Any interest in the below offerings mentioned so far as possibly changing clubs in either the trade week or the PSD (if they're still available at pick 5)?
Adelaide: Fergus Watts
Brisbane: Brad/Chris Scott, Beau McDonald
Carlton: Brendan Fevola, Lance Whitnall, Matthew Lappin
Collingwood: Richard Cole, Brayden Shaw, Jason Cloke, Shane Woewodin, Ryan Lonie
Essendon: Marc Bullen, Sam Hunt, Mark Alvey
Fremantle: Graham Polak, Gilmore
Geelong: James Bartel
Hawthorn: Jonathan Hay
Kangaroos: Daniel Motlop, Shannon Grant
Melbourne: Clint Bizzell
Port Adelaide: Byron Pickett
St Kilda: Brendan Goddard?
W.Bulldogs: Sam Power, Jade Rawlings.
West Coast: Daniel McConnell, Andrew McDougall
-
Adelaide: Fergus Watts - He likes to drink and party too much from what i've heard, and i believe its true considering his younger brother and a lot of his mates are the same way (seen it first hand! :thumbsup)
Brisbane: Brad/Chris Scott - Both too old.
Carlton: Brendan Fevola, Lance Whitnall, Matthew Lappin - No, no and no.
Collingwood: Richard Cole, Brayden Shaw, Jason Cloke, Shane Woewodin - No, maybe, maybe, no.
Essendon: Marc Bullen, Sam Hunt - No and yes.
Fremantle: Graham Polak - Cost too much to acquire, no.
Geelong: James Bartel - We'd have to give up something special to get him, no.
Kangaroos: Daniel Motlop - Wants to be closer to the NT, thats why his leaving Kangas.
Melbourne: Adam Yze - NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Port Adelaide: Byron Pickett - Too old.
St Kilda: Brendan Goddard - I like him, a lot of people dont, wouldn't want to give up too much for him though.
W.Bulldogs: Nathan Eagleton - No.
West Coast: Daniel McConnell - Yes.
-
James Bartel would be the only one I would be interested in.
Depends on what he is after $$$ and commitment wise. In this day and age you would like to build a loyal list ala Brisbane the last few years, making a sacrifice so as to play as a team in the finals. You don't need mercenaries that chase the $ - would not be good for moral.
As for the rest, I can see why their clubs dont want them :lol - Build our own team and chase maybe 1 big trade / swap.
-
Added Shannon Grant, Jonathan Hay and possibly Luke Power to the above list.
We all know most of these contractual disputes are worked out in time and usually there's only 1or 2 big names up for grabs each year, but with pick 5 in the PSD it would be handy for us if a number of players are still wanting to change clubs. It's a shame last year when we had first pick there was no top quality players such as a Gehrig or Hamill on offer.
-
What are you talking about MT, we got Knobel, his a gun! :thumbsup
-
Collingwood: Richard Cole, Brayden Shaw, Jason Cloke, Shane Woewodin
I reckon young Shaw would be worth considering - only because he was a stand out junior and Tezza always says you don't lose your ability just your confidence (look at Pettifer ;D) Cole - they'd want too much and I don't reckon he is worth very much. As for Jason Cloke - :banghead nope and poor old Woewoewoefuldin - over rated NOOOOOOOOOOOOO ;D
Geelong: James Bartel
Would love him but Geelong would want a 1st round pick for him and he isn't worth pick 8 IMHO. And I reckon the Cats would be difficult to deal with after the Otten$ deal of last year - seeing we got the better of that deal ;D
Throw in Salopek from Port Adelaide - I reckon we could swing a deal for this kid
-
Forgot about Steven Salopek WP. I've added him and Mark Alvey to the above list.

Knobel is a gun compared to who I've just been told may be coming to Punt Road :help.

Who's the 192cm defender and what do we give up?
-
No way we will pick up Alvy he is a hack. Two clubs, bad knee, no games, too old.
Is this from a reliable source MT?
Luke Power would be worth a first round draft pick. Would really compliment our midfield and can rotate thround the forward line interchanging with N. Brown, was a great goal sneak with the Lions originally.
-
Mt, just heard a rumour, Alvey and Hunt for 3rd rounder, is this what you are referring to?

I wasn't told what we're giving up for them but yep they are the two Razor :banghead. On the bombers forum bomberblitz I've read our 3rd rounder for Hunt rumour.

