AFL draft regrets — which stars could have been at your club?

2004 Lance Franklin (pick 5) v Richard Tambling (pick 4)
2004 Mark LeCras (pick 37) v Luke McGuane (pick 36)
2005 Nathan Jones (pick 12) v Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls (pick 8 )

Richmond fans don’t need reminding they could have had bookends of Lance Franklin and Matthew Pavlich, but chose Richard Tambling and Aaron Fiora instead. Less while known is the decision to recruit battler Luke McGuane with pick 36 in 2004, then watch West Coast call out a blonde forward named Mark LeCras. He would make a handy foil for Jack Riewoldt in the Tigers’ forward line today.

1 Scully (instead of Martin at 3)
2 Trengove (instead of Ben Cunnington at 5)
11 Gysberts (instead of Talia at 13)
18 Tapscott (instead of Fyfe at 20)
34 Gawn (instead of Sam Reid at 38 or Allen Christensen at 40)

Imagine doing those all in retrospect?

You can do this every year for every club just about lol
