THE AMOUNT of players with veteran status has blown out ahead of the 2015 season, with Fremantle benefiting most from the list provision.
There are 52 players listed as veterans for the 2015 season (up from 38 in 2014) with the Dockers boasting a League-high seven.
All players who have completed 10 seasons with their club are eligible to be placed on the veterans list, and there is no age requirement for qualification.
Clubs are then able to pay a fixed amount per veteran – $118,380 in 2014 – outside the salary cap.
Geelong has listed six veterans for 2015, while North Melbourne has five.
St Kilda has chosen not to list any of its eligible veterans, including captain Nick Riewoldt, on the veterans list as its total player payments do not require it. Clubs are required to pay at least 95 per cent of the salary cap.

Lids a veteran??? Sheesh now I know I'm getting old.
-
27 and a haf year old
Ducking champion
-
Its also a preview of the retirement list at the end of 2015. With Lids only 27 he is good to go for a few more years. Chaplin, Foley & Newman could all retire now & it wouldn't ruffle our hair too much. :thumbsup
Then check out Freo - YIKES! RIP the Rossy Lyon era ...
Hawthorn wont be quite the same side without Hodge, Lewis & Mitchell - Roughy will be ok for a few more (see Lids), but Burgoyne & Gibson are both 30-31 now & aren't on the list because they were recruits.
Norf will have issues, same with Geelong ... Swans too, Buddy & Tippett don't show on the list either.
The football wheel turns around quickly, doesn't it make you glad that we just drafted a heap of kids? The top 4 opens right up after 2015 ... :lol :cheers

Just in time for Gold Coast and GWS to share the next 10 flags.

Yeah and it also shows that he was one of our greats hopes to resurrect the club.....wow, have we wasted time or what??
:huh

Its not too late
Takes more than one to tango

Poor lids being mentioned in the same breath as those other 2 hacks
They shouldn't be on any list, veterans or otherwise

Angus in reality our list still isn't that great, Foley has played well enough since he has been back to be on our list IMO and Newy hopefully is on the list as a leader which we genuinely lack and hopefully as depth. If Hardwick plays blokes on merrit than it's the kids chance to push for both these spots. I'm a massive believer a kid has to earn his spot, not just get a game because he is young and someone else is old.
Just my opinion but I'm happy for these kids to earn a spot in our team just like Miles did this year. That's why I'd like to see Matty Dea get a real good run at it next year. He has played very well at reserve level for a while now.

Let's hope we aren't saying the same about Cotch in a few years..And I wasn't blaming Lids.

I get the feeling the 'window' closes when lids hangs up the boots

Scuse my French but you are a disrespectful idiot.

Got to be ruthless if we are to ever win a flag
Personally I like new and Foley. But blowing smoke up their ass isnt getting us any primership points

No doubt the list manager does.
That doesn't mean supporters need to go calling players names.
I'm well aware that Newman and Foley are under heaps of pressure to hold their spots in the 22 but abuse is completely unnecessary and pretty ugly.
-
But the list manager is seemingly not.
I wwon't be hailing grigg, Chaplin and friends champions personality, regardless of what is good form and what is not
-
But the list manager is seemingly not.
Then shoot blame and anger at the list manager if players aren't cutting it.
-
That's a fair point.
Should I write a letter my local member?
What avenue would you advise one takes?
