Had no Plan B
-
They had a good finish off to the 2013 season which they didnt carry through to this season so it was a step backwards in that regard. They still lack a key forward which will help them take that next step up.
Haven't their been rumors since Sando got sacked that the players at the bulldogs aren't happy with McCartney either.

This is from BF but it's fairly close to what I've also been told:
From what I've gleamed on the Dogs board this is what's happened
Senior players controlled the club
Young players were getting bullied by the senior players (including Griff)
Young players complained to the club
Senior players told McCartney to pull the young players into line
McCartney told the senior players to show some leadership (aka act your age campaigners)
Senior players went to the board to get McCartney sacked for not listening to them
Board reviews everything and backs McCartney
Club starts getting rid of the players causing issues
Griff now has no friends and has been having chats with GWS for the past 5 months, tells club he wants to leave
Found the quotes:
This is what I've pieced together from more than one source, so there will be some parts that may not be 100% accurate and I'm sure I don't have the complete story. And... I know that I'm going to be ridiculed for posting this on here, especially by those who want the Coach gone. They are going to call rubbish, but here goes:
There has been a rift between the younger players and some of the middle and senior players. Several months ago there was a physical confrontation involved and a bit of verbal stuff that no-one should be proud of. The older players involved went to the coach wanting him to intervene and to back the older guys. Macca didn't back either side and wanted the senior players to show some maturity and leadership and sort it out. That didn't work out well and it resulted in Griffen, on behalf of the older guys (excluding Murphy and Morris), going to the President (or maybe the whole Board) to demand they deal with the situation and pull Macca into line. I don't believe they asked for him to be sacked, but they may have. There are other issues which have been festering between the younger guys and some of the older players which I don't know too much about and so won't speculate on other than to say that Griffen's Captaincy and the big mouth of at least one of the older players have been issues.
So the club is having a changing of the guard within the playing group that has not gone well at all and has been mismanaged by all concerned, but in my mind particularly by the older guys, who have well and truly over-played their hand.
I can confirm this is also the jist of information i have been holding on to for some time. confirmed from 2 high up sources at two tial clubs. Should Macca be sacked, i would not be very certain as to our future, as the youth would then be very angry. they have bought in and see a hand full of older boys as holding us back.
The situation at the club is not waht many think, Macca is not the bad guy here, even if the anti-macca don't watn to hear it, it is the truth

sounds a bit like our club... often hear things from the older players about the young guys needing to 'earn their stripes'
-
like the bs about the reserves not having the same guernsey because the senior players felt it would devalue it, or something along those lines.

Coach gone sen
-
McCartney gone.
-
Word on the street is that he is goneski

Press conference at 11.30am
-
I actually like McCartney as a coach, we should bring him into our club to help Hardwick and the other coaches
-
I've read that his quit but that sounds strange. The board should be backing him to rebuild. If the coach goes and Griffen stays then the players truly do run the club at the bulldogs.

WESTERN Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney has resigned after a tumultuous 24 hours at the club.
President Peter Gordon announced the coach's departure at a media conference on Friday morning, saying feedback from within the club indicated that McCartney's position for the 2015 season was untenable.
McCartney, 53, had coached the club for three years, with the Bulldogs winning 20 of 66 games with him at the helm.
He had two years to run on his contract.
The press conference was called the day after the club captain Ryan Griffen requested a trade to Greater Western Sydney, the team the Bulldogs lost to in the final game of the season.
Gordon indicated that after Griffen's request, McCartney had indicated that he was unsure if he had enough support within the club to continue as senior coach.

The Bulldogs sought further feedback from the playing group (amongst others) on Thursday afternoon, before coming to the conclusion that the task before McCartney was too great and the coach duly fell on his sword.
Gordon said McCartney agreed that staying on would be an "impediment to our continued improvement" and that he was leaving his post effective immediately.
However, despite the apparent player power at play, Gordon said "our players don't run this club, we do."

Wonder how they measure that, surely not ladder positioning.
Do you think they are readings Claw posts and taking his word for it?
-
Have to say McCartney has shown more class an caring for his footy club than the "messiah" at the Bumblings

Does anybody remember mccartney from his days at Richmond? Should we get him back?

Yes I can.
Was there for two years (1998 and 1999) as assistant and development coach and was quite well regarded. Some thought our 2001 finals appearance had a little to do with his input although I wouldn't be very certain about that. Certainly avery knowledgeable guy and is better suited to hands on stuff with players which doesn't suit senior coaches these days.

If they were reading claws posts, none of this would have happened at the doggies ,because for all intents and purposes they were doing everything right ;D

Didn't McCartney coach our twos at one stage?
I remember him addressing the players a few times, always thought he was a bit ordinary.
