Was reported on PRE today that Bomberjohn passed away in a car accident 7 weeks ago.
Not sure if many here would remember him - maybe Julz and MT - but most of us adopted him as a fellow feral.
Thought it might have been a cruel joke, but found some newspaper clips which confirmed - won't post here.
Will never forget you mate :'(
-
Sad to hear Moi. A unique bomber supporter and muso who spent as much if not more time on the old tigerfury site in 2001 with us tiger ferals and his Tiger supporting buddy nitro as he did on bomberblitz, then just disappeared when the rival sites were closed down.
-
Yes I remember him and Nitro - ahh those were the days.
-
I remember him too, back in my Dickie Clay days. Very sad to hear.
-
Never knew anyone who was more my soulmate.
He may not have been perfect, but he was pretty special to me
RIP BJ, i luv you to death :-*
-
Very sad to hear that Rove McManus' wife, actress Belinda Emmett lost her battle with cancer earlier today. She was only 32.
-
She was such a great girl.
rip Belinda.
Shocking news but expected.
-
Very Sad news, life seems so cruel sometimes.
Rove has been a great support through the whole battle.
Only the good die young.
-
RIP Belinda.
Always smiling through unimaginable pain.
-
Very sad news :'(. Belinda was so brave as jake said.
Deepest sympathies to Rove and the Emmett and McManus families.
-
Charming, courageous and full of class.
A lovely person
RIP Belinda
-
Shocking news... :'(
She was so young. Sympathies to Rove and both familys
-
Kim "foot in mouth" Beazley has done it again confusing Rove's name with a US political advisor while offering his condolences.
-
Sad to hear that Billy Thorpe died early this morning from a massive heart attack. He was a great icon for Australian music.
-
A sad loss of the man who sang my theme song....Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy
RIP Billy Thorpe
-
RIP Billy
-
RIP Billy
I've just realised what I can do with all my old vinyls - wait till they die and put them on Ebay
Bloke on tellie just said an album was worth about $100 ::)
-
Just goes to show how the music business has changed. You've got pop stars today with more money than they can blow on 100 trips to rehab while Billy allegedly had hardly any in his old(ish) age for a heart operation :(.

I found out today that Jim, from Nth Carlton Newsagency on Lygon St, just near Pigdon St, passed away last Tuesday in Queensland. I am not sure of his age, but would've been in his 60's.
Jim loved the Tigers since he was a kid and counted himself as one of our staunchest fans. Royce Hart was his all time favorite player, but he would secretly admit to Matty Knights being his favorite at times. Knights provided Jim (and many of us) with his favorite football memory as he dazzled his opponents with 3 goals in that famous 2nd Semi against the Bombers, even though Jim was at the 1980 GF, but he really thought we were finally back as a force that year until of course we met Geelong in the Prelim!
Jim hated all the crap that has been introduced into football such as the national competition, video reports and so on. He loved the VFL and lamented the loss of suburban grounds, he just loved his old fashioned footy. In his final months he greatly enjoyed a book called 'All the Tiger Year- A Richmond Fanatic's 2003 season' by John Green. He loved the suburban and family type references made in the book.
He has complete faith with the youngsters coming through at Richmond, in his later years I know he took to observing the young talent coming through and I know that this lot excited him tremendously, he liked Wallace too, he died knowing the team was heading in the right direction, and thought they were in good hands. We have lost a great Tiger fan in Jim.
RIP Jim
DC
-
Condolences DC and to Jim's family. It's passion from Tiger supporters like that from Jim that kept our club going even through the down years.
RIP
-
Great tribute there DC.
Never knew Jim, but he sounded like a fantastic Richmond supporter.
RIP Jim
-
Thanks guys.
Jim would've loved to see the Tiges get up on the weekend too.
Correction: He ran the 'Princes Hill' newsagency.
:thumbsup

To a wonderful and inspiring person, RIP Jane McGrath.
Was a beautiful lady inside and out.
If anyone has ever seen her interviews, you just can't help but love her.
RIP wonderful lady :'(
Condolences to Glenn and her children!
-
Sorry One Eyed, I put in the wrong section.
Can you move?
-
Just heard it on the radio..
very sad indeed. Apparently it was a bit sudden.
had a turn for their worse recently and couldn't fight it no longer.

