Where's Castanza?
Out for a couple with an ankle , not far off a debut just quietly :shh
-
Not a great start :P. Took us 5 mins to get a inside 50 and we're getting beaten in the centre clearances.
Rich 1.0-6
Ess 3.1-19
Lloyd has the goal. Gordon missed everything with his shot from 30 out.
-
Some really poor efforts so far. Half-hearted attacks on the ball, fumbling and poor manning up in defence.

Lennons looked good

Two of our VFL-listed talls made two dumb errors on the wing and allowed a late Essendon goal against the run of play.

Umps hand the Bombers the first of the 3rd qtr.

Good chain of hands opens up the play. Open goal and Arnot misses.
Wall then has a snap from 30m around the body but it doesn't make the distance and marks by a Bomber defender.

11 mins Q3
-
Astbury has hamstring tightness. Gone for the day.
Hampson playing on with strapping around his right knee.
-
Playing with a shorter forward line but we've bombing it long to where the Bomber defenders are :facepalm.
-
Our VFL-listed players have been shocking today.
-
Lloyd quick snap misses.
45 - 69

We'll have the breeze in the last.
-
We give up a soft coast-to-coast goal to the Bombers.
Lloyd then ignores the man over the top and misses an open goal :scream.

Richmond 1.3 6.6 6.10-46
Essendon 6.2 9.4 11.9-75

-
Same number of inside 50s but disposal efficiency has been poor.
-
Thanks OE.
-
Lucky bounce and Cachia on the run gets the first of the last qtr.
Rich 52
Ess 76
-
They continually waltz out of our F50 and then lock it in theirs. Although a lucky bounce gave us a second chance to score a goal
-
We get the clearance and kick it long inside 50. Gordon gathers and does a blind up and under. Essendon clear and run it up the other end uncontested for goal. The story of the match.
52 - 82
-
Our VFL-listed players have been shocking today.
They always are - really do need to upgrade on most of them asap.
-
We're playing two leading forwards (one tall, one midsized) and they continually run into the same space and spoil each other :facepalm.
-
Dumb play once again cost us a chance of a goal and then gifts the Bombers another goal. Game over.
52 - 90
-
A Tiger tall forward finally takes a mark inside 50. Elton goal.

God these VFL players are arse

Clarke needs to be on notice, how the hell he turns in those kinda of results ea week with what he has to work with is beyond me :banghead

Final Score

Essendon 6.2 9.4 11.9 15.13-103
Goals: Elton 2, Lloyd, McDonough, Gordon, Lennon, Cachia, Mellington
Move along. Nothing to see here.
Started off lethargically and, aside from a late 2nd qtr burst, we just dished up a terrible, dumb and undisciplined display all around. Add a dysfunctional forward line that offered nothing offensively from our talls and defensively leaked like a sieve and allowed easy rebounding Bomber goals.

Why was Elton playing forward? These kids can't develop if they cannot settle into a position.
-
Reckon McKenzie definitely has something special about him but don't reckon we'll be seeing for at least a year or two yet. Still miles away from VFL level, let alone AFL level.
-

It's just not good enough in my book
-

Neither can the players in the firsts..
-
Why was Elton playing forward? These kids can't develop if they cannot settle into a position.
Because the duds kept bombing it in and we needed a tall forward since there was no McBean. Funnily enough Elton was one of the better players once moved forward

What position was he playing, didn't kick a goal
-
That's good question...pretty sure he was supposed to be FF but looked more like he was in no man's land most of the day, not sure he played the whole game either. Took a nice mark in the second but missed the shot.....set up another for Gordon IIRC.