I couldn't agree more about Alvey HT but the source is normally on the money 9 times out of 10.
We finally get a draft right last year and now it looks like we're going to stuff it again this year chasing fringe AFL/VFL duds who couldn't get a game in the worst Essendon side for over 25 years. Not happy Jan! >:(
-
Agree on Alvey.
Hunt is interesting though, young defender (23 in April) and i've constantly heard bombers supporters say he should be given more of a go (this is going back to 2004 even).
Apparently Sheedy has it out for him.
-

Hunt has been around since 2001. So he's spent 5 years on an AFL list yet has only played 7 games in total (3 in 2002 and 4 this year). It's just a dumb trade all-round for us. They'll both be delisted anyhow so we could get Hunt with a late pick (i.e. for practically nothing) if we really wanted to. If this goes through Sheeds will be quietly chuckling to himself over pulling another swifty.
-
I have heard whispers about Alvey too - :banghead :banghead :banghead
No no no >:(

Why would you bother trading for them if there is a massive chance they'll be delisted. Gotta say that doesn't make sense to me
-
Aker spilled the beans on Before The Game that Luke Power is leaving the Lions as there's a conflict between Power and Matthews and he wants to come back to Victoria.
The club of course he's linked to is Collingwood ::) because he's best mates with Caracella. It wouldn't be the pre-trade period without a big name being linked to the Pies and then them failing to get him when it matters ;D.
-
Brissy will trade no matter what, methinks Pick 5 gets put on the table no matter what, plus something else.
Maybe he will be involved in a much larger trade, personally i see a ridiculously huge and complicated trade going down this year involving a LOT of clubs!
................or we could trade for him, but what with?
-
Don't fear MT, i will create another Crazy Trade idea thread involving us getting Power, just let me think (smoke crack :shh) and come up with something realistic that involves up getting him! :rollin :lol
-
Salopek is off the market.
North want Hay and the Swans are chasing Everitt to replace Jason Ball. The Hawks are asking for a wooden spoon next year if they trade Everitt away. North under Laidley still remind me of us prior to 2004 in giving away early draft picks for a quick fix.
In the paper they also had Polak saying he wants to stay in WA even though there's talk that he may be heading east.
-
Sheedy has said today he may trade the Bombers first pick for a very good midfielder.
Anyone told him about Tivs. If Cole's worth a first rounder then so is Tivs ;D.
-

Not a big fan of Razor WP ;D.
Any interest here in any of these young out of contract Lions who might be squeezed out due to Brisbane's tight salary cap - Troy Selwood, Daniel Merrett, Dylan McLaren, Joel Macdonald and Michael Rischitelli ?

The young Lions come from a fantastic football culture but as we know that doesn't make you a good player.
Selwood - For me no he is limited as a player will only ever be a third string onballer, Merrett - Yes, BIG young could be anything. The Lions won't let him go. McLaren - NO hack, McDonald - Maybe has had some good games 2005, Rischitelli - No very limited.
-
Troy Selwood - Don't know much about him, however we don't need anymore 187cm+ midfielders.
Daniel Merrett - I like him, big, tall, athletic, the fact that his originally from QLD worries me, and Brisbane would ask for more then his worth to get him.
Dylan McLaren - Don't need another ruckmen, and he sucks anyway.
Joel Macdonald - Another tallish midfielder, from QLD, don't know a lot about him though.
Michael Rischitelli - Originally from Melbourne, wing player, would be interested, but depends on what Brisbane ask for.
-
Not a big fan of Razor WP ;D.
Actually I've become a bit of fan MT having been one of his harshest critics. I only put his name up because he is one player on our list that actually has reasonable amount of trade value now because of his improvement in 2005.

Yeah he does have good trade value but unless we could immediately replace him at CHB via a trade or PSD then we'd have to rely on a aging Gas and Chubba plus possibly Schulz to do all the key defending roles. One injury and we'd be stuffed. With Graham retired, losing two tall (average) defenders in one hit would be a massive loss unless we're prepared to hit bottom again and draft a few young key backmen.

I'd be keen to trade Hall.
Two questions I'm asking myself...
1. Is Ray Hall ever going to be a premiership centre half back? Almost certainly not.
2. Is Ray Hall's market value going to get any higher than it is now? Quite possibly not.
I reckon we should definitely test the water.

Agree with you there Jake.
I was just saying on offloading Hall that unless we recruit a ready-made tall replacement or get a dream run in terms of no injuries to Gas, Chubba or Schulz then Tigers supporters should have low expectations for 2006 and even 2007. The positive side from such a deal is two top 10 picks which we can use to draft two quality young KPPs this year plus another couple in the potentially far stronger 2006 draft if we as a result of having a makeshift backline finish bottom 4 next year.
-
ray hall has played a couple of handy games but seriously he is a very overrated bafoon and clutz who always runs with blinkers on
-
SEN last night were doing a run down of trade talk at each club. They ran out of time so will be doing the Tiges tonight.
Shannon Grant and Bartel look like staying at their clubs. The Blues want to keep Whitnall but are happy for Fevola to go. Everitt is now the latest big name linked to the Pies ::). The only other names mentioned were Ryan Lonie, Cole, Cupido, Heffernan and Ben Holland... Pass! Sounds like another poor PSD is on the cards :-\.
-
Reported in the Herald Sun today that Essendon are interested in trading Andrew Welsh for Tivendale.
I would take that in a flash, Welsh could provide the tough back pocket player we need and allow Newman to develop into a run with midfielder.