That's terrible , cancer horid disease
-
A brave lady who fought a brave fight
RIP Jane
Deepest sympathy to the MaGrath family
-
Yep she was a fantastic person from what we seen of her.
Very genuine and such a loving person.
RIP Jane.
-
Saw the Enough Rope interview - she came across such a fantastic, inspirational person. Extremely sad to hear of her passing :'(
-
Very sad
-
Very sad. Left behind two young kids too I think :(.
Sympathies and Condolences to the whole McGrath family.
RIP
-
Very tragic indeed. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Glenn and the rest of the McGrath family.
My Mum in law is currently facing a tough battle with cancer for a second time. She is currently on a heavy chemo cycle which has knocked the stuffing out of her!
She's a tough cookie but fighting cancer is the toughest battle of all. I was so hoping that Jane would have pulled through. She seemed like such a lovely person. :'(
RIP Jane
-
Hard to comprehend how these things happen to good people.
My fiancee's aunt who is 45 with 3 young kids is facing the same battle, however it has now spread to 3 different sections of her body.
Chemo has not worked and the doctors refuse to operate, citing its too dangerous so she is about to begin
radiotherapy.
Very sad indeed..
-
Not mant if any that are not touched or affected by this montrous disease.
Saw my Nan die from it, not nice - she had a good innings tho.
Then a couple of years after I left and old job found out my boss there had died from it.
Non smoker non drinker ran every day, was apparently diagnosed 6 months later dead.
Or one of mums friends' daughter 18 ready to start life diagnosed, 3 months later dead.
Worse thing about this one is 2 young kids now have no mother. Horrible ...
faith pffft
-
well l can truely speak as a person who has been treated for bowel cancer that Australia has lost a great Ambassador in Jane McGrath who knew her destination, but had the will & courage to fight & put on a brave face for those around her, that it may help many other people fight a terrible disease that has many forms & strikes at any time
Her making people aware of cancer & that it can be treated has helped save many lifes
please give comfort to the Glen McGrath, thier children & all thier extended families at such this sad time
if you suspect something is not right with your body like l did, no matter how embarrassing it may be, please go talk to your doctor because if you dont it will not just effect you, but it will also effect the ones that love you even more, cause this is truely a disease that people need to take serious. l cant think of many things worse than watching a loved one die slowly from this terrible disease, & l know most of us would have seen it before in our lives
Do it for Jane just like she did it for all of us :'(
RIP beautiful woman :pray
-
Very True TM.
as i said in a earlier post my fiancee's aunt first had signs in October 2006 but never got tested till March 2007, 6 months after.
By that stage it had spread, and it has since got worse.
It is a very sad time for the family, especially knowing it may have been prevented.
She begins radio this week, Fingers crossed!!
-
I remember watching her on Denton (they replayed it only a few months ago) and thought what a great lady.
What a fighter...
RIP Jane
As for this sinsiter disease.... my thoughts and best wishes go to anyone who is battling it and those around them that have to deal with it and also live with it. It's a monster and effing bastard of a thing
We've all been touched by it that I have no doubt (have 2 friends fighting the fight as we speak).
But Jane McGrath was absolutely spot on it certainly makes you apprecaite how precious life really is and understand what's important
-
Only man I would have gladly aged 20 years for :'(
Sexiest man ever!
RIP Cool Hand Paul
:'(
-
I was always impressed by how down to earth and charitable he was.
A real person and a real man.
-
What a great philosophy on life he had - "those of us who have been lucky in life should give to those who have been unlucky in life" or words to that affect. Backed it up with his actions too.

DIMINUTIVE former child actor Gary Coleman, known to millions as the star of hit sitcom Diff'rent Strokes, has died after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He was aged just 42.

Didn't have much going for him - life must have sucked a bit for him
RIP

That show was cursed.
All three child actors had short stuffed up lives afterwoods

Actually, I think I may be wrong. The actor who played the older brother is still alive(?) but did have trouble with drugs and the law

Yep Todd Bridges is still alive but you're right all 3 young lives were messed up. Dana Plato died of an overdose at 34.
-
From what I have seen of late about him.
He actually came over as a very angry little man.
-
Was a millionaire at two stages of his life and both times he ended up virtually bankrupt.
It's a shame regardless of what person he was. It is just an unfortunante thing that ultimately transpires with
many child stars and that is a young untimely death.

Adriana Xenides, once the glamorous hostess of television game show Wheel of Fortune, has died in a Sydney hospital.
Xenides, 54, passed away in Liverpool Hospital this afternoon, media reports said, with the Seven Network saying she suffered a ruptured intestine.
She had been admitted with a stomach complaint a few days earlier.
The former model and television celebrity first appeared on Wheel of Fortune at age 22.
She also appeared as a panelist on panel talk show Beauty and the Beast, and the Australian version of Celebrity Big Brother in 2002.

bit of a barbie doll, probably crushed her insides getting into the gear

Some may know him, but he was a legendary Davis Cup trainer/masseuse
Just annouced he passed away on the tennis.
I was a friend of him and his lovely wife Lyn, and I remember him telling me he worked on Royce in that final where he injured and came back and blitzed Collingwood I think.
Fantastic hands - fixed my crook old neck once lol
Remember Chris Evert flying to see him on one of her injuries.
Sad day for me and my family
RIP Stan
:'(
-
Sad to hear. I didn't know he helped Royce get on the park after half-time in that 1973 PF.
Condolences to his family and to you FNM.

