Richmond will head to tropical North Queensland in early December, for a week-long pre-season camp in Townsville.
The Tigers will continue their recent tradition of training in hot and humid conditions as they prepare for the upcoming season, with their previous two camps having been held in Cairns.
The camp, which runs from November 30 until December 7, will combine elements of football training, fitness and team bonding.
There will be two open training sessions for Tiger fans to attend, at Tony Ireland Stadium, starting at 9am on Monday, December 1 and Wednesday, December 3.

Great. More rubbish press about irrelevant chit for 95% of members from a community not willing to buy memberships.
Why not have open days in Melbourne? Imagine stuff on training drills times fed to members and fans. 4$ cans. Open the bar.

1 week? I'd leave them up there until the pre-season games.

Being a local Townsville person who is a member - I am looking forward to being able to watch them train and meet afterwards.

Well, if there's one thing I can say that Grigg does well - he certainly grows a decent 'stash. After that...
-
Hi Owl, Rugby still dominates up here in the north. With the Cowboys team in the league competition, AFL will always be a secondary sport. Cairns is much stronger with a greater ex Victorian population up there.

Richmond trains in Townsville to get used to hot conditions
Liam Butterworth
Herald-Sun
December 02, 2014
THE Richmond Tigers are clearly not in Townsville for a tropical holiday.
The Tigers squad was watched by a small but loyal contingent of Australian Rules fans on Monday for the first open training session at Tony Ireland Stadium.
But the squad battled through the heat as the coaches put them through various running and ball skills sessions to continue the long road to the 2015 season.
The bulk of the Tigers started pre-season training three weeks ago, joined by the senior playing group a week later.
But Monday was the first time draftees Corey Ellis, Connor Menadue, Nathan Drummond, Daniel Butler and Reece McKenzie got to train with the squad after being picked up last Thursday.
The Tigers went to Cairns for a pre-season camp two years ago and defender Dylan Grimes said the trip to Townsville, and the training in the heat, would prove invaluable at key times of next season.
“I think the biggest focus is around team-building and having the team together,” Grimes said.
“Having said that there’s some great physical gains to be made up in conditions like this.
“We’ve had issues in the past particularly when we’ve played Gold Coast, in Alice Springs and up in Cairns.
“There’s a bit of acclimatisation and getting used to the heat.
“It’s a long pre-season and there’s plenty more of this to come.
“When we played in the final it was pretty hot as well, so getting used to these conditions is pretty important to us.”
The Tigers won their last nine games straight to sneak into the top-eight and play finals footy for the second year running, but are not afraid of aiming higher next year.
“We know that we are a good team, it’s just a matter of playing the way we play,” Grimes said.
“Early in the season we had issues for a bunch of different reasons but there’s now quite a lot of clarity about what we have to do and a real confidence there to take it from round one and run with that.
“We’re excited.”
The Tigers will hold another open training session tomorrow, but what exactly is in store for the rest of the week remains a mystery to the players.
“We know it’s going to be pretty tough but we don’t know what’s in store,” Grimes said.
“It’s going to be blood, sweat and tears, I think.”

Tigers' trip to the tropics builds the yellow and black bonds
Jennifer Phelan
afl.com.au
December 11, 2014
RICHMOND'S decision to revive the pre-season training camp concept has paid off, according Bachar Houli, after a successful team-building experience in Townsville.
The Tigers last went on a training camp two years ago when they travelled to Cairns in far north Queensland.
They didn't go away last year, opting instead to train at Punt Road, with the pre-Christmas phase focusing on fitness, conditioning and individual skills.
After returning from this month's week-long trip to Townsville that included every player on the list, Houli said the experience had drawn the players closer together.
"When a group goes away on a camp, you jell better and you feel better about yourselves and as a collective, as a team," Houli told AFL.com.au.
"I think they're very beneficial. You get away from the club, and even though we were only back for a week before, the training, the building element of things is very, very beneficial moving forward.
"I think the training camp does add a lot to a pre-season. It just breaks it up a bit so you're not stuck between four walls for three or four months."
The camp threw up a number of challenges for the players and the club's recent draftees, who were included in most of the program.
The new rookies, who only became Tigers last Wednesday in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft, flew up for the final three days.
Houli said the first three days involved the usual type of pre-season drills; skills, running, weights and off-legs circuits.
Then, they were split into six teams for an 'Amazing Race' component of the camp that rounded out the program.
Teams had to buy "mascot" figurines, which travelled with them throughout the contest, and deal with trading out one member of their group before it started.
On the first day, the players ran more than 22km just travelling between each checkpoint around Townsville over a 12-hour period.
Activities that broke up the cardiovascular work included abseiling off Castle Hill, making a bike for one team member and then going on a long, uphill ride, and creating rafts for water challenges.
The race culminated with a return trip by kayak to Magnetic Island – a one-way journey of about 8km, before a final hike up a track that stretched more than 6km.
Houli, who was in the team that placed second after a "communication issue" saw them miss the ferry back to Magnetic Island for the final stage, said the experience had built and solidified the bonds between teammates.
"It was great to see that the boys didn't give one inch," he said.
"The great thing about the draftees and rookies was they were so resilient, they didn't complain and they wanted to continue to do everything at the best level.
"That's the attitude and the competitiveness we've trying to create in our club.
"It's not about the 22-25 players that play on a regular basis; it's about those young kids, the guys who aren't getting regular games to keep putting pressure on the senior blokes so we have more depth and have warriors who can step up when someone goes down.
"That's the great thing about camps, not only are you benefiting from the training, you're building relationships with guys that you don't know and guys that you are still getting to know.
"It was just a great team effort and I'm sure we built some great relationships with each other. I think it was very, very beneficial."