Answer to 1: not unless he moves to a non-Victorian team;
Answer to 2: yes it can, by having another good year, though if he did you probably wouldn't trade him
I would tend to hang on to him. But I would understand if he wants to go to a club that has a prospect of winning a premiership - and there's only six of those.

I'm with you guys. Where do we sign?! lol.
Welsh has just re-signed as X mentioned so it's probably all crap.
Sheedy might be a big wrap for Tivs but the bomber fans are doing their nut on the bomberblitz forum over him :rollin.

In the EOTT section of the RFC website there is article by Greg Miller about trade week and the upcoming draft - interesting reading.
From that article and this caught me eye:
We’ll upgrade our two rookies (Nathan Foley and Will Thursfield), which will leave us with 3-4 choices in the National Draft.
Glad to see Foley and Thursty get a gig on the senior list :thumbsup
-

;)
Foley and Thursty replace Cambo and Graham. Rory, Morrison and Archibald's delistings brings our senior list down to 35. So that means 3 choices in the National draft and no PSD. We would need to trade for a pick, delist another player or push Richo onto the Veterans' list to have 4 choices or 3 choices + 1 PSD pick. Sounds like we may pass on the PSD.

In the same article Greg Miller says 3-4 pics in the national draft but also mentions that we have a spare spot on our list for a 5th choice - though I must admit I couldn't work that one out

-
Would that be Gas onto the Vet list as well as Richo ???
Hmmm I forgot Gas is eligible for the veterans next year....
Interesting times ahead next week I reckon
-
We went into this season with a spare spot on the senior list, so thats 1.
Campbell and Graham retiring makes 3.
Hilton, Archi and Morro delisted makes 6.
Will and Foley promoted makes 4.
So we will have 4 draft picks, and for the time being not a single rookie.
-
SEN's trade talk tonight don't expect us to anything next week. They say only Tivs has been mentioned and is linked to a few clubs but we're fairly keen to keep him :-\.
In other news Fiora might be off again to a new club possibly in SA as part of a Fergus Watts exchange.
Ryley Dunn at Freo who was the 10th pick in the 2003 draft may want to do a Fergus Watts and return to Victoria. He's twice broken his collarbone in 2004 though.
-
We went into this season with a spare spot on the senior list, so thats 1.
To my knowledge I don't think we had a spare spot as such (it's compulsory now to fill all 38 senior list spots) but if we had put Cambo as a veteran off the senior list and onto the veterans' list then we would have had to pick up another player last year. So in that sense we had a spare spot available.
This year Richo and Gas are eligible for veteran status so depending on our finances and our TPP (staying above the minimum 92.5%) we could have up to 40 players (senior list + veterans list) + up to 4 rookies if we wanted to.
I'd rather we do the same as 2005 and stick with 38 including Richo and Gas on the senior list with one as a veteran and try to pick up 3 rookies at least given it's a weak draft. Picking up more kids with late picks in the National draft in 2 months time on 2-year contracts at approx. $125k would limit our choices in the 2006 draft which is meant to be a blinder. Rookies are cheaper at $35k per year and don't take up senior list spots.

Trade options at your club
30 September 2005
Herald Sun
Mark Stevens, Scott Gullan, Damian Barrett and Jon Anderson
RICHMOND
WHERE THEY'RE AT
Still rebuilding under Terry Wallace so focus again expected to be on finding good kids. Unlikely to give up pick No.8 unless for a blockbuster deal.
IN THE MIX
Rival clubs have inquired about Andrew Krakouer and Greg Tivendale so something could happen there. Rory Hilton and Shane Morrison's days at Punt Rd are over so they will be looking for a lifeline next week.
WHO THEY WANT
Have been linked to Carlton star Brendan Fevola with Wallace dreaming of a forward structure involving Fev in the square, Nathan Brown beside him in the pocket and Matthew Richardson at centre half-forward. A hard nosed small defender such as Essendon's Andrew Welsh is also on the wish list.
WHAT'S LIKELY
Always seemed to get involved this time of year with Wallace definitely a coach who believes in reviving careers with fresh starts. Doubt whether have salary cap room to go for big name.
DRAFT PICKS: 8, 24, 40, 56, 72, 88.
Essendon - WHO THEY WANT
Anyone with pace. Richmond's Greg Tivendale has been linked in a deal for Welsh.
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,16763724%255E19742,00.html
-
Don't know what else we could give the Dons for Welsh, Tivendale by himself won't do it.
-
The article just appears to be a rehash of all the trade rumours that have been going around for weeks.
If we were the Bombers would we trade Welsh for Tivs on form this year? Nup!
Doubt whether have salary cap room to go for big name.
Our finances will dictate if we have room for a big name not our salary cap. Sheesh we're paying 94% of the salary cap at the most. Apparently Richo wasn't made a veteran this year even though he was eligible because halving his salary would of dipped us below the minimum TPP of 92.5%. There's plenty of room under the cap which is a first in a long while.
-
Sportal premium says Welsh for our picks 24 + 40 is rumoured ???.
It's a paid service so I don't know what else they say for Richmond. This was posted on bomberblitz.
-
Sunday HUN (october 2nd 2005) says on page 42 that "Essendon has declared Andrew Welsh off limits".
In Palmer's Punchline on page 46 Scotty says "Discount speculation that Richmond will offer up improved Andrew Krakouer as a trade - it wont' happen" and regarding Greg Stafford" "Verteran ruckman and new dad Greg Stafford is mulling over whether to accept the one year contract on the table at Richmond or follow Wayne Campbell into retirement. Coach Terry Wallace will need an answer fairly soon but expects Stafford will play on" (page 46 2/10/05 Sunday HUN)
Have to say that I wouldn't mind Ryan O'Keffe from the Swans if was to become available
-
The Herald-Sun again mentioned Tivs for Welsh. I can't believe this story has legs when nearly everyone is dismissing it. Robert Shaw, former bomber assistant coach, was on SEN yesterday and didn't believe it.
It's interesting the only ones not to come about and say it's crap are Essendon themselves ???.