Another one gone by own hand. Sad!
JAMES FREUD, bass player and singer with the successful 1980s band Models, died at the age of 51 at his home in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn yesterday.
The singer and songwriter, whose songs Barbados and Out of Mind, Out of Sight were the band's biggest hits, took his own life, according to a statement issued on behalf of the family and friends.
Only a week before, the Models had been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, with Freud absent from the ceremony. The explanation was that he "had another bicycle accident", which some took to be a reference to Freud returning to drinking after a well-publicised dry spell. The statement from his family said that "James's battle with alcoholism has been well-chronicled. His two books on his recovery and five years' sobriety were bestsellers and gave a lot of people who were suffering the same affliction comfort and hope.

"Unfortunately, James has succumbed to his disease and taken his own life this morning."
Freud, whose real name was Colin McGlinchey, began his musical career as a 17-year-old in the Teenage Radio Stars and had his first hit in 1980 with Modern Girl. Two years later he joined his old friend Sean Kelly in his band, Models, and was a significant contributor to their 1983 breakthrough album The Pleasure of Your Company. Last month it was named at No. 46 in the new book The 100 Best Australian Albums.
John O'Donnell, former record company executive and co-author of the book, said to him that album "was James Freud at his best. He went on to write and sing some of the band's biggest hits, and he is largely remembered for his pop-star good looks and Models' pop songs, but he was much more interesting and talented than that might have suggested him to be."
The Models with Freud (below centre)
Before and after Barbados, in which Freud described his alcoholism, he had always been frank about his experiences with drugs and alcohol.
In the first of his two books about his addictions and recovery, I Am the Voice Left From Drinking, he describes a scene from well before his fame with the Models: ''We were all going nowhere, man. Lots of rubbish, drugs, music … After a couple of months of abundance there was a heroin drought, so we started shooting up speed again … We weren't sleeping at all.''
According to Stuart Coupe, a veteran music journalist who wrote the foreword to I Am the Voice Left From Drinking, that kind of honesty was typical.
"He was without doubt one of the good guys and very, very amusing and fun to be around, not to mention being extremely talented and a great and gifted live performer."
He also pointed out Freud, whose wife, Sally, wrote a book about the Sydney Swans, "gave us [the song] One Tony Lockett".
Last week Freud's former bandmate Kelly told the music industry newsletter Music Network that "we actually don't spend much time together any more but because we were so close and almost like brothers … it keeps us friends".
James Freud is survived by Sally and sons Harrison and Jackson

Very, very sad news. The Models were my favourite Oz band of the '80's (with Hunters and Collecters a close second.) I used to go around the clubs and watch them all the time.
Admittedly I wasn't as fond of the commercial direction James took the band in with the "Out of Mind Out of Sight" album, even though both that single and "Barbados" were very good songs. I preferred the more skewed electronic brand of pop that the band played around '80/'81. But James' input on the 1983 album "The Pleasure Of Your Company" was great.
-
Geez, I can't believe you lot! Not a single post about the loss of James Freud.
If it had been that tone-deaf, screeching no-talent Jimmy Barnes that'd topped himself, you'd all be on here saying how sad it is.

Jimmy Barnes doesnt sing, he yells

Wasn't a James Fraud or Models fan
Very sad for those left behind

I must have been on another planet as i hadnt heard.

One of the best songs he has ever done.

I wasn't a fan either, but sad to see someone waste themselves to death
I did like this song though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7dnvxvcGRc&feature=related
Re Barnesy, I have a love/hate relationship with him
Hate the screeching but he has his moments when he gets it right
Nice fella I hear too
-
Check out the series of clips on you tube titled my first gig where barnsey does duets with a raft of artists. He's surprisingly versatile and as you say FNM, when he gets it right he he's quite good.
As for Freud, yes it is a shame to see another life wasted in such a way, but to me as he was not producing music and I have no emotional ties, his passing has no real effect on me, unlike his family and friends who would be devastated.
-
I wasn't a real Models fan either although I did like "I hear motion" growing up. I missed a lot of their earlier stuff as I was under 10. Like everyone else sad to see someone die in such circumstances. He looked and sounded pretty sad when he did the GF footy show a few years back. I flicked on the tv this morning and Rage had a Freud tribute but most of songs came from the Out of Sight Out of Mind album.

