Title: Changes for the Weagles game?

The Barometer - Round 11 (BYE for us)
Herald-Sun
June 8, 2015

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK:
Corey Ellis was subbed off but played his best game of the season, showcasing the foot skills that made him a first-round draft pick. His replacement Connor Menadue (0 disposals) might need a week in the VFL to get his hands on the footy.

ON THE CUSP: Chris Newman’s successful return from injury was the best news out of a 96-point VFL loss. Sam Lloyd kicked three goals and Nathan Gordon and Matt McDonough were OK. Of the long injury list, only Kane Lambert is looking at a return in the next month.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: Damien Hardwick might wish he could skip the bye to keep the Tigers’ momentum going after arguably the club’s best home-and-away win in a decade. The road ahead isn’t much easier, with assignments against West Coast (home) and Sydney (away) after the week off. Then again based on results so far — and with stars all firing and second-tier players like Nick Vlastuin, Jake Batchelor and Shaun Grigg in career-best form — Richmond is probably happy to take on the big boys.

Menadue will come under a bit of pressure to hold his spot and do some work at vfl. I'd love for Lennon or McDonough to be flying , my guess is newy comes in

Seriously, what dynamic da newsman bring to the team.?
He's too old, too slow, has always been a tempo killer, is a liability when he, kicks in.......there's so many things that they simply don't need.
He needs to be told..

No change. To bring in Newman would be a backward step.

Yes he is
We will agree to disagree. He is our best player in the back six when the ball is in his hands and easily our toughest defender.  Considering he is up against Rance, that makes him first tier in my eyes.

You forgot to add IMHO.

IMO Newman is hopeless and has no dynamic. He has no future playing AFL footy, no leadership skills and is a lisy clogger. The whole team plays worse when he is in it as they know he does not deserve to be in.

Don't agree with it happening but reckon the above is what is likely to happen

Having watched the last 4 weeks from the sidelines it has no doubt renewed Newman's resolve to get back on the field. If anything it should have had the reverse effect if he was thinking long term and in the best interests of the team but i think he wants to go out with a finals win and is hoping to be part of it. Unfortunately if anything he becomes our weak link and following his anticipated inclusion and we do lose against WC then i am sure both on this forum and in the media his name will come up for further discussion. I would love to be proven wrong and he comes into the team and really has some impact but i just cant see that happening to be honest (didn't happen before he was injured). If he does have to come in then maybe worth trying him in the forward 50, not a bad kick for goal and can take a good mark.

Why change a winning formula?????? :pray

Agreed why change a winning formula. The kids have added a new dimension to the team but it has also made selection more competitive. I know Menadue was sub and didn't touch it after he came on but he still deserves to play ahead of Newman IMHO as kids like him are our future and its not what they do or don't do right now but cementing game time for these kids for the future.

Same applies to a kid like Lennon, McBean, McDonough when they come in also.
What does Newman offer right now? Not much sadly. Alot less than the kids now and in the future.

Newman is your classic case of depth player at most right now and until his probable retirement at the end of the year. Give him a sendoff game v Gold Coast at the G in Round 20 and let the cubs roam on the G and watch them develop into a fighting fury.

No changes for me. Same 22. :thumbsup

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK:
Connor Menadue seems the obvious casualty after failing to trouble the stats men in Perth last week. After a bye the rest of the team that brought down Fremantle is rested and raring to go.

ON THE CUSP: Richmond’s VFL team had the bye at the weekend so there was no more chance for fringe players like Nathan Gordon, Matt Dea, Sam Lloyd and Matt Arnot to push their case but they are there if needed. The most intense discussion at match committee this week will surround Chris Newman, who got through his comeback game from injury last weekend.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: Newman for Menadue is the likely change as the Tigers try to keep their winning streak (which now stands at four) going. That won’t be easy against the Eagles on Friday night, but at least the game is at the MCG, a ground the Eagles haven’t visited since losing to Collingwood there in Round 10 last year. The three-talls forward set-up can stretch an undermanned West Coast backline and the battle between warhorse Ivan Maric and spring-heeled Nic Naitanui will be massive.

From Jon Ralph in the Herald-Sun ...

Richmond football manager Dan Richardson forecasts a settled team given no injuries against Fremantle.

“We have got match committee tomorrow, but we wouldn’t expect too many changes,’’ he said.

“Newman needs a bit more continuity so he needs another game or two under his belt.

“We had a few days to freshen up and hopefully that helps but as bland as it sounds our preparation will be as consistent as possible.

“Hopefully it turns out another consistent performance on game day.”

Conca is still listed as more than a month away, with Nathan Foley out indefinitely with knee issues.

Kane Lambert (shoulder) and David Astbury (hamstring) are close to a return through the VFL.

In the Mix: Round 12

RICHMOND

After a week off to recover from their brilliant win against Fremantle, the Tigers are unlikely to make more than one change. With a settled senior line-up in top form, Richmond's VFL players will have to wait for opportunities.

Half-forward Nathan Gordon was an emergency for the Tigers' last match and he was among the VFL team's best in round eight, so he is presumably next in line.

Matt McDonough and Matt Arnot are also pushing hard after strong recent performances.

In the forward line, Sam Lloyd and Liam McBean are available but unlikely to fit in right now.

Veteran Chris Newman has recovered from a recent groin injury and could also be considered this week.

We all know how it'll go down.

Newman in

Menadue/Ellis out with a fake injury to appease the masses.

IMO, there will be no changes aside from perhaps a swap of the sub with Menadue getting a full game and Corey moved to sub. Hard to bring anyone up when the VFL side didn't play last weekend either and copped a 96 hiding the week before while Newy has only played a half of VFL footy.

Probably just guessing but the Footy Show tonight have Dea, Elton, Gordon and McBean added to the squad.

No Newy this week. He'll play another game in the twos.

Herald-Sun implying Gordon could replace a tall forward if it's wet tomorrow night.

Don't mind replacing a tall with a smaller, quicker player if it's wet but Gordon? Gee wiz
