same time Rance and Chappy need to do what they've been doing for 2 months and beat their respective opponents convincingly.
If it gets tight at the death and we get headed as we have been a few times recently then stay calm.....AND FIGHT AND FIGHT AND WIN !

We have brought the heat early in games in this run to the finals however, I'd say Port need to be more concerned about the last minutes of every quarter.
It's frustrated the crap out of me for years that our opposition always hurts us in the last minute or two of a quarter but not recently.We've turned the tables. We score heavily in the time on period.

I think the key with beating Port is to man up (in all ways) and stop their overlap run. Dont allow them the extra man in defense and play Lids and Dusty one out whenever practical in the forward line. They don't have a match up for these guys. Getting the ball into our hands through Maric, Miles, Cotch at co is the first box that needs to be ticked though.
The best thing about Port is that they love to spread and attack which means if we can rebound their offensive forays through Rance, Chappy and Grimes and get it into the hands of a running Houli, Newman or Vlaustin we can score heavily in reply.
We play a very similar attacking brand of football when we go on the offense but I feel we are better defensively than them. This is where we got them last time and where we will get them this time.
Just hope we are switched on and hungry from the first bounce. :gotigers

One thing I did notice watching the last game we beat them is that the reason Gray was relatively quiet was because Jackson tagged him when he was in the midfield and Morris covered him when he was in the forwardline :-\ Will Jackson be brought in for that reason?
Do we 'tag' Westoff with Chaplin? Have Chapling go forward if he plays the extra man in defense or back to defend him if he goes forward?
Boak got 35+ possessions but we won the game. Should we tag him or is his possessions not damaging?

A stat I heard today is that Port are the number 1 team at scoring from stoppages inside their fwd50 whilst in the past 9 weeks we've been the number 1 team at preventing scores from stoppages in the oppositions fwd50.

We do seem to match up well on them. We seem to have very similar attacking games but our defense across the ground is stronger. The inclusion of Trengrove will be interesting.

While that is a danger especially on a fast track, it paradoxically helps us too as there's less opposition numbers across our half-back. Last time, our half-back rebounders - Ellis, Houli and even Lids - had a field day. It was the main reason we won in a bit of a shootout. It'll be interesting today if Port continue to play their slingshot gamestyle or change up and press up the ground more.
In any case, we need to come out hard and win the contested footy as we did in the past few interstate matches against Adelaide and Sydney. We can't give Port first use which suits their outside runners.