MOTOGP rider Marco Simoncelli has died after a crash two laps into the Malaysian MotoGP.
The Malaysian MotoGP was cancelled four minutes after the race began when the Honda rider fell and was hit by Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.
Simoncelli, 24, had his helmet knocked off in the accident, which occurred when the Italian lowsided from his bike at turn 11.
His bike veered across the track and straight into the path of Edwards and Rossi. The race was immediately red-flagged.
Simoncelli was motionless on the track after the impact.
Edwards also fell but escaped serious injury, while Rossi, on a Ducati, was able to return to the pits.
Simoncelli's condition was not immediately known.
Newly-crowned champion Casey Stoner admitted watching the accident made him worried for Simoncelli.
"As soon as I saw the footage it just makes you sick inside," the Australian told BBC2.
''Whenever the helmet comes off that's not a good sign."

As regular viewers of motor GP it's truly sad for the motor racing community.

Thoughts are with Marco's family and friends.
Also with Rossi and Edwards who knows what would be going through there minds know even though there was nothing they could do to prevent it.
-
Dreadful news, really nice guy, we sat next to Marco at dinner in Phillip Island a few years ago and my wife was speaking to him in Italian, he then let us all have photos with him and we all shook hands as he left.
Great big personality....fantastic man.
Massive loss..RIP Marco!!

Sympathies to his family and loved ones. His poor girlfriend was watching it live at the track :(.
This week just shows how dangerous motorsport is.

Nice generalisation there
I was at the SOO game last and the majority did the right thing. I was disgusted with what took place.
The morons in the media who are suggesting it was the interstaters who did it and not melbourne folks are just plain ignorant.
But please don't tarnish everyone there with the one brush

Yes must've been locals and Australian Rules fans yelling out "Queenslander!" and "Gallen's a wanker!".....

Yes must've been locals and Australian Rules fans yelling out "Queenslander!" and "Gallen's a wanker!".....
Again very poor generalisation, actually extremely foolsih.
There were 91+ k people there
25k people came in from interstate
To suggest that the only people yelling out came from the 25k interstaters is ridiculous.
It doesn't matter who did it, it should not have happened. It was disgraceful behaviour
But I suppose it's easier to blame one group than to whack our own even if they deserve it.
From where I was sitting, it wasn't just the interstaters who were moronic bogans

Nope Dooks a very proud Australian born & raised in Victoria. Outside of 12 months when my family lived in Nthn Vic I've always lived in Melbourne
Not that I see the relevance TBH, bad behaviour is bad behaviour, and what happened was bad behaviour. The people who did it should be ashamed. It should only about WHO did it, WHO sunk so low

Fair enough WP and that gives more credence to your point.
I think where the assumption that it was comes from interstate is based on that sort of behaviour being foreign to afl and cricket tributes (in fact most sport in this city) at major events in Melbourne.
Maybe it's more of a Rugby League culture thing. Or maybe there were just a lot of people on the turps.
Thoughts?

There were alot of people on the turps but that's nothing new, that happens all the time as well. Only thing that appeared to be over different was the queues to buy the turps. Heard some people say they had queued for over 20 minutes to buy some beers
Interesting point you make the behavoiur being foreign to sporting events here. One of my biggest "bug bears" is people who talk through or refuse to stand for the national anthem, to me that is incredbily disrespectful but it happens all the time and no one ever talks about that.
I remember at the MCG last year at the Hafey Tribute game where I was sitting I heard people talking, heard one person yell out "go tigers". That was disrespectful and downright disgusting but no one talked about it? Don't think the person was an interstater
Couple of years back I went to the Melb Storm ANZAC day game against the Warriors, someone yelled out during the ceremony (during the break in the last post IIRC) "Go Storm". How disgusting is that? Did we hear one word about it no.
I've been in Perth at Subi during an ANZAC round and people yelled out there...
My personal view was that the one of the problems is something the organisers created and that was by having the tribute after the national anthem. We all now at AFL games that as soon as the anthem is over people start yelling out for their teams, that's a cultural thing as it happens all the time. It was a stupid decision. Again doesn't make what happened right but it did IMHO impact on it
Last year at the SOO in Brisbane they had a tribute for the late Arthur Beetson, the crowd though predomiantly from QLD had folks from NSW who travelled, during that tribute you would noat have heard a pin drop
So my point remains the same to suggest that this boorish behaviour was solely the result of interstaters or that is a cultural thing of NRL is not realistic and ridiculous.
I go to a lot/most of the big events in Melbourne and from experience I havent heard a pin drop for years now.
I blame the interstaters for sure.
Sorry cub but IMV that's a cop out because it's the easy way out. I too have been to many big sporting events in Melb plus interstate and I've witnessed bogan behaviour at our events. Certainly not to the extent to what happened on Wed night but it does happen and to sugesst otherwise is wrong
just seems easier to blame the outsiders than blame our own
Will keep saying it this should be about the WHO did and not where they came from
-
No where near to that extend - agree to disagree on this one
-
Random Vics & AFL followers yelling out Queenslander and Gallen's a wanker...yeah righteo WP.....
-
Random Vics & AFL followers yelling out Queenslander and Gallen's a wanker...yeah righteo WP.....
So the people a few rows behind me who were talking about the AFL game they went to the previous weekend during the anthem and where one was wearing an AFL club hoody who yelled out "Gallen you Dog" weren't actually AFL people at the SOO but interstates in disguise? righteo then.
-
Yes I believe you WP.....was all Victorians & AFL people yelling out just to make Northerners & NRL people look bad...
-
Yes I believe you WP.....was all Victorians & AFL people yelling out just to make Northerners & NRL people look bad...
Nice twist of things to suit you purpose
I am not disputing for one moment that there were interstates that yelled out.
But what I am disputing/saying and will continue to do is this farcical argument that the only people yelling out and being disrespectful were the interstaters.
This is simply not true and to suggest otherwise is simply ridiculous. But hey no doubt it is a helluva lot easier to point fingers in that direction
I will repeat for the last time it is not about where the morons came from it is about who did it. They are gutless, disrespecting bogans and I don't give a crap where they live it is not relevant to the behaviour they dished up. They were a disgrace end of story
But if making this a state based issue to try hide the abhorrent behaviour of all the people who stooped to this pitiful level works for some people then that's there choice
-

