* Having six Richmond debutants in the AFL side has been fantastic. Because of some of the injuries to our depth players on our list, those guys have gone up and made debuts earlier than we may have thought. They’re really contributing well. They’re great to work with – all of our first-year players are fantastic with their attitude. They turn up, they absorb all of the information we give them, they train really hard and you’re starting to see the benefits of those players when they make the transition into AFL. When I looked at the season before it started, we had a lot of excitement that was going to be coming through the VFL list. I think it’s been a great environment for the AFL players, when they’ve had to come and prepare themselves to play AFL footy. I think we’ve ticked that box with what we need to do with our VFL team.
* Our performances over the last three weeks haven’t been up to standard. We were competitive, even though we lost a couple of games in the first five rounds. To play the type of footy we have in the last three weeks is disappointing. It’s un-Richmond like. Hopefully after the bye our boys can come out and play some good football, for not only the footy club but also to put pressure on the AFL players.

Good to see Lambert back.
What's happening with Soldo? Does anybody have any reports on how he's progressing?
Not sure how he's going but I'm pretty sure he's been playing in the TAC cup
Soldo played against Werribee two weeks back. He had 4 kicks (2 effective), 2 handballs, 3 uncontested marks and a tackle. Looks like he's been dropped back to the TAC Cup (Northern Knights) where he's played most of the year so far.

Soldo's years away if he makes it at all.....Blicavs he ain't...

Soldo's years away if he makes it at all.....Blicavs he ain't...
We'd better make recruiting a tall, athletic, high-leaping ruckman our number one priority this year then. Because as great as he's been, it's pretty obvious that Maric is in decline.

For a doctor your intelligence seems to have taken a hit since you became a regular poster on OER.
Well done Doc :snidegrin

Really hoping 2-3 players on the list stand up in a big way today and announce themselves for selection contention for next week. Would be nice to get a win too

We have one but all he can do is tap the ball. On the flip side, he'd help avoid the clearance work by the opposition which killed us last night. Do think Ivvy looked injured

Dominated first 15 mins of the first qtr but couldn't put it on the scoreboard. We missed 5 set shots :banghead.

Newy's a lock for the AFL next week after that 90 seconds, hang your head Newy. Very very poor
-
For anyone who was watching this game and saw Chris Newman in the last minute, if he plays for the Seniors it would selection suicide.
29 mins gone kick in. Dogs 84-82. No straight up the guts just a short kick into the pocket to play safe.
A minute later half back flank takes a mark side breaking. Stops props, takes 15 seconds of the clock goes sideways 30 metres.
Safe chip chip footy trying to save games not win them.
Please none of this at senior level.

Newmans leadership :lol. Couldn't even show it in the VFL :lol
Losing by two points late in the quarter and twice he just took his time, slew it down and kicked short laterally. The other time he was forced to bomb long but he could of played on and got more or it instead he kicks it straight down the throat of a Doggies player :lol

I was impressed with McDonough, and I've never been a big fan of his. Has to come in for mine.

Ayce Cordy in match-winning performance
Brent Diamond
The Age
June 20, 2015 - 6:23PM
Footscray coach Ash Hansen described Western Bulldogs ruckman Ayce Cordy's performance as "match winning" after he kicked six goals in the Dogs' two-point victory over Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Saturday.
The reigning premiers' top-four hopes remain alive after levelling their season at 4-4 ahead of a blockbuster clash with Sandringham next week.
But any chance of Richmond making the VFL finals appears dashed. The Tigers dropped to second last with a 2-7 record.
Despite plenty riding on the result, there seemed a lack of urgency in the final quarter from both teams. It was as if Footscray fell over the line, rather than winning it. They kicked 2.9 to 1.1 after trailing by two goals at the last change.
This was one that got away for the Tigers as they appeared to have all of the momentum. Sam Lloyd's high-flyer and goal gave them an 11-point buffer, before Kane Lambert snapped another late in the third quarter. Cordy's mammoth mark and fifth goal after the three-quarter-time siren reduced the deficit to within two kicks. The Bulldogs were prepared to kick long to their tall targets in the final term, but it was one of the smalls – Caleb Daniel – who kicked the first.
Soon after, the Dogs found a mismatch with Cordy grabbing another mark in front of Tiger skipper Chris Newman and kicked his sixth to put the visitors in front.
It was shortlived, however, as Ed Barlow, with his 17th disposal, kicked the Tigers' only goal of the term. From then, the Dogs peppered away at the goals. Mitch Honeychurch ran into the open goal and missed. Dale Morris had the opportunity for a fairytale return from injury, but failed to take a grab in the goal square and the ball trickled through for a behind.
Shane Biggs, with 31 touches running off half-back, was a key to the victory.
Cordy's efforts were considered a "great reward for playing some consistent footy over the last couple of years at VFL level" by coach Ash Hansen.

Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris and Richmond veteran Chris Newman also got through unscathed in their returns from injury in their VFL clash at Punt Road Oval.
Richmond's Newman was relatively quiet for much of the match. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said this week that he will be challenged to win a spot back into the senior team. It was his second consecutive VFL match on return from a groin injury.

I like the way he moves - kind of flows along like dal santo making time for himself...
-
Newmans stats? Anyone got them and how did he go
Newy had 19 disposals. He had about 8-9 up to half-time. I thought he was good early on and okay to solid for the remainder of the game until the last two minutes when he gave ammo to his critics by going slow and 'safe' sideways when we were 2 points down.
Here's the qtr-by-qtr individual stats available:
QT: Cachia finished that first quarter with 12 disposals, 4 clearances and McDonough has 11 disposals.
HT: Cachia doubled his first quarter efforts. He has 24 possessions (12 contested) and 9 clearances. McDonough has 15 disposals, Dea has 13. Kane Lambert, who came on after quarter time, has 11 disposals and looks lively. Matt Thomas also has 11 disposals and 7 tackles.
3QT: Cachia already up to 30 disposals. Lambert is on 22, McDonough 22, Dea 19, Lennon 18, Thomas 18

FT: Cachia 38, Lambert 28, McDonough 28, Thomas 22, Dea 21, Newman 19.

Competitive Tigers fall short in VFL thriller
By Catherine Durkin
June 20, 2015 6:26 PM
Richmond’s VFL team was left ruing missed opportunities in its two-point loss to Footscray on Saturday at the ME Centre.
The Tigers dominated play early and could have taken substantial leads at various stages, but inefficiency plagued the Tigers, and they struggled to establish much of a buffer.
The lead changed hands frequently throughout, with the winning margin resulting from two rushed behinds to the Bulldogs in the dying minutes.
In a game of great intensity, Jaryd Cachia continued his influential form. He gathered 38 possessions (21 contested), 13 clearances and applied intense pressure on Footscray’s midfielders.
Matt McDonough also shone around the contest with 28 disposals and five clearances. He also managed to push forward to kick three goals.
VFL coach Tim Clarke said a lack of ball control at various times played a critical role in the team’s loss.
“If you can’t control the footy, the other team doesn’t have to defend. We felt today that their (Footscray’s) ability to transition off turnovers was very good and it put our backs under pressure,” he said.
“But on the flip side we struggled at times to control the footy and give our forwards the best chance of competing and it ended up hurting us in the end.”
But Clarke was quick to reinforce the improvement in the team’s intensity and attack on the football.
“Last time when we played against Werribee we weren’t competitive. We were terrible through the midfield but today our boys competed really well,” he said.
“For them (Footscray) to have the ruck advantage and for our boys to keep fighting the way they did was really good to see.”
“It is a disappointing game, given that we lost, but we had some good players today and at least they can say they played well and they can push hard for senior selection this week.”
Two players who attracted the praise of their coach were Matt Dea, who provided excellent run off the halfback line, and Sam Lloyd, who kicked two goals and was impactful in the forward line.
“Dea has been pushing for senior selection for about eight weeks. He keeps fighting and doing the right thing at VFL so we know when the time comes, when an opportunity opens up, he’s ready to take it,” he said.
“And Lloydy was probably the only forward on the day that won his position, which was great given that they (Footscray) were able to dominate us in the air.”
Another highlight for the Tigers was the long-awaited return of Kane Lambert, who injured his shoulder in Round 2 of the AFL.
After coming on during the second quarter, Lambert dominated both in around the contest, collecting 28 disposals, eight clearances and kicking a goal.
The Tigers will look to bounce back next Saturday when they meet Williamstown at the ME Centre.