Elsewhere, Essendon offered up Ted Richards and Mark Bolton to Richmond for the Tigers' first selection in the national draft, No. 8, but were rebuffed.

I dont think Tigers and Bombers are going to get to far with trades after last years effort and the Miller Sheedy love affair - LMAO :lol

Miller must hold his nerve. If he does he'll be getting the vaseline out on Friday and doing to the blues what he did to the pussies last year...Hold your nerve Greg and then go Bang! We dont need to cough up 8 for Fevola...24 and Hall should do it at about 1pm on Friday :D :cheers

In other news, Tivs may be heading off to the Roos.

Kangaroos are topping up big time!
Give them 3-5 years and they will be at the bottom of the ladder!
-
Kangaroos are topping up big time!
Give them 3-5 years and they will be at the bottom of the ladder!
Too right Razor.
Laidley went to the Geischen/Frawley school of recruiting. If this Hay deal goes through they'll again give up their first 2 picks after Nathan Thompson last year. Apart from Jesse Smith they will have not picked up any top kids in 2 years. Recruiting suicide! The Roos will be in the same mess as we were/are with a big hole in their list.
At the other end of madness the Hawks are trying to become a AFL U21's side if they trade away both Hay and Everitt. Sheesh they'll have picks 3,6,13,14 and 29 plus whatever they get from Sydney for Everitt! :o If their fanatical youth policy comes off Clarkson will be labelled a genius but I'm not sure how their kids ae meant to learn good footy habits getting pumped by 10 goals every single week. Seems the Hawks are going to tank 2006 to deliberately get a priority pick for the third year in a row ::).
-
Laidley seems to have that small time mentality that the Roos cannot afford to bottom out or they risk losing ground on the rest of the comp. They are backed by the AFL, so I’m not sure why the panic stations and there’s more chance of them going backwards the way they’re going about things anyway. Not that they’ve woken up to that yet, MT.
There are mixed messages coming out of Hawthorn. On one hand they’re trying to develop a good environment and culture for the players and on the other they seem to disenfranchise any player over the age of 23. :-\ Seems a bizarre way to go about developing a list.

hawks are stuffed, u cant develop young kids without experienced guys around them setting an example and leading teh way, a team cant be lop sided either way u need balance, basically and ideally every yr 2-4 players leave and 2-4 will come in without disrupting team balance and make up,
but the hawks , and roos both have no idea from one extreme to another. 1st well done to the haks 2 first rnd picks 4 a dud in my book, and the roos gave up 2 1st rnd picks 4 this dud! now there is no guarantee the 2 kids the hawks may pick up will develop, history shows not all draft picks actually become champions
-
Yeah but when you have as many as the Hawks do, you are almost guaranteed to get a champion or two out of them!
-

in idea who 4 mt, or is it part of a 4 way 5 way deal to get fev???

