Bomber Melksham weighing up his options
Callum Twomey September 9, 2015 8:13 AM
Carlisle quits Bombers and asks for trade
OUT-OF-CONTRACT Essendon midfielder Jake Melksham is weighing up his future at the club after struggling to reach top form this year.
AFL.com.au understands the 24-year-old has been recently offered a new two-year deal by the Bombers through to the end of 2017, but is believed to be considering a fresh start elsewhere.
Melksham, who was selected with pick 10 at the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, played 18 games in the Bombers' senior team this season and averaged 16 disposals through the midfield.
His best game came in round two against Hawthorn when he picked up 26 disposals in Essendon's thrilling win, and he has been a regular member of its team since debuting in 2010, playing 114 games.
Melksham's most consistent season came under James Hird in 2013, when he was used in a tagging role and finished fifth in the club's best and fairest.
He couldn't find the same continuity in 2014 under stand-in coach Mark Thompson and played 16 senior games as well as a handful in the VFL.
He is one of up to 15 out-of-contract players at the club whose futures are uncertain after Essendon's season ended with a three-point win over Collingwood last week.
The Bombers are already set for a busy exchange period, after key defender Jake Carlisle confirmed on Tuesday that he would seek a trade, with St Kilda, Carlton and North Melbourne believed to be most interested in acquiring him.
Carlisle joined the Bombers in the same draft as Melksham six years ago as a second-round selection.
Veterans Dustin Fletcher, Paul Chapman and Jason Winderlich have already announced their retirements, but a number of players including Mark Baguley, James Gwilt, Courtenay Dempsey and Brent Stanton are yet to sign on for next season.
The Bombers look set for a larger than usual list overhaul this year after their horror season, but are at least free of the draft penalties that have hindered their ability to trade and delist players in recent seasons.
They hold pick No.4 which, unless shifted by compensation selections, will be their earliest selection in the national draft since they took Scott Gumbleton with No.2 in 2006.

Another bit player, Who needs a Melksham when you already have a Conca!
Pass....
-
Doesnt stand to offer more than a fill up position. Offer him peanuts, if he wants to come for that then I dont mind.
-
Yeah bit of a nothing player. Grigg plays the same role but only better. Peanuts and I'd be okay with it because he could still have some development left in him but meh
-
Massive spud
-
So what size fish is Melksham?
Huge pass from me....
-
Surely your insistent posting about "big fish" is bordering on trolling by now?
-
im serous when i say this, there is no bigger spud in the afl/vfl competetion than this bloke, even hampson is a better option for another 2 years.
-
plus hes a tosser for good measure

There's no bigger flog in the comp than this bloke, but apparently he might have some talent. Like I said, nothing more than peanuts.

Just had a look at the Melksham thread on BB. The term "crap" was used a lot but what made me laugh was when he was described as the Shane Watson of Essendon.
-
Reminder of what an atrocious draft blunder was Gumbleton at #2 .. For all the heat RFC got with Tambling in '04, that was worse IMHO
-
Do not want
-
So what size fish is Melksham?
Huge pass from me....
Melksham is more of a tadpole than a fish

So in the end we'd get a frog?
Ribbit, ribbit :huh3

Unless he's willing to play as a depth player sitting in the VFL, I can't see how we can accommodate Milkshake.
-
PLEASE WHY DO WE EVEN START THIS THREAD?????? :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
so it can evolve into an interweb fact that RFC are interested in a true potato and people can sook to their hearts content about it

Because WAT loves a new thread despite there being threads he could simply post this in
-
Should be a strike for even suggesting it. What an absolute mashed potato this prick is. Has a face you just want to punch too.
-
Truly the worst thread of the year. :thumbsdown
Plays like a spud, has a bonce like a spud.
Why would we even contemplate getting him?

Listen you lot, I didn't write the bloody story, earlier this year some of the complainers about this thread wanted Carlisle....
So get over yourselves and discuss the topic instead of continually trying to revert to baiting me because you have nothing better to say.
This story deserves its own thread so get on with it.
-
why is the story in the richmond section tho? like surely we're not linked with this idiot head?

Because we should be able to have a say on available players that's what a forum is for. How do you know we don't make a play for him???

I know Jakes dad quite well. We are not into him, another club is and have tabled an offer. I can tell you though, we were interested last year and we enquired about him when we went after Winderlich.

Nobody's baiting anyone. The guy is an A - grade bell end and a poot footballer, and drafting him to supposedly improve our best 22 is so far beyond the pale of common sense it's almost insulting to people's intelligence.
Anyways that'd my 2 cents worth. People can say what they like

That's right, it's worth about 2 cents. Is it more insulting to consider Yarren, to me it is but to others it isn't and I appreciate their view.

Wouldn't waste a spot on the rookie on him.
Given in the last few years gems like Miles and Lambert have come from the rookie list.
Melksham should just go down the road from Windy Hill and play for Aberfeldie or Doutta Stars.
-
Melksham is a fool
He's been offered a contract; granted it's with the Bumbling Bombers but he should be grateful that someone wants him and just sign :snidegrin
I wouldn't even put him on our VFL top up list, TBBH

He's not as foolish as you may think. He's been offered a four year contract by the bulldogs. He won't be with the bombers next year.
It maybe the bulldogs who are foolish.

Let's hope he ends up at the Bulldogs or Melb they deserve him..

Melbourne to their fans look to be doing something when really they are doing nothing at all.
