Following on from the best kick thread, the RFC website also has a poll to find out the best mark of a footy at Tigerland over the past half-century. The official site's top 5 are Hart, Green, Disco, Richo and Jack R.
So who was the best mark you've ever seen at Richmond?
-
Royce, richo then disco.

Can't believe Steven Jurica isn't an option??
-
Big Benny Gale was always a very reliable mark - safe pair of hands behind the play in our D50.
-
Richo is one of the best contested marks in the history of the game let alone Richmond.
-
The way Royce drifted in from the side was almost impossible to spoil.I also agree Richo was a huge mark.
One that's maybe left out was bryan wood..Although not key position he was a very good mark

Agree.

Hart just ahead of Richo, mainly because Hart was a much shorter player who had to rely much more on natural ability and athleticism. And I had #4 on my duffle coat. ;D

I have to go with Royce, I just have to. It was his judgement & reading of the ball in flight that made him so good, his bodywork & positioning was brilliant too. He just made the very hard look so easy. Great hands & a vice-like grip.
Second place is Disco Roach. Some towering screamers that are still on my wall, but also a great pair of hands. Perhaps better hands than Royce when on the lead. Best one on one high marking forward Ive seen.
Special mention to Michael Pickering for great reading of the play & all those defensive marks.
Best flying spoiler:- the Ghost, Jimmy Jess! ;D :gotigers

Haha ! It's weird how bad he was for such a giant ? Must've had the Matty Rogers tiny hands?
In my opinion Richo is the best mark of the footy in the history of the game. Followed by Carey.
Royce and Roach were our next best after Richo but if we were to exclude those 3 obvious choices I'd say the best mark I've seen at Tigerland would be Michael Pickering.

Richo by the length of the Femington straight IMO.
Agreed too, think he is as good as any that have played.
Also thought big David Honeybun had a good set of mitts for a couple of seasons there.

Agreed Smokey, the thing I reckon people forget was that Richo was not a great contests mark when he first joined the AFL.
He was all arms and legs, great athleticism which he relied on heavily to have an impact.
I remember Archer absolutely smashing him to bits by just niggling and smashing into him every time there was a contest.
After the knee, he came back stronger and began to better judge the ball in flight while also having the strength and confidence to hold his position.
I remember a game against the roos late in his career where he took something like 20 grabs and about half of those were contested.
It was the best marking performance (along with Carey in the mud vs power in a final at the G) I have ever seen.
People talk about how much he relied on his natural athletic gift but the development of his contested marking was phenomenal

terry Keays(apologise if spelling wrong) could take a good grab. Michael Pickering, David Honeybun, David Cloke, Paul Bullus and Greg Stafford were all good marks. Richo then Benny Gale in my view.