A sad day and an end of an era. Bert was the last of the legends from Aussie TVs golden years.
I wasn't born for IMT (although I've seen many highlights since) but I grew up with the Don Lane Show. In a two-man comedy act, Bert could play both roles. He was the 'straight-man' to Kennedy and then switched to playing the clown to Don Lane.

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie has passed away at age 79
Songwriter, pianist and singer for so long I always believed she was the glue that held that band and its egos together. Why? Because she didn't have an ego.
One of my great musical joys was seeing what I've always said is the true Fleetwood Mac in Melbourne when Christine rejoined the band after a well earned break
Mick, John, Christine, Lindsay and Stevie together playing all their classics. With Christine on grand piano closing the show with Songbird

He was a freak of a footballer. That goal he kicked where he smothered Ian Nankervis' kick and in one motion snapped it from the boundary is still one of the best goals of all time IMO.

RIP
Walls was great for Fitzroy in the mid 80s, the Bears in terms of legacy, and of course Carlton. However, he was never accepted when he coached us given his Carlton background. Especially so after we failed to make the finals by just half a game in his first year as coach in 1996. He tried to get us to play a more possession-based gameplan rather than the direct route one way under Northey. But we didn't have a skilled enough team for that sort of gamestyle.

RIP Charlie Kirk.
A family man, a Christian and a political conservative that believed in freedom of speech, an exchange of ideas, opinions and having open discourse in college campuses throughout the US was assassinated at 31. A husband and father killed for speaking the truth.
He was always respectful in his speech and always gave an opportunity for apposing views to have a discussion. He started doing this when he was 20 before there were thousands of people and microphones or cameras. In 13 years he built a very successful movement. He was even recently parodied on South Park which he complimented and thought was hilarious and the ultimate compliment.
May God give comfort and strength to your family and may your legacy and impact live on.

RIP Charlie .. terrible what happened
But to suggest he was killed for speaking the truth is a stretch
He was known for spreading misinformation
A lot of his views were divisive as well
-
What misinformation? Genuinely curious.
I've seen a bit of his stuff. Generally a respectful guy staunch in his views.
Absolute tragedy. Feel for his family
-
RIP Charlie .. terrible what happened
:thumbsup
But to suggest he was killed for speaking the truth is a stretch
Truth = Fact
1) Abortion is the indiscriminate killing of life
2) Biological women are NOT men and biological men are NOT women
Both of these statements are true according to objective reality and have always been true.
He was known for spreading misinformation
Big claim. Maybe. You'd have to clarify what he said that was misinformation and why
A lot of his views were divisive as well
Probably to some people on the opposing viewpoint.
Some just won't listen to the other side and take things said out of context because it may suit a narrative or paint a picture of someone to make them sound racist or a hate monger.
Charlie was willing to engage with students and teachers and answer their questions and push back on particular narratives with a discussion and a conversation. We may not agree but let's talk about it and see what happens.
“When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence. That’s when civil war happens, because you start to think the other side is so evil, and they lose their humanity.”
Charlie Kirk.
-
I was a fan somewhat.
Agreed with many things he said, mostly the below stuff, because I take particular issue with what I perceive as the forced false reality of someone else's gender dysphoria. I'm happy to call you whatever name you want, whatever pronoun you want as long as you don't admonish me for getting in wrong from time to time, but I will never acknowledge you as the gender you want to be. Only what I can see and observe and assess for myself. Unfortunately this nonsense is rife and it sickens me that pre-pubescent children are receiving HRT/blockers or having surgery to mutilate themselves, encouraged by others.
I also take issue with someone like that Mouncey person at 188cm and probably 100kg playing footy with ladies. Disgusting.
To me this was just an extremist lefty murdering someone who expressed very conservative views, and often did it quite calmly, factually and respectfully, even if some people found him inflammatory or upsetting that's no reason to kill a bloke.
Same goes with the Minnesota murders of the democrats etc.
2) Biological women are NOT men and biological men are NOT women
Both of these statements are true according to objective reality and have always been true.
-
I will start by saying I'm not a fan, nor a hater .. BUT, regardless of what I think, him being assassinated is horrendous and he most definitely didn't deserve it at all.
As an atheist it's vary rare that I am a fan of devout Christian's like Kirk.
I have my own personal beliefs .. example, I think a woman that has been raped should be allowed an abortion .. denying that is a horrendous act IMO
His views on LGBQT+, I agree with a lot of.
He used his position within religion to very smartly gain traction with other "believers", yet says there should be a line between religion and state .. I believe he used his religious beliefs to cross that line (Christian Nationalism).
The views on the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King, were, IMO, extremely divisive. Nobody can tell me different on that. The idiocy of being against woman taking birth control because it suited the leanings of the Democrats because it made woman angry and bitter, is nonsense IMO.
As for misinformation. Hydroxychloroquine during Covid was one. Human trafficking numbers another. Lying about Obama during Swine Flu was another.
He was one of the main people involved in the attack on the White House as well.
Sad he's dead, he shouldn't be. He should be allowed to say as he pleases without fear of being shot.
Millions loved him, idolised him. In religious America, it isn't surprising, but for me it's all gone over the top.
Flags at the half, calls for statues and whatever else. National hero etc. I don't go for all that, but I'm not American.