VFL Tigers fall to Essendon
By Catherine Durkin
May 31, 2015
VFL coach Tim Clarke has identified his team’s slow start as a key reason for the side’s 44-point loss to Essendon on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers were outscored six goals to one in the opening quarter, and struggled to reel in the deficit, despite improvement in the second term.
Richmond’s inability to control the ball inside forward 50 proved costly, and quashed the Tigers’ chances of a comeback.
“We couldn’t keep the ball inside our forward 50. Even though it felt like they were dominating we still had the same amount of inside 50s,” Clarke said after the match.
“They (Essendon) were just able to use the ball better and it really hurt us on the counter attack.”
Clarke also pinpointed the midfield as a main area where Richmond struggled to gain any ascendancy early on.
“Essendon got the ball out of the middle and our midfield really struggled to get going, which is unlike the players we had in there. So it was disappointing from that end that they got such a good start,” he said.
“We thought our strength would have been our midfield so we are really disappointed with that.”
Matt Arnot was the most influential player around the contest, gathering 22 touches, six clearances and six tackles.
Nick Wynne also put in a solid performance. He collected 26 possessions and took several strong contested marks at crucial moments.
After Dave Astbury was taken off with hamstring soreness, Todd Elton was entrusted with a position up forward. He managed two goals and took several strong marks.
Nathan Gordon (19 disposals) and Sam Lloyd (14 disposals) both looked lively in front of goal, having several scoring opportunities. But the duo only managed one goal each for their efforts.
Next week, the Tigers will venture out to Avalon to take on Werribee, who currently sit atop the VFL ladder.

'Highlights' of the VFL team's loss to Essendon ...

They had to show a highlight of a non-tiger listed player things were that bad :lol

Richmond’s VFL coach Tim Clarke's summary of the AFL-listed players:
Matt Arnot
22 disposals, six clearances, six tackles
Had a mixed game. Was competitive in patches, picked up more than 20 disposals, and was good inside with his clearance work and tackling. But he fumbled a bit with the ball and his kicks didn’t always hit the targets. Overall, we expect a better game from him this week.
Jayden Short
20 disposals, 10 contested possessions, three clearances
Was impressive in his high-forward role. Accumulated 20 touches, hit the scoreboard twice, and had another two shots for goal. Is really starting to hit his straps as a small forward, and we are excited about what he’s going to be bringing to the team over the next few weeks.
Nathan Gordon
19 disposals, one goal
Played his best game for three or four weeks. His critical contest stuff was very good. He kicked only one goal, but had a few other opportunities. The other area of improvement we need to see from him now, is his tackle pressure and heat around the ball. When that happens, I think we will see him pushing hard for a return to the senior side.
Matt Dea
16 disposals, five marksAgain was very efficient defensively, chopping off a lot of Essendon’s attacks. He didn’t get as much of the ball, but the defensive role he played for the team was terrific, and his critical contest work was AFL standard.
Ben Lennon
16 disposals, one goal
Had a fairly good game, but is still not making the most of his opportunities. As a forward, we need him marking the ball more and giving himself greater opportunity to kick goals. We need him competing more heavily around the ball, too. He should be getting more clearance work for the quality of player that he is. We expect him to take his game up a level next match.
Matt McDonough
16 disposals, three clearances, one goal
Played midfield in the first half, and then a little bit down back, before being ‘subbed’ at three-quarter time to be prepared for the AFL as a carry-over player. Was probably a little down on his customary high standard clearance work and competitive work inside. But we expect his form to pick up this week.
Sam Lloyd
14 disposals, one goal
Played a solid game up forward, but didn’t impact the scoreboard enough, finishing with just one goal, two behinds. It’s been a theme over the past few weeks that he hasn’t taken his opportunities. Really important this week that he works on his goalkicking and his opportunities in the forward-50 area, to make sure the touches he has really impact the scoreboard.
Todd Elton
Eight disposals, two goals
Played back for the first quarter. Fumbled a bit early, which resulted in a couple of goals for the opposition. Was moved forward after that, due to Dave Astbury getting injured, and provided us with a good target. Had four shots for goal, managing to kick two. We expect him to finish better than that, but we were really excited to see him go forward and have an impact.
Reece McKenzie
Seven disposals, six marks
Did some really good things throughout the match. Took half a dozen marks, with two or three of them being contested. Is starting to show traits that he’s going to be a real player for us. Just need him to have more involvement and put himself in positions where he can get the ball kicked to him. Hopefully, he can also hit the scoreboard in the next couple of weeks.
Shaun Hampson
Four disposals, 38 hit-outs
Battled on well after copping a knock on his knee in the first quarter. Again was very good with his hit-outs, but we expect him to have more involvement around the ground. He’s getting to contests, but just needs to win more of them to really push hard for senior selection.

Jayden Short from what I have seen pre season and what I am reading appears to be worth a try in the AFL, if we are not bringing small forwards to the club then we need to be developing our own and he seems to have what it takes. Him and Butler when fit seem to be our only in-house options at the moment.
-
Hampson - four disposals
