Inside the mind of a Richmond supporter

THIS could be the season.

Just like last season could have been the season.

And the season before that.

We all know a Tigers supporter who has been prematurely icing champagne this time of year for what seems like an eternity, and we fear they’re about to cop heartbreak again.

Using a mix of research and stereotyping, we go in search of the perfect mind map of a long-suffering Tigers fan.

Inside the brain of a typical Richmond supporter.Source:Herald Sun

What research tells us:

Richmond, Cranbourne, Narre Warren

Richmond supporters live mostly in Richmond , Cranbourne and Narra Warren.

They vote Labor.

Tigers fans spend their dough on homewares, decorative goods and love to keep fit in the gym.

They also fancy themselves as musical artists and spend big on DJ equipment.

What stereotypes tell us:

Richo’s fabled tendency to miss golden opportunities in front of goal represents the broader Richmond fan affliction: We could have had that.

A Richmond supporter is the colleague who always tries to convince you, and themselves, that this is the year.

A Richmond supporter is the fan who goes mental at the end of the season — every season — and cuts their scarf up with craft scissors, only to stitch it back together again the following March and line up for another few months of heartache.

Meanwhile, only old stories about Jack Dyer get them through.

The trendier Richmond gets, the more out of place they seem.

Or actual music gear  :shh who the stuff actually buys DJ equipment? Turntable from JB doesn't count.

Never met a Richmond supporter from Cranbourne/Narre Warren. Anyone?

More likely blackbur, nunawading, Mitcham, Donvale, Vermont, Wantirna, Knox, Bayswater, Ringwood etc is the heartland.

"Using a mix of research and stereotyping"

Award for the most moronic statement in the media.

Where I live
Richmond merchandise is the first to sell out when on display in the local coles/kmart shelves.
What is generally left is pies, blues and cats gear.