why not share? if those strong views in any way are thinking he helped bring it on himself..
He said nothing that would warrant any type of violence let alone a brutal death.
This shows how dangerous this stupid bloody planet has become. At least we have left wing media to let us know it could have been a supporter of charlie shooting their gun in celebration.
Why is it so fricken hard for some people to just either say their piece and leave it at that or simply ignore people they know they won't agree with or find common ground? Nooo, we have to call them fascist, nazi etc and shoot them. It's sickening

I must be the only person who had never heard of him. Mind you I pay little attention to these moronic foreign Yanks. Even more so, I can't stand so-called "influencers" (talk about an Orwellian term btw). Imagine being a sheep whose worldview is "influenced" from these attention-seeking money-grubby grifters with no qualifications nor expertise in anything :facepalm.
Anyway, I see this guy was your typical evangelical religious nutjob you get in America. Another hypocrite who dressed up his political conservatism and culture war crap as "Christianity" (I must have missed where in the Bible it says Je-sus was a political conservative who loved guns and hated people who were born different ::) ).
Anyway, this little 'gem' of his stood out:
"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.
Ironic.
Now, should someone be targeted and murdered, of course not. It's evil, barbaric, and ultimately self-destructive as it becomes tit-for-tat violence with reprisal after reprisal. Just a form of gangster culture. But this overtly toxic American culture enables such evil acts and does nothing to reduce them let alone prevent them. And when you have these grifters promoting and exploiting this deranged BS for political fame and profit, it's hard to have sympathy when they end up a victim of it. Stupid Yankee idiots!
Thankfully, we Aussies rejected such foreign toxic cultural war crap in large numbers at the last election. Helps that we don't have this idiotic gun culture and further to that we're approaching a majority who are non-religious, so we aren't so gullible. Which begs the question as to why this guy is being made such a big deal of here in Australia's media when he had nothing to do with Australia. Our pathetic out of touch media pandering once again to the tiny minority fringe ::).

Yep, everyone with an opposing view to you is moronic. You admit to knowing nothing about him and go on a rant saying its hard to have any sympathy..and that hes a stupid american idiot.
Awesome. Stay classy.
Dude is dead, murdered in front of his wife and kid. Find some sympathy in that and be quiet the next time someone on the opposing side of politics dies in the most terrible way.

