Title: Holiday Destination
Post by: Francois Jackson on April 25, 2015, 10:10:53 AM
The RFC are not going to provide much hot so look at a world map and plan your next holiday.

I'm thinking Cuba Feb/March next year before the illumanati take control of it.

Anyone been? Africa is also on my to do list but not with kids. Japan also but once kids are old enough to understand and remember.

Any other places around the world you lot would recommend.

Please share.

Depends what you're into I guess. New York over xmas/Nye is the top of my list. Would love to experience the holidays over there as well as being able to catch a nfl, hockey and bball game at the same time. We just about had this one booked in but we're too close to FINALLY getting into our own home so that one is on hold.

Rome is high on my list. But my missus is from there (well, actually from Sicily in a village not far from Palermo)  and has been there before so not fair to take her back as our first trip. Tokyo is on our radar of recent times too.

Can't beat Paris, the city of lights.

Rome is high on my list.
Rome is awesome. Thousands of years of history in the one city and all of it within walking distance. Italy full stop is the great place to travel around.

Berlin is a city that exceeded expectations when I went there.

i have to agree with you MT on Berlin.

one word - sensational. a great city for the single types.

65, i would have to say Paris is also up there with my favorites. Having a bottle of red each night under the lights with no drunks in sight was a great memory i have of my time there

I need to see the rest of France to truly appreciate it.

Anyone  been to Africa? Its a shame the whole place is so dangerous as it would have so much to offer for tourists.

I spent 4 yrs in the Philippines.

Amazing place and very safe (avoid Mindanao).

Boracay, Amanpulo (If budget allows), Cebu and plenty of other options. Huge variety in the different regions.

New York for Christmas and new years booked  :cheers

Arriving 22nd and leaving the 5th but unfortunately can't fit a hockey game in  :banghead Rangers are away most of it and the Islanders and Devils are playing the days we're seeing Knicks v Pistons (yyyeeeaaahhhh!) and Pats v Jets.

Hopefully don't get shafted by Stubhub.

Nice dwaino first time? You will love it.  I have been quite a few times although never for NYE

If you need a heads up on places to eat, go etc PM me, NYC has more to offer than TGI fridays.

Leaving where to go for stuff like Christmas and NYE dinners to the missus. Trying to get a Hudson River cruise for NYE at the moment. Staying around Madison Square Garden, East 31st St so just below the guts of midtown and not far from some of the better foodie areas. Staying for 14 nights so should be able to get a fair bit in even though I'm content with just a couple sports games and the museum. Just happy to get away from the chaos of Christmas at home with my own folks and the in laws.

so they all tell me WP. I have never head that out way for longer than a day trip but in the last 2 years its grown and grown, and some of my good friends actually prefer to stay there.

Will be definitely checking out both sides, Brooklyn and Jersey. We're planning enough to do over 14 days but leaving a few days spare to decide on after we have been there a bit. Whether that's a day trip across Long Island or a whirlwind early depart/late return on the Amtrack to DC.

I stuffed up booking games. I only checked that there was all of hockey, football and basketball in town on our stay. The Rangers were out of town so I booked the jets v pats when I really should have picked Phili v Giants as the othe game clashes with the Islanders game in Brooklyn. Oh well, always next time. The Devils I think are playing in Jersey the night we arrive but I can't guarantee I'll be in any state to do anything after such a long travel. If I was confident enough in spontaneous travel then I'd head to Pittsburgh during the trip to catch Red Wings v Pens.

As for foods we aren't staying far from Greenwich, Soho and Chelsea and stuff. We've started some research on places we'd like to go, so that with the 2cents from every friend and family who has been there or not we should have a massive list by the time we get there.

anyone one here driven through Europe? Any tips? Thinking of hiring a campervan and driving from  Germany through Switzerland into Italy.

Distance doesn't seem very far just seems like a waste to fly all the time. Wouldn't have a clue about their roads though, hence the trepidation.

I did Southern Italy and a lot of France.

We actually used trains for a lot of it and really enjoyed it.

hahaha amsterdam. Never interested me that place but i would like to check it out to cross it off. Apparently its a nice looking city. :lol

Cheers Damo to be honest i think we will probably do this option at some point, most probably out of Berlin into Prague. Any train ride over 10 hrs is asking for trouble with kids.

Honestly it is. Would recommend checking it out if you can fit it in, even if it is for a day. I didn't do it driving (no, not for that reason ;D) so I don't know what it'd be like

Throughly recommend doing Europe by train.

Spectacular especially through the Austrian alps

I did all my travel during the day just take in the stunning views.

FWIW did France, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands via EuroRail as it was called in the day (still is I think) was brilliant

And agree with YR, Amsterdam is interesting place on many levels

Thats great advice cheers guys.

Train tickets seem expensive and for 4 might total 400 euros just to get from berlz to say amsterdam. You pay for the view i guess.

I have only planned for Zurich and Leicenstein WP in that region any other places of interest close by worth seeing. Done Vienna and   loved it. Best Schnitzel i've ever had.

White Christmas likely Dwainski?

Not likely at all Dookster. Just so happens that the time we wished to visit was the same time as some stuff, once in only over a hundred years, stuff weather event. Combination of El Niņo in the Pacific and low pressure polar vortex in the Arctic has meant that the cold jet stream that normally drops down over the USA is stuck over Canada giving this joint Melbourne like weather of 5-15C and rain. Apparently there was some snow up state on the weekend and the city was about -1 - 7 C but it has warmed up again. While disappointed we'll probably miss the white stuff at least it won't be too cold to go out and do stuff at night.

They're taking no risks at Time Square. Went there last night and there were coppers dressed in full military riot gear with automatic rifles and slug belts.

Times Square for NYE was original plan when we first planned the holiday but then learned they lock you in to the area for about 6 hours and you can't move. So we instead booked a restaurant not far away and will head to Times Square after the ball drop. With the crap going on around the world and what happened in Paris probably safer to stay away from there anyway.

If it's any consolation we were in Fiji 3 weeks ago and the usual wet season starting in July/Aug had yielded ZERO rain til now, and still nothing.

Pacific weather is arse about and perhaps at a tipping point it seems. We'll see.

No full camo though from the local polizia

In Mexico at the minute with the family. Great place to spend a few weeks. Excellent food/people and no drunken yobbos in sight. Today a 70 yr old Mexican who spoke little English, offered then poured me a few vodkas while my kids played with his granddaughter.

Cuba tomorrow which is why we are doing this trip. Very excited,  as its been a place I have wanted to visit for many years.   Stones are playing by luck in a free concert too, so might put the kids down and head over.

Just landed in Bali yesterday for my brothers wedding on the 2nd.

Was at a wedding here last Aug and didn't think I'd enjoy the place much so only came for three nights. Learned my lesson and I'm here for three weeks this time 😃

Just arrived into LA after the long trip back from Cuba via Cancun.

Awesome destination if you ever get a chance to go before bents and alberts mates destroy the place. :cheers

Stayed in a CASA(Havana) where we had the experience of the owner cooking for us. Awesome city with a lot of history and very safe unlike Melbourne these days.

People are fantastic too even though they have little going for them in terms of freedom(wages) Internet is only a recent thing there for the cubans.

We then spent a week in Varadero which was a beach experience and not CUBA at all. Nonetheless it was hands down the best beach ive ever seen. Kids loved it.

I couldnt speak highly enough of the place, and if you can forget about the long travelling to actually get there its worth a visit.