Don't know who for X. As a guess a pick or maybe a Daniel Harris or Hamish McIntosh?
-
Harris or McIntosh would cost a lot more then Tivs.
Apparently Harris and Laidley don't get along though, so who knows!
-
Although delistings aren't finalised yet, who do guys think we will now go after in the PSD?
The Bombers want Scott Camporeale while the Hawks probably will go after a ruckman or full back. That would leave only the Blues and Pies' picks ahead of us.
Some of the names talk about:
Shane Woewodin
Brett Montgomery
Brayden Shaw
Daniel Gilmore (according to 6PR on BF)
Kasey Green
Travis Gaspar
Dylan McLaren
Beau McDonald
Troy Selwood and Matthew Lappin look like staying put at their respective clubs.
-
Brayden Shaw
It is in one of today's papers - Shaw is going to the pre-season with Melbounre in the hope of being drafted by them
-
Add Cupido and Alvey to that list

Brayden Shaw
It is in one of today's papers - Shaw is going to the pre-season with Melbounre in the hope of being drafted by them
I've heard that aswell, also saw it on bigfooty.
-
Gilmore or Green for us
-
Gilmore or Green for us
I didn't realise Green was already 26 y.o. so I rather go for the younger Gilmore who turns 23 in March if he quits Freo. They are both roughly the same size. Gilmore could possibly also solve our back-pocket/small defender problem.
Wallace offloaded Montgomery in a swap for Eagleton didn't he when he was coach of the Doggies?
-
And the PSD becomes weaker by the day :(.
The way it's going we might as well pass and save the money if there's nobody semi-decent left at pick 5 :-\.
-
Freo's Daniel Gilmore has re-signed as well.

In yesterday's Age (Sat 29/10/05) it says that Brent Guerra has been de-listed by the Saints.
At 23, with 60 odd games and a fair bit of mongrel in him should the Tigers look at him ???

IMO Guerra is Byron Pickett without the pace and foot skills. He can regularly shirtfront opponents but he'll only ever play in a pocket or off the bench as he's too slow to play midfield. His field kicking is ordinary although he knows where the goals are. Port and now the Saints have delisted him because he's only a fringe player.
-
Port traded him, they didn't delist him.
I like his type of player, aggresive, no nonsense, although im not a fan of his hitman tendencies!
In a perfect world i'd like to have him on our list, but, we have a lot higher priorities then his type of player!
-
Port traded him, they didn't delist him.
my bad. You're right Razor - Port got pick 39 for him. I heard from my Dad (Port supporter) at the time that the Power wanted to offload him anyway as Guerra would do well at SANFL level but rarely showed anything in the AFL.
At the Saints he got a handful of bags especially in 2004 (7 against the Eagles) with a decent return of 29 from 18 for that year but over his 96 game career he's averaged only 8 possessions and less than a goal a game. This year he really struggled.
-
bruno could be a handy player 4 us. he was never really given a fair go , and we are the weakest team in the afl by a mile so having a player with his balls in the team can only help. i say if no other better player is on offer take him on a one yr contract

Davidson was cut because of injury while the others mostly played at VFL/SANFL/WAFL level. I mistakenly had Paul Thomas on the above list but he was retained by the Dons.
Is it more worth our while passing on our PSD pick and selecting more rookies rather than picking up someone who'll spend their time playing for Coburg? The cost of a senior listed player is 4-5 times that of a rookie.
Of the four picks before ours, McLaren and Camporaele you would think will be two gone. Kasey Green will probably be another. Not much of a choice left :-\.
-
Davidson, Hunt, Vanshaik and Gilham would all quality for the rookie list methinks, maybe not the first two?
I was suprised the Dee's gave Vanschaik the stuff after 1 year, i heard he had done ok.
He was very highly rated as a 16yo junior then the poor guy done his knee!
-

As a young ruckman maybe the knee has affected his ability to jump.
Yeah Davidson and Hunt turn 23 early next year so that knocks them out as far as a rookie spot goes. Gilham at 21 is another injury-plagued youngster - 10 week groin injury then a AC joint injury.
-
Matthew Lappin has re-signed with the Blues for 2 years: http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=235840
And to the relief of many of us lol, Ben Haynes has agreed to 2-year deal at West Adelaide: http://www.westies.com.au/detail.htm
-
He has agreed to a 2 year deal-conditional that he doesnt get picked up in draft.
Also has a job organised as well if he doesnt get drafted ;)

