Title: Best & worst trades: Richmond (Herald-Sun)

IN the lead-up to the start of AFL trade week, the SuperFooty team takes a look back at your club’s hits and misses during the annual player exchange period. How has your club fared?

RICHMOND

BOOM

The Tigers took advantage of a Fitzroy side nearing the end in 1993 to snare Paul Broderick, Michael Gale and Matthew Dundas in exchange for Richmond captain Jeff Hogg and pick six in the draft. Broderick and Gale were keys to the 1995 finals campaign, while Hogg’s career was ruined by injury. The Lions used pick six on Trent Cummings who was delisted after 27 games. Turn the clock back even further and the Tigers claimed a huge win when they swapped midfielder Bill Barrot to St Kilda for Ian Stewart, who went on to win a second Brownlow in black and yellow.

BUST

Jordan McMahon kicked a goal after the siren against Melbourne to win a game in 2009 but will be remembered for the ill-fated trade with the Bulldogs that landed him at Punt Rd. Richmond gave up pick 19 which the Dogs used on Callan Ward, who would be handy in the Tigers’ midfield right now (McMahon was delisted at the end of 2010). The Dogs lost Ward to GWS but used the compensation pick they got in return to select Jack Macrae so they are clearly still ahead.

They didn't go back very far....didn't we give up a top 10 pick for Craig Biddiscombe?

I reckon the Dees and Blues would have to be the worst recruiters in recent times

Some absolute shockers and we don't even compare

At least McMahon got us downgraded to pick 3 which we used on Martin.

Scully and Trengove were a lock for 1 and 2 that year.

Thanks Sanchez...
