Stafford to stay Tiger
30 August 2005
Herald Sun

RICHMOND is set to keep much of its list intact, meaning ruckman Greg Stafford appears to have found a fifth season at Tigerland.
Although trade talk is likely to centre on running midfielder Greg Tivendale and key forward Shane Morrison, the Tigers won't slash their list despite finishing 12th.
Up to 17 players have been delisted or traded from the Tigers in the past two years.
With former skipper Wayne Campbell and backman Mark Graham retiring, the only other Tiger expected to come under scrutiny is Morrison.
Tigers football director Greg miller refused to discuss Morrison's future yesterday.
Coach Terry Wallace and Miller will meet the playing group individually this week. Miller confirmed Stafford, who was tipped to retire or be delisted, was likely to continue.
"Indications are he'll probably play on," Miller said.
He said the club needed another season to further consolidate financially, and another season of football in their youngsters before the playing list would be seriously assessed.
"We've got a very young list. We have 20 guys under the age of 22 and 15 of those are teenagers," Miller said.

A worrying sign.

A worrying sign.
WHY DOES HUILTON GET KNOCKED SO MUCH, HE HAS BEEN VALUBALE TO US THIS YR, IS STILL YOUNG, HAS EXPERIENCE AND KING king size balls, sorry about the caps!
hilton will be good 4 us, he is a handy utility player and very versitile and aggressive, he is safe imo
-
1. He'll be 27 come the start of next season.
2. He has a long injury history.
3. We have a lot of kids that could/would play the same position as him.
4. He is one of the last relics of a bygone era!

IMO Hilton will stay on for another year while the younger ones come on and he will slowly be relegated to Coburg as the year progresses and next year it will be ByBy

People expect more from a first round pick which is what we gave up for him especially after 9 years in the system.
Seems we're going to use next year's strong draft as our opportunity for one final cleanout... Staff, Hilton, etc....

wouldn't get a gig coaching the Coff Harbour under 12's then Mopsy :lol ;D

2. He has a long injury history.
What a lot of people forget is that those injuries were in the field of play for Richmond the one where he put his body in front of a leading Neitz was simply inspirational.
It's not like Hilton has consistently dodgy hammies or anything like that.
-
Dallas i understand that, and believe me Rory got credit from me when the Neitz thing happened, but im just stating a fact.
If his knee goes again his career is over no matter what anyway, and we might be stuck with him on the list again due to that "can't delist someone whos got a long-term injury" clause!

exactly, and for all u knockers, remember his form b4 that big injury!!!! he was playing fantastic footy and is showing signs again. tw keeps saying we lack players in that age group, well he is one of them and poos on gys like chaffey and tivenale and as i have said b4 he has king size balls!!! no fear and is a must 4 our team! he is our only versitile utility player of his size

Rory was virtually B.O.G. in that Melbourne game when he did his shoulder but he was out of form prior to it. That's why he got dropped but luckily he got a reprieve at the last minute when someone pulled out at the last minute.
-
Yeah, being dropped and getting a last minute recall seemed to be the kick up the bum he needed. He was back to his 2001 sensational form in that game until he was cleaned up. The few weeks prior he had been very ordinary.
Back to the future, I think he's shown enough this year to get a one year contract.
-
Rory has ability, which he’s fleetingly shown whenever he’s felt like it but, I’d like to know where his motivation is and why he needs a kick up the backside at regular intervals? 8 years in the AFL system and he’s still gotta make his mark. Move on, he’s too much like hard work and why work that hard when there are some great young players, with fantastic attitudes, just waiting to get at chance.
-
Rory Hilton doesnt deserve another contract.
Sure he was ok this season, but he wasnt fantastic and we could easily replace him with one of our young players and we wouldnt even notice he is gone.
I think you will find that he WILL get the flick.
Sure he has had injuries, but he has had many chances to prove himself