When your 203cm you don't really need to worry about jumping, just ask David Fanning, lol!
I had a ? over Gilham as i didn't know much about him, besides he was a late 1st rounder in 2002.
His about 190-192cm i think, so thats an inbetween height, and with an injury history things dont really fair well for him as far as an AFL career goes!
-
The AFL site has no non-RFC players training with us: http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=236073
But it's been rumoured on BF that the following three might be. Can any of you guys confirm?
They sound more like potential Coburg players with Andy Collins crossing over from Box Hill.
Alastair Neville (Box Hill)
Age:19
Height:187cm
Weight:82kg
Previous Football Clubs:Oakleigh Chargers, Old Trinity
Preferred position: Ruck rover, half back stuff
Football achievements/awards: VAFA U/23 State team 2004, VAFA Senior State Team 2004, All Australian Amateur Team of the Year 2004, Oakleigh Chargers vice captain 2003, Victoria Metro U/18 vice captain 2003
Cam Howat (Box Hill)
Preferred position: Wing
Harold Calma (Wanderers NT)
D.O.B: 2 January 1986 (Age: 19)
Height: 173cm
Weight: 70kg
-
Neville has been mentioned a fair few times on the Richmond bigfooty board, infact i think they have a thread asking about him and Weaver, who knows his poo, had a bit to say about him.
Apparently he trained with us a season or two ago aswell?
Never heard of Howat, and Calma played a few games at Coburg this year, IIRC he had a BOG in his 1st game with the reserves.
-
Todays Herald Sun says that Ben Haynes and Mark Bulleen will be training with us as of next week.
Have been told by a very reliable source at the Bombers that Haynes is ok physically but has a mental problem in that its all about Ben Haynes and not the team. This person thinks that Haynes could be "Anything" if he put his mind to it.
As for Bulleen, i think he is ok but probably not want we need for our team at the moment.
-
Haynes does have SOME talent but the mindset isn't there, that and his 24, so no thanks.
Everytime the name Bulleen comes up so does the word "dud", but i can't say i've ever seen him play.
His bombers profile is here: http://bombersfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=players&spg=playerprofile&personid=13208
"Had a good start to the 2004 season but, after missing two games with a calf injury, struggled to find consistency. Played 17 games and at times looked an outstanding prospect. A midfielder, he has the ability to be a run-with player, but his excellent skills suggest he could become the type of free-flowing winger Essendon desperately needs."
Sounds like Wallace's type of player.
Can anyone tell me more about him?
-
Someone needs to tell West Adelaide about Ben Haynes lol. On their website they claim to have snared him on a 2-year deal ???
As for Bulleen - pass. He was on the Bombers list for 5 years and hasn't come on since 2003 when he was rising star nominee. IMO Bulleen is just an average footballer.
Both aren't what we need.
-
I think that you will find that Haynes would have a line in his contract with West Adelaide that says he can terminate if drafted by an AFL club. Otherwise he will be playing there.
You might also find that he has a job lined up with Coke a Cola if he heads over :shh
-
I know there a couple of Coburg boys that will be doing the pre-season with Richmond - this was announced at the Coburg B&F (I am sure I posted about it).
One was Jarrad Sylvester and I think another maybe Robbie Young but I am not as sure on that one ;D.
Sylvester I reckon would be a possible rookie for us - very good skills but not as strong as he would need to be through the hips or shoulders
-
Here's their size stats:
Jarrod Sylvester
D.O.B: 12/12/85
Height: 193cm
Weight: 90kg
Previous Club: Calder Cannons
Robert Young
D.O.B: 21/03/85
Height: 197cm
Weight: 89kg
Previous club: Oakleigh Chargers
-
Isn't Sylvester ridiculously skinny?
Didn't Young train with us last pre-season?
-
From the RFC site:
Miller confirmed that Richmond would have three definite selections in the National Draft on November 26, with one other spot on the playing list available, to be filled either via the National Draft or the pre-season Draft.
“There are many options open to us and we’re exploring all those options,” he said.
“Currently training with the Club we have Ben Haynes and Mark Bullen from Essendon, James Rimington, Robert Young and Jarrod Silvester from Coburg, and Alastair Neville and Cam Howatt from Box Hill. Other players will join us at training before the pre-season and rookie drafts.”
Miller is confident the Tigers can snare a future star with their first choice (pick No. 8 overall) in the National Draft.
“We think there will be match-winners at that choice and we feel that we’ve done the necessary homework to be able to select a very, very good player for the Club.
“Likewise, at choice 24, we still believe that the depth of the draft will be strong. And, perhaps our ‘smokey’ may come at pick 40 if things fall our way.
“In any event, we’re excited to be able to add Patrick Bowden to our list, three National Draft choices, and, as I mentioned, maybe one more player.”
http://richmondfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=236397
We'll also have 2-3 choices in the rookie draft.
-
Miller wanted to rookie Rimington last year, he is a "miller project", so it is highly likely he'll be given a go!
-
Isn't Sylvester ridiculously skinny?
Not really. 90kgs for a bloke 193cm would make him Mark Graham size. Although I must admit I didn't think watching him play for Coburg this year that he was that tall
-
Well Graham wasn't exactly a tank!
He played in defense right? I'm sure his a skinny runt!
-
Eade said - "We think Kasey Green is committed to someone".
http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2005/11/08/1131407634624.html
I wonder if that means us?
Going by the Age the day before they had the PSD going like this:
1. Carlton - Dylan McLaren
2. Pies - ?
3. Hawthorn - Brent Guerra?
4. Essendon - Scott Camporeale
5. Richmond - ?
-
I was hoping we'd opt out of the PSD and take a youngster in the national draft
-
I was hoping we'd opt out of the PSD and take a youngster in the national draft
If we don't use our PSD pick then we have to use the very late pick 72 in the National draft.
-
Any takers for a 25 year old Michael Stevens in the PSD?
Sports Tonight last night said he has quit the Roos.
Played 40 games in the last 2 years - http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerStats.asp?PlayerID=630
Guernsey Number: 12
Height 179cm
Weight: 80 kg
Debut: 1999
Date of Birth: 7 November 1980
Recruited From: Tatura/Murray U18/Port Adelaide
-
Hey MT, do we have to use our PSD Pick?
-
We dont have to have a pick in the PSD, we could draft 4 players in the national draft and fill up our list if we want to.
Will be interesting to see which way they go.
-
Hey MT, do we have to use our PSD Pick?
As Bully said we can draft 4 players in the National draft instead. Mind you our 4th pick isn't until #72. We didn't take pick 59 off the dogs for Paddy Bowden so me thinks we'll pass and use our PSD instead. If we were to use pick #72 it wouldn't be used on a kid.
Draft nominations close at 2pm today with the second List Lodgement on Friday. Delisted players have another week to nominate so I'd guess we'll have a better idea of who is available in the PSD then.
Only 10 days to go till the draft.
-
Any takers for a 25 year old Michael Stevens in the PSD?
Sports Tonight last night said he has quit the Roos.
KANGAROOS midfielder Michael Stevens will nominate for this month's AFL national draft after being delisted yesterday.
"He's talking to a couple of clubs at the moment, but I think he's just going to go in the draft and see what opportunities come up," said his brother Anthony, a former Roos captain.
"It was more that they didn't see opportunities for him and didn't offer him a contract."
It is understood Stevens declined an offer to keep training with the Roos leading up to the draft.

