Knights retires

Talented Richmond forward Chris Knights has announced that he will retire from AFL football at the end of the season.
A series of persistent injuries, which have cruelled the 28-year-old’s time at Tigerland, were the catalyst for his decision.
He told the Club’s playing group of his retirement decision at the ME Centre earlier today.
Knights is the third Richmond player to announce his retirement in as many weeks, following veterans Chris Newman and Nathan Foley.
“It’s a really sad ending for Chris. He has had horrible luck with injuries since he arrived at the Club, and it’s unfair for him to have to bow out in this fashion,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.
“While he spent a lot of time in ‘rehab’, he was a fine role model for the playing group with his determination and professionalism to overcome a number of significant injuries.
“He will be rightly remembered as highly-talented player, who stopped at nothing to get the best out of himself.”

Respect for someone who knows their limitations
Wish I could say the same for others......

Damn shame but agree at least he has been man enough to make the call. Just a pity he couldn't get some games in the easy way like Newman has.
-
And some people thought he wasn't injury prone :lol. Should never have been taken by us and anyone who thinks what he has done is fine but what Newman has done is not is just bitter. At least Newman could get on the park and has been on veterans wage.
-
Good on him. Hope he stays on in a smaller capacity. Top bloke by the look of things.
Shame he won't get an AFL farewell but what can you do?

Bad luck Chris, but thanks for the effort :cheers

Just listened to his retirement speech - brilliant
Said earlier in the year after he spoke at pre-match function, his dedication and commitment to working at trying to get back time and time again was amazing. What ab excellent role model to younger players, could do worse than having as a development coach
Feel for him; that dislocation of his kneecap and the damage it caused was a stuff injury, medicos have said that, then the issues afterwards - not many blokes wouldn't have got back from that
