Tigers may target 2015 free agency splash

THE NAB AFL Draft is Richmond's focus this year but a free agency splash by the Tigers could be less than 12 months away.

Speaking on SEN 1116 on Wednesday morning, Tigers general manager of football Dan Richardson said the focus on the draft explains why the club was quiet during the trade period and only added former Geelong midfielder Taylor Hunt as a delisted free agent on the weekend.

"It (the draft) is a clear priority for us," Richardson said.

But the thinking at Punt Road has always been that with stars such as Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield and Greater Western Sydney's Jeremy Cameron out of contract at the end of next season the Tigers want to be in a position to lure these players to their club.

"Like all clubs, we are looking to have salary cap room to do what we need to improve our list," he said.

"It is fair to say we're setting ourselves up from that point of time."

Richardson said the decision to offer Hunt just a one-year contract was determined from a list management perspective rather than concerns over his fitness.

"From that point of view we hope here's here for longer.

"Our medical staff checked him out thoroughly and he is sound. There are no problems with his groin."

Richardson wouldn't estimate how many games Hunt, 24, would play for Richmond next year, but said he offered run and carry to the Tigers as well as an ability to play a shutdown role through the midfield.

"He just has to get into the club, become part of it, put his head down and do the work."

As much as I'd love to, can't see us snagging Cameron....so hoping we're already in Hoskin-Elliot's ear - would prefer both to Clangerfield.

Bit early to be running with this stuff.  I'd be making sure we sign up our own stars first.
Don't want Dangerfield but would take him if he asked nicely.

WHE would be the number one choice.
Dylan Shiel goes ok too. Will get more years out of both.
The only problem is they are not FAs.
Would love Dangerfield if he wanted to come via FA. At the same time we wouldn't lose anything in getting him. :thumbsup

they should just shut up. gee the draft is a big priority just 3 picks at this stage and we did not even try to improve our draft position. how hollow is it when they continually come out with this  sort of rubbish. it is an insult to our intelligence.
the simple truth is they didnt have the guts to move on some more players to improve our draft position and gain more picks.

what is funny is the record in the second and third rounds and these bozoes think they will improve that record while doing little to improve the process. in fact the first round picks are looking more and more shakey every yr that goes by.
it is indeed madness to do the same things over and over and expect different results.

I think the whole club should go on a self imposed media ban until we win three flags in a row.

I got some juicy mail at about 10am today on who we are near securing for 2016. Just a waiting source confirmation. If it's reliable I'll post a new thread coz it would deserve one.

Would explain in part why the club may be feeling so confident

Tigers confident in their list and development

The Richmond Football Club is confident that they have most of the pieces required to take them to the next level.

An extended winning run at the back end of last season has confirmed that the improvement required for success will mostly come from the players they already have, according to general football manager Dan Richardson.

“We know that we need a lot of improvement but we feel that most of that improvement can come from continued development from within.

“We’ve also been really clear on our strategy to invest in this year’s draft and even by bringing Taylor (Hunt) in we’re still keen to do that,” Richardson said on SEN radio.

He also noted that the club is continuously planning for the future and will continue to make decisions that serve the club best in the long term.

“Like all clubs we’re making sure we’ve got the salary cap room to do what we need to do to improve our list in the coming years.

“It’s fair to say that we’re setting ourselves up for the next few years and certainly we’ll be working hard (to attract free agents).”

Hoskin-Elliott looks a star in the making so I'd be happy to get him but Treleor or Cameron would be my 1st choice of the out of contract GWS kids.
Hopefully we've got one of them locked away before the 2015 season starts.

they'll talk it up between now and next june and july ... and then as usual they will come up empty handed. that's how they roll in the Richmond football department. Its all about getting members to renew, when the cash is in the club accounts and they've met their own internal budgets and catered for staff pay increases they will start to roll out the annual excuses about how unlucky they were in targeting players and all the rest of the bulltish they peddle. No one should be getting hopes up for any decent players, they will just bring in another 1 or 2 el cheapo players from the brotherhood bins and claim it as a big success :lol

Nah Ramps, they never admit they got it wrong - as soon as they know it won't  happen they'll start peddling the new visions and dreams for 2016, keep dangling that carrot in front of our faces

so if he hardwick and others are wrong will they have the guts to fall on their swords and quit.

we sit on our hands and do little to improve the list, yes that is the fact no matter how they try to spin it, then they had better be right.