Cameron Thurley has left the Cats to go into the draft.
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=237616
D.O.B. 26/11/81 (almost 24)
Height: 181cm
Weight: 76kg
Debut: R7, 2005
Games: 7
Goals: 12
Stats: http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerStats.asp?PlayerID=1565

His a FP, nuff said!
I've seen him play a few games, he'd be worth a go for a team looking for a FP, but we don't need him.
Pass.
Btw, Paul Thomas got the ass from Essendon today, i hope we take a serious look at him!
-

After walking out on AFL footy and 3-years at Old Xavs in the Ammo's under ex-Tiger Barry Richardson he wants to make a comeback - http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2005/11/22/1132421669602.html
Do any of you guys think the Tiges would be interested in Beetham?
-
if we arent we should be with pick 40. a ready made player, who as a midfielder has 10 years infront of him. if hes attitude is right he will make it. I would definately take him at 40 if hes available and its been ascertained that his legit about playing afl footy. Remember Tuck came to us at 22-23 ... so I would take Beetham coz he can play.

Give me Beetham over a Ben Haynes any day.
He was a top 10 pick for a reason - very good footballer rather than athlete. I heard Barry Richardson who coached him this year at Old Xav's on KB's show this morning and he said that in the recent finals Beetham played an entire game on the ball as a ruck rover. Commented that although not the greatest endurance runner (the Tan for example is not his strength) he was still able to play the whole game on the ball because of his footy smarts
Beetham has already shown his footy smarts by leaving the Saints behind ;D
-
I don't really know much about him, a couple of saints fans on BF have indeed reinforced that he is talented, but commitment issues are the biggest query!
Problem is, we all know how Wallace loves his athletes!
-
Problem is, we all know how Wallace loves his athletes!
Well then we can cross Haynes off the list of possible recruits because after watching him this morning he aint no athlete :rollin :rollin
Actually the only thing I reckon Haynes has going for him is the fact the he "ready made" - seeing him stading next to some of younger blokes you can see the difference 3-4 years in the system does in the physical side (body shape) of things
-
Looking for another chance

Whether his attitude and commitment is now all there is the risk. Maybe now he's in his early-mid 20s he's mentally right to face the hefty demands of AFL footy. Playing in only 6 winning sides out of the 37 games over 3 years at the Saints wouldn't of been much fun if footy wasn't numero uno in your life. I never thought anything special of him when he was playing with the Saints but he is alot better prospect than nearly all of those in the above list.
Here's his stats at the Saints: http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerStats.asp?PlayerID=166&SeasonID=ALL
-
I'd take Beetham in a heartbeat over anyone in the AFL draft. This years draft list is not very enticing. It's a bit like going to a bad Greengrocer and trying to decide between a bruised apple and an over ripe Banana. No matter which one you choose, they may look okay on the outside but once you find out whats inside them you end up in a whole world of disappointment.
-
Ty Zantuck, Essendon;
I still cannot believe that Zantuck is training with Brisbane :o :gobdrop

How shocking is the 1999 draft? Pav, Corey are the picks and Fraser, Hasleby and Murphy are in the good category. And Freo, despite their rep for pulling schiit players in the draft didn't do too badly compared to colonwood. Josh Fraser :rollin