This weekend: Richmond v Footscray - Saturday June 20, 12.12pm, Punt Road Oval
Defender Chris Newman lined up in his second VFL game after overcoming a groin injury and finished with 19 disposals in the Tigers' two-point defeat.
A Richmond spokesman told AFL.com.au Newman played out the full game across half-back and got through unscathed.
Mature-age recruit Kane Lambert made a promising return from a shoulder injury he sustained in his AFL debut in round two, accumulating 28 touches, eight clearances and a one goal in three quarters of game time.
After missing the Tigers' last game before the bye, defender Matt Dea was named among his team's better-performed players with 21 disposals.
Ruckman Shaun Hampson, who was expected to take the field, sat out for a third consecutive game.

How did Lennon go?
Played a good game. Solid in the contest working both ways whilst using the ball extremely well. I would be playing him in the senior side but that's just my opinion.

Well that's good news.

-
Richmond’s VFL coach Tim Clarke's summary of the Tigers’ AFL-listed players:
Kane Lambert
28 disposals, eight clearances, seven inside 50s, one goal
Produced a terrific three-quarter performance. Came on after quarter-time due to management of an injury that had sidelined him for a couple of months. Had nearly 30 disposals, including seven inside 50s and four shots for goal. He gave us something our team has lacked for a little while – run and carry around the stoppages and plenty of energy.
Matt McDonough
28 disposals, five clearances, three goals
Had his best game for several weeks. Won a lot of ball and also impacted the scoreboard. If he can play like this on a consistent basis, he’s going to be pushing hard for senior selection. It’s the standard that he needs to be at.
Matt Thomas
24 disposals, five clearances, nine tackles
Was very good after a quiet first quarter. Really got going and gave us plenty of grunt inside. Led the way for us with his strong tackling. We need his intensity around the ball for us to be a competitive side.
Matt Dea
21 disposals, nine marks
Keeps on ticking all the boxes playing in defence. Just gets the job done. Several of the nine marks he took were important interceptions from opposition kicks. Continues to help set us up offensively, which has been a key focus of his. Is pressing strongly for senior selection.
Nathan Gordon
21 disposals, five clearances, one goal
Played a different role through the wings and up forward. Has been a consistent performer over the past three weeks and we know that if the senior team needs his services, he’s ready to go.
Ben Lennon
20 disposals, two goals
Also had a different role, playing across the wings, with some patches at half- forward. Was quite consistent throughout, but we’d still like him to get more of the ball because every time he gets his hands on the footy, something positive happens for the team. Kicking two goals from the wing was a good return from him.
Sam Lloyd
19 disposals, 10 marks, two goals
Again was a dominant forward for us. Plays small, plays tall, and wins critical contests. It’s something that is highlighted when you look at the marking ‘stats’, which indicate he took four contested marks.
Chris Newman
19 disposals, five marks
Was a good performer for us across half-back in his second game back from injury. Used the ball well and helped our backline set up. His experience and composure has been really valuable for our young, inexperienced team.
Matt Arnot
15 disposals, four tackles
Had a different role across half-back and seemed to relish the change. Helped to set us up offensively, but also did a good job in nullifying the small Footscray forwards.
Liam McBean
13 disposals, 16 hit outs, one goal
Started in his customary forward role and then provided us with something when he went into the ruck in the second half. Was quite competitive against the strong Footscray rucking combination of Campbell and Cordy. Also hit the scoreboard a couple of times, so it seems like it’s a good role for him.
Reece McKenzie
Eight disposals
Played one of his best games of the season. Took only one mark, but had 10-15 contests where he brought the ball to ground. That’s the expectation we have of our forwards . . . if they can’t mark the ball, then they’re to at least provide us with a contest. Really pleased with how he’s been performing and his development as a key forward.
Jayden Short
Eight disposals
Was well below the standard we’ve come to expect from him, in what was a really tough game for small forwards, with none of our boys able to have an impact. We need him to bring more tackling pressure and greater intensity around the contest.

Chris Newman
His experience and composure has been really valuable for our young, inexperienced team.
This sounds like a farewell to Chris from the VFL coach.... :banghead