Dude is dead, murdered in front of his wife and kid. Find some sympathy in that and be quiet the next time someone on the opposing side of politics dies in the most terrible way.
You mean like how he mocked a political opponent and her husband in 2023 after the husband was attacked with a hammer in their own home by saying a "patriot" (one his MAGA crowd) should bail out the attacker. Yeah, what a class act he was towards his political opponents ::).
By his own words he had little sympathy for tens of thousands of his own country's citizens who have been murdered in America as a result of guns. Nor their families left behind. Nor the communities forever affected. What about all the innocent kids killed in school shooting after school shooting? Oh wait they weren't some "influencer" on Instagram with a stack of followers so they don't matter. No posts in the RIP thread for them after they were massacred in cold blood :whistle. Over 40,000 Americans die each year from gun-related deaths. More than 15,000 per year are murdered. All in the name of his "god-given rights" ::).
FFS, his murder was especially barbaric given where the bullet hit him in the neck, and he didn't deserve to be harmed at all let alone die. But don't pretend he was some "hero" or "martyr" to be admired. He was, like so many over there are, a core part of the problem. Deliberately fanning toxic cultural war rhetoric for political fame, gain and profit that not only poisons their society but is also now leading to increasingly more political violence over there. So yes, they are stupid American idiots!
-
Not like you to spread misinformation MT. No context with any statement, just pure hate. Proving your initial remarks - you knew nothing of the man.
No one here is admiring him, just not condoning assassinations and we are actually genuine when we say he didn't deserve this. My thoughts are firmly with his family and friends. It truly makes me sad.
I really dislike your paragraphs of hate.

why not share? if those strong views in any way are thinking he helped bring it on himself..
OK. These will be my only comments
1/ His murder is abhorrent. He didn't deserve. As you say it was barbaric, brutal and he didn’t deserve it. No one does. My heartfelt sympathies go to his wife and especially his children.
2/ just because he's a Christian doesn't mean he was a good bloke, a decent bloke.
3/ so please let's not make him out to be some martyr.
4/ despite what the US President said this shouldn't be a left -v- right thing despite him without hesitation making it that way. His hypocrisy knows no bounds. A conservative gets murdered and without any proof it is leftist extremists who did it. Extreme right wingers storm the capital, murder and injure people and they are patriots. Even you AT had to make a comment about the left in your reply to me. Andyy too, posted without any proof it had to be "an extreme leftist " who did it. Surely we can wait to find out and then go whack.
5/ Finally, there was one comment made under the term fact that I vehemently disagree with but I refuse to get into that discussion again
-
Yes WP that's my theory or deduction, which is why I said 'to me this is...'
I'm not stating it as fact, per se.
But I'm comfortable saying that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...
I guess I'd be surprised if it was someone who identifies as a conservative!

You're wrong on this one MT.
I would encourage you to just listen to him and not what one side has said what he has said.
Listen to one of his prove me wrong college campus talks.
He asked questions and wanted dissenting opinions to be heard and engaged with.
He didn't "hate" or preach hate.
As Christians we are called to love our enemies and pray for them. You might not like Christian's and think it's ridiculous to believe in a sky daddy but should we label you as a hate monger of "Christians" because you don't like what we believe?
I don't think one should be labeled as a hater or nazi or racist just because there is an opposing view.
One thing that Charlie shouldn't be accused of is a hypocrit. He lived as a Christian man, father and a husband. He practiced what he preached and hasn't ever been in trouble with the law.
He dropped out of college and started turning point USA and wanted to encourage dialogue. The colleges in the USA are very left leaning and progressive. He was willing to go there and bring a table and ask questions and foster discussion. He wasn't great when he started and he didn't have the microphones and cameras he did when he grew in popularity.
He never preached hate. He fostered dialogue and encouraged anyone with an opposite view to speak first.
Why don't you spend some time and listen to one full change my mind gigs he did on those college campuses. Some are more than an hour long and just listen.
Anyone can rip off sound bites on any side of politics.
Cenk Uygur from the Young Turks a very progressive political show had very kind words to say about Charlie and politically they didn't agree on almost anything.
I think your way off on this and if you've never heard of him or heard him maybe making comments probably wasn't your best decision.
-
typical lefty comments here. :lol :lol
I wont comment, but.......
I never heard of him but.....
I have to say i dont think i ever heard of this guy but it doesnt change anything. His thoughts from what i have heard are extremely accurate.
The exception is the abortion one via rape. I do believe woman have a right to choose here but that is me.
What this does do is ensure the Republican Party will continue in power for years to come.

Question 1) I think if the person that shot him did it because of his political or Christian views then what else could he be but a "political" or "religious" martyr?
The Cambridge dictionary.
"a person who suffers very much or is killed because of their religious or political beliefs, and is often admired because of it"
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/martyr
In point 2 you state that just because he was a Christian doesn't mean he is a good bloke or a decent bloke.
That statement is probable true about me. No doubt about that because unlike Charlie I have many flaws and they are front and centre and I'm not really a decent or good bloke.
I also didn't start a political organisation for college students when I was 18 nor did I go to hostile places like college campuses to discuss my differing opinions.
Why isn't he a good or decent bloke? Has he shot anyone? Has he ever broke a law? Is he disrespectful to others? Has he caused anyone to be shot or killed? Did he not encourage dialogue?
Has he encouraged anyone to be killed for having a differing opinion? Is he calling all who disagree with him a right wing nazi fascist? Is he a Christian that practices what he preaches? Or did he live out his Christianity as a testimony to others? Has he stabbed someone on a train? Has he stolen? Did he commit armed robbery? Was he a coward that wouldn't back up his own statements?
Question 2 is he NOT a "good" or "decent" bloke just because he has a differing views as yours?
I don't really like or agree with Cenk Uyghur from the Young Turks but I think he's probably a decent bloke. Why? He's a family man and has built a successful political news network and he's a law abiding citizen that contributes to society to try to make it better. He's been very consistent in his life up until now. I don't agree with him at all but I don't think I can say he's not a decent or good bloke especially if I've never met him in person.

