AFL draft: Which clubs found gold with late picks in 2010-2014 drafts?

IT WAS the wrong time to be rebuilding.
As Melbourne, Richmond, Essendon and North Melbourne fell to the bottom of the ladder in 2010-12, expansion clubs Gold Coast and GWS pocketed most of the first-round picks.
The challenge for recruiters was set: find the gems late in the draft, and in the rookie draft.
Some clubs rose to that challenge, others not so much.
Almost the entire Collingwood backline has been sourced via the rookie draft or picks beyond the fourth round — Tom Langdon, Jack Frost, Marley Williams, Adam Oxley, Paul Seedsman and Jackson Ramsay were all overlooked by every other club (several times). Magpies recruiting chief Derek Hine, take a bow.
The Pies have yet another rookie draft gem in their line-up after receiving Jack Crisp in a trade from Brisbane, who picked him up in 2012.

Their opponent this weekend, Richmond, didn’t have the same success.
While the Pies were nailing almost every pick and other clubs found the likes of Luke Parker (pick 40), Cam Ellis-Yolmen (pick 64), Luke Dahlhaus and Mark Blicavs (rookies), Richmond selected Brad Helbig, Todd Banfield, Matt Arnot and Matt McDonough.
There is still time for some of those players to make their mark at AFL level, but the clock is ticking.
The Tigers didn’t help their cause by trading away some late picks and using others on mature-age recruits like Nathan Gordon and Sam Lloyd, although other teams have done the same thing and come up trumps (Hawthorn is pretty happy with Paul Puopolo and to be fair the Tigers struck gold with Anthony Miles).
Kamdyn McIntosh (pick 31, 2012) is starting to make his mark and Liam McBean, taken two selections after McIntosh, might make a long-awaited AFL debut this weekend.
If he does, he will lock horns with Frost, Langdon and Co. Who will come out on top? We might not know the full answer for a few years, but here’s our early report card.

Absolutely damning.
This is what peees me off.
>:(
Us member$ are on board to the hilt and this is the sort of poo that is dished up by recruiting?
It's a fail. A massive, generational fail. Geez Geez
-
I looked at other clubs and then I looked that we only have Miles. Club is stuffed
-
A lot of the names on that list are just as unproven as any of our players. Just another Richmond bashing exercise from the HUN.
-
Do you think this maybe because coaching staff are one coaching them to become good coaches and two because the club is actually giving them a go in the big league?
-
There are a lot of poo names on that list, and they leave out McIntosh from our list.
Like Magic said, Richmond bashing again.
-
They absolutely love building us up just so they can pile it on when we don't live up to their expectations
Favourite past time number one and sucks the fans in all the time

McIntosh has played 1 good game. Not sure he should be on that list yet.
How does FJ still have a job?
Do we not look at previous drafts beyond the first round? Nobody could justify such a hideous record.
And we still scratch our heads to why we are where we are.
Hartley wouldn't have to go out and try and find player if FJ did his job.

exactly.
the two essendon ones are rubbish....as are a few others from other teams...
leaving out McIntosh.
And they somehow put Tom Liberatore on the list? (I know he's father-son, but would have gone first round anyway).....
these "journalists" simply have no brains

Look at them swarm because you rate our list a little bitter than one of the other worst lists in the game :lol

Not trying to be a smartarse but Baguley was named second best for Essendon last night and Ambrose kicked 2 goals, took 4 marks and had 6 tackles. Both played well and both are good players, putrid and ordinary they are not. :thumbsup

apparently there is a piece of our recruiting post pick 20 in this week inside footy

Had a quick browse at it this morning while having breakfast. Thing that really caught my eye was Wallace admitting that during his time at the Club they got a lot wrong at the draft table. Also, pointed out they haven't done much better in Dimma time. Depth remains an Achilles heal
Article is about drafting 2006-2014
Will read properly over the weekend

I'd suggest we ve done a heck of a lot better for one we havent stuffed up r1 selections ea year :shh

Bojo with the empty burly bucket.....
-
The apologists are having a field day with this article. :lol
I look at it this way.....
This regime has had 5 years to build the club & we are still in no mans land. Still struggling to make finals, still struggling to get the most out of 1st round prime picks in Vickery & Conca whilst Lennon has a whole lot of these ?????? coupled with this :pray.
Our recruiting: I find it unbelievable that anyone would give it above a poor rating in this 5 year period.
Our development: I would be inclined to give this department a massive fail in this 5 year period.
-
I'm sure there's a rational explanation for this little blip

It's clear, FJ and Dimma need to go.
They've had a to and they've failed. Next up to the plate.