A shocking one for us that's for sure long-term :scream - Fiora, Poyas, Homewood, Mills, Zantuck all gone after 5 years. Cameron gave us good service in his last couple of years while Clinton King was useful but a shocking kick and too small.
It's not too bad overall though. A mixture of good and duds. Haselby, Pavlich :(, Corey, Glass and Murphy would walk straight into our top 10 while Fraser, McPharlin and at a long stretch Brown are useful.
Freo are not only ridiculed for their drafting but also giving up good young talent and picks cheaply - Bell, McPhee, Clement. Then it was giving up first pick (Luke Hodge) for Croad only for Croad to return to the Hawks. They also missed out on Lloyd. Earlier this year some guy on BF's mainboard had made a tribute clip to Freo's recruiting taking off the Live 8 ads with celebs clicking their fingers every two seconds - funny stuff ;D.

He ended up making a MUCH better an d funnier one bagging their drafting and recruiting, it got so popular that it caused his site to run out of bandwitch and got mentions on WA radio, apparently.

That is absolutely brilliant :rollin :lol :santa. Simon and Garfunkel's "sound of silence" in the background tops it off. Bloody hilarious :lol.
Thankfully no one has done one on the Tiges. There's over 20 years of material there :-\.

Classic clip! extremely well done! This has given me some inspiration.

If you did one for the past 10 seasons, there is a bit of material there, but we've got nothing on Freo!
Even though he made a couple of mistakes in that clip, he left out mentions of Clement, McPhee and Ottens (We traded Bond and Pick 21 for the 2nd draft pick, which was him).
Freo could of had a really good team years ago, but they stuffed it up by going for the quick fix's instead of a proper building up of the teams list!
Even now they don't have a very balanced list.

From the Age:
By Jake Niall

Consider that at least half-a-dozen clubs — Geelong, Melbourne, West Coast, Fremantle, the Bulldogs and Sydney — will not participate in the pre-season draft and that others have already committed their December lifelines to players who did not nominate yesterday.
Carlton has Dylan McLaren lined up, Hawthorn will select Brent Guerra, the Roos have guaranteed a spot on the list for Geelong's Cameron Thurley. Essendon has done the same for Chris Heffernan, and hopes to for Scott Camporeale.
Collingwood, St Kilda, Port, the Brisbane Lions and the Crows have retained picks and the Kangas have a second slot for some lucky soul. Richmond is undecided, although Greg Miller, uncharacteristically dormant during the trading period, will find it hard to resist grabbing someone.
It's not inconceivable either that a couple of the clubs will use their pre-season spot to draft the best untried youngster still standing, particularly if they sense that they might be gazumped in the rookie draft.
...[Ed. delisted players] are victims of the downsizing of club lists and the fact that clubs are now required to keep players on the senior list for a minimum of two seasons. If you pick a previously listed player, it costs the club more than $50,000, whereas the virgin draftee comes at under $40,000; so, as Don Corleone would say, it's nothing personal, only business.

SHANE Woewodin could know within 48 hours whether, as seems likely, his decorated career is over.
As the situation stood for Woewodin after Saturday's national draft, in which the prospect of being reunited with Melbourne was snuffed out when the Demons drafted Tasmanian Heath Neville with their last pick, his chances rest with either St Kilda, Richmond or Port Adelaide.
But the Tigers are yet to decide whether they will fill the last vacancy on their list.

There is almost no talent in this years PSD pool, pass on the PSD and save the money for another rookie or two
-
yeah but is there someone out there who is uncontracted at the moment, and his club is trying to keep it quiet. Remember Bartel was supposedly signed up 6 weeks ago...in reality signed 2 weeks ago.
-
Unlikely, but i guess possible.

You're right RT regarding the delay in signing blokes - a number of teams this year have been saying "we've finalised all our signings" and then a few weeks later your hear that Player X has re-signed. I am pretty sure there was one like that at North the other week when they said they weren't offering Stevens a new deal.
I am thinking that perhaps we seriously need to look at someone like Sam Hunt (ex Bomber) who is a tall (190+ com) readymade footballer size wise (weight about 90+kgs) in the PSD, give him 1 year ONLY and if doesn't work say see you later at the end of the season. It seems to me we just seem so small down back going into 2006.
-
It makes perfect sense to make a mature defender in the PSD, players like Hunt and Baird fit the bill.

The third and final list lodgement is this Friday at 2pm. So I assume that's when Camporeale or any surprise out-of-contract guys at other clubs need to be sorted out.
Friday 2nd December – 2pm
Third List Lodgement and Total Player Payment estimates
International Rookies Lodged
The PSD is again light on :-\ although with the Blues (McLaren), Hawks (Guerra) and Bombers (Camporeale, Heffernan) already making up their minds apparently, it's only the Pies in front of us in terms of picking up anyone else.