A very good response from Burnie Sanders who I don't politically agree with much at all but a very good response by him.

What misinformation? There is this thing called the internet you know. What I quoted is verbatim and in context. In the same speech he tried to equate the high total of gun murders to car accidents ::). He of course spewed out the usual deluded American answer of more armed guards and blaming fatherless kids.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/fact-check-charlie-kirk-once-205500283.html
You can dislike what I said all you want. I will never accept the high number of gun homicides in America and especially the killing of kids in school shooting after school shooting as an acceptable "cost". That's sick! Those that do, and that also stand in the way of even the simplest of gun control measures (eg: federal firearm registry) to reduce the massacres, are no believers in a free civil society.

Listen to one of his prove me wrong college campus talks.

I actually have in the last few days. The problem is his views are no different to other American religious conservatives. You know what they are going to say before they say it because it's nothing original and it's the same regurgitated phrases others have said ad nauseum for years. And yes while unlike other conservatives he at least didn't hide away in conservative media, these prove me wrong sessions weren't debating experts. Little first year uni students who are nervous and unprepared are easy prey for grifters with well-rehearsed tropes. His Turning Point youtube channel also has typical mocking titles like something out of Sky-After-Dark which is a turn off. Anyway, the only two videos I watched that I found interesting was firstly the one with articulate pro-2A bloke who at least argued for the bare minimal federal gun registration. If there was more of his kind it would offer hope of change when right now there is none. The other video was at Cambridge University where Kirk actually had to debate someone knowledgeable in sociology and his insular little evangelical worldview got totally exposed.
He didn't "hate" or preach hate.
As Christians we are called to love our enemies and pray for them. You might not like Christian's and think it's ridiculous to believe in a sky daddy but should we label you as a hate monger of "Christians" because you don't like what we believe?

I think your way off on this and if you've never heard of him or heard him maybe making comments probably wasn't your best decision.
Show me where I said I don't like Christians? I have time for real ones who show compassion for all, especially the less fortunate and the outcast. Unlike these fake evangelical grifters that try to dress up their political social conservative fundamentalism as being morally superior to everyone else while hypocritically adoring adulterers and having open hatred of those that are simply born different. They are no followers of Je-sus' teachings - "do unto others as you would want them to do upon you". I had 13 years of Catholic education you know. It comes in handy now as I know these frauds are spinning unChristian BS. Also, once they cross the line separating Church and State and want to impose their warped religious beliefs on the rest of us then these warped beliefs become fair game.
Most of my family were working class Catholics. They didn't hate and blame immigrants. They didn't hate gays and transgender people and accuse them of being a "mental delusional minority" - Kirk's own words by the way. They didn't hold medieval beliefs such as a woman's place is soley in the home as a servant to their husband. Marriage instead was/is a partnership based on love, trust and mutual respect; not slavery. They certainly would never tell 14 year old girls interested in going to University to get a "MRS" degree (be a housewife) instead of an actual uni degree :facepalm.
Of course, it's easy for these political grifters backed by billionaires to accuse colleges/universities of being a "scam". Yeah, how dare working class people achieve more & better opportunities ::). Conservatives at least in past generations valued formal education even if they limited it to themselves. Now they despise it because it doesn't affirm but instead challenges their hardcore religious dogma.
ps. Just on your last sentence Tigeritis, just because an "influencer" is supposedly left-wing doesn't make it any better. Political discourse has been dumbed down and trivialised thanks to social media and its "influencers". The mainstream media deserve a whack too.

If a Richmond thread in Australia shows division relating him
Imagine what he was causing in the states

I do get your fair point Damo. Although, some of us do work long hours on a Monday.
The crowd at the Manchester Derby stood for a minute's applause in tribute to Hatton.

46 is way way too young. Society still has to do better to help those suffering with mental health issues.

Apologies Damo but I know very little about boxing. So I will confess I'd never heard of him

Agree
As a baseball nuffy I did enjoy "The Natural" even though he was a tad bit to old for the part
And just a personal choice but I reckon "the Horse Whisperer" is incredibly underrated.

Ohhh ... that's sad. 'Norm' was head of the ORCS when I joined up in the early 80's. He always had time for people, knew everybody in the ORCS by name. Richmond through & through ... :clapping
