GhostofJimJess (an old roarpower poster) on BF's main board posted that the Tigers have all six interstate away trips in 2006 including four in the first six rounds due to the Commonwealth games. The two home games in that period are against the Bulldogs in Round 1 and the Saints in Round 4 :-\.

Any up at Brisbane?

Any up at Brisbane?
He said all six interstate trips so if he's right then you'll see Richo up close again Julz lol but I don't know if it'll be in the first 6 weeks.
-
I just hope we don’t have another season where we have to play the majority of our games on Sundays
-
My wish - no more Friday nighters for the boring Pies :sleep and more for us :thumbsup.

Doh - didn't read the six part. Might even squeeze another quick trip to Melb to watch my boys ;)

Don't forget that some Melbourne based teams will be playing home games insterstate in 2006 because of the MCG situation - eg Melbourne are supposed to be playing a home game down the road from Julz at Carrara ;D
So if we are going to get so many interstate games perhaps one of them maybe in Tassie or at Carrara - rather than the standard Subi, SCG, AAMI, or Gabba games - just a thought

Carrara would be better than Brissie for me. :thumbsup

Six night games to open next season
By Dwayne Russell and Warwick Green
The Age
September 25, 2005
THE AFL is set to launch the 2006 season with a radical opening round that will feature six night matches. Round one will begin with a Thursday night match in Perth on March 30 between West Coast and St Kilda and conclude on Monday night with a Telstra Dome match between Collingwood and Adelaide.
The AFL has completed a final draft of the 2006 draw and is seeking feedback from the 16 clubs, who have received a list of the matches that involve their teams.
The draft outlines a proposal for six of the eight matches in round one to be played at night, including a Sunday night match between Melbourne and Carlton at Telstra Dome. There would be night matches played on five consecutive days, from Thursday to Monday. It is expected that either the Sunday night or Monday night match would be telecast exclusively by pay television channel Fox Footy.
There will be no day games scheduled in Melbourne in round one, to avoid the one-off clash with the Australian formula one grand prix, which is being held the same weekend instead of in its traditional early March slot. The unavailability of the MCG because of the Commonwealth Games also complicates planning. The only day matches in the opening round would be played in Geelong (Saturday) and Launceston (Sunday).
It is also believed that Monday night matches could feature prominently in the first month of the AFL's 2006 draw. Telstra Dome chief Ian Collins is keen for the stadium to host Monday night matches on the Easter (April 17) and Anzac Day rounds.
AFL executive Ben Buckley told The Age in May that Monday night matches in the early part of the 2006 season were considered because of scheduling difficulties, and that the league was not looking to introduce them permanently.
"It's largely due to a series of unusual circumstances and the post-Commonwealth Games situation with the MCG, but it shouldn't be seen as part of any long-term policy," Buckley told The Age's chief football writer, Caroline Wilson. "But it's quite possible there could be some Monday night games and it would be an interesting experiment."

Also on page 32 of the sports liftout in Sunday's Age (25/9/05) in Dwayne Russell's "Pssst" column he has listed the Tigers first 4 games as follows:
Round 1 - Western Bulldogs -v- Richmond (TD -Friday night)
Round 2 - Richmond -v- St Kilda (TD - Friday night)
Round 3 - Eagles -v- Richmond (Subiaco - Sunday Arvo game)
Round 4 - Brisbane -v- Richmond (Gabba - Saturday night game)
-
That is a tough 2 weeks playing West Coast and Brisbane away in consecutive weeks.
Sure will take it out of the players, being so early in the season it is bound to be hot still also.

Eek! :help.
Eagles and Lions interstate trips back-to-back with only a six day break between :banghead.
On the bright side we'll have back-to-back home games against interstate sides towards the end of the year.
We usually start seasons well so maybe copping the hard games early we may be able to reach at least 2-2 after those 4 games. Bloody tough draw though given those four clubs are all potentially top 8 sides in 2006 with the Saints and Eagles top 2 material and we'll have to play them twice.
-
Well all will revealed next week folks..............
The 2006 draw is due out next Tuesday 4/10/05.
Funny how it's being released during trade week - is this to take the focus off the crap draws some teams are going to get :help ;) ;D
-
Well atleast if we have another typical great start to the season, it will be against really good teams and interstate!

League gives Richmond the travel bug
By Michael Gleeson
The Age

RICHMOND will travel interstate six times next season, including back-to-back trips with only a six-day break.
The Tigers are not thrilled with the new draw, which schedules them to play West Coast in Perth in round three before a six-day break and a trip to play Brisbane at the Gabba. They play twice in Perth, once in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and against Hawthorn in Tasmania.
"It's not ideal — from the footy side of things, it could certainly be better," said Richmond director of football Greg Miller.
"Look, we understand that every club has got a wish-list and some years it is fulfilled and other years it isn't. You can't have it all all of the time so we are not complaining about it."
Collingwood will travel interstate four times next season, playing in Adelaide twice, Sydney and against West Coast in Perth, but do not fly to Brisbane.
As reported in The Sunday Age, round one will include an extraordinary six night games, including one on Sunday and one on Monday night at Telstra Dome during the grand prix long weekend. The game of the round will be at Subiaco Oval on March 30 between West Coast and St Kilda.

Financially it doesn't sound too good either unless I'm missing something obvious. I only get a 11 game home membership so it won't affect me but won't the whole season ticket fall from 17 to 16 games meaning less $$$ for the RFC?
On the positive we have at least 3 home games against interstate sides - Eagles, Lions and either Port or the Crows.

The numbers 5 and/or 12 come to mind off the top of my head Razor ;).
I don't think Julz was thinking of any of us here. Just a hunch ;D

They (the AFL) also wanted us to play on the moon but they refused to subsidise the travel costs :help
Doesn't look like I'll be seeing 22 games live next season :banghead

The Hawthorn game in Launceston is on Sunday, 18th June in Round 12. So we miss out on playing the Hawks twice.
