Brent Harvey reveals Richmond sledges
KANE YOUNG
Herald-Sun
September 18, 2015
BRENT Harvey has heard it all before.
“Too old”. “Goal-hungry”. “Sook”.
Even after 407 games, Harvey’s rivals still try to get inside his head.
Last Sunday, as the champion Kangaroo set about breaking his own 10-year clearance record to help his team book a semi-final showdown against Sydney tomorrow night, it was a Richmond opponent’s turn to wind Harvey up.
“Shaun Grigg told me last week that I was selfish,” Harvey told the Herald Sun.
“And that I was taking up another young guy’s spot on the list.
“That was interesting, I thought. I keep those little things in the back of my mind.”
The week before, when Harvey came on as the sub in the Round 23 dead rubber against Richmond, it was Taylor Hunt who taunted the 37-year-old.
But over 20 seasons in the game, Harvey is adamant the verbal jousting and mind games only spur him on.
“Absolutely, it does. I love that,” Harvey said.
“I love the fact that he (Hunt) thought he could rough me up and get the better of me.
“He was getting stuck into me a little bit, but I’m a competitor.”
Against the Tigers, Harvey finished with a game-high 31 possessions and seven clearances, the most he’s gathered in a decade.
More importantly, Harvey was glad the team responded to the finals intensity, twice reeling in 20-point Richmond leads.
“You looked around at our players when Richmond ran out and you could see on their faces a few little smirks thinking, ‘This is good, this is big’,” he said.
“I knew they got out to a little bit of a lead, but it never felt like the game was done and dusted.
“There were a few tackles at the start of the third quarter when I thought, ‘Yep, we are on here’.”

He who laughs last laughs longest
Grigg and Hunt the 2 biggest hacks in the team and part of the reason we are where we are today as a team.
-
I would have thought that every player on the list is part of the reason why we are where we are at now.
-
Bottom 6 pal. Those 2 especially Hunt are not finals footballers let's be honest, in fact I think they are both VFL level at best.
Anyone disagree with that?
-
Leave it on the field Harvey.

Smartest thing you have said in five years

Our guns can let us down too. Cotchin, Lids, Edwards, Martin and Co go missing as soon as the pressure goes up.
WTF has that got to do with Harvey being a sissy?
-
Players like Hunt,Houli,Grigg are of AFL standard in my opinion, for on many occasions they have shown that they can play.Where I think they fail is that they are not the type to help pull us out of a hole when its required like it was Sunday. We need more of those type of players.
Good on Harvey for sticking it up our boys, and showing them what finals football is all about...Hope our peanuts take notice

Just an FYI it's always good to throw in a etc etc after you name a group of spuds, it makes the argument more robust

Actually think Grigg is right
Article again just proves that with Boomer it's all about Boomer, that is he is a selfish little twirp :snidegrin

I don't necessarily disagree. It's just our problems run deeper than that. Some members of our top 6 go missing in our big games. Cotchin, Lids, Edwards, Martin for example.

He is on SEN now, he was taking about a pre-workout drink and amino acids called Spark, does anyone know more about this drink? He has credited this to his heath and fitness.

Found it, no doubt he is getting royalties...

Nope, it even says it on the web site and he said it during the interview.

Helps you recover from pinch marks and chicken wings. Side effects include whinging and bitchy mood swings.

As much as I dislike everything about North, win and you can say whatever you like.

How ironic griggy
-
How easy would it be to sledge Richmond - all you would have to do next finals series is a few exaggerated " sniffs " and ask - who's crapped their pants ?
-
How easy would it be to sledge grigg or Chaplin
-
Harvey is a selfish person with a chip on his shoulder like quite a few at North
The poor mans Collingwood is North
Harvey is a big mouth average person who mouths off in the field and is not liked by anyone from other clubs, but didn't mention that
The game will be better off without him
-
I wish that our players had made a pact that the next time we play these effing pr%$ we not only SMASH them, but we run through this little scumbag and break every bone in his frigging body. Of course, knowing our mental marshmallows this seems highly unlikely. In lieu of this I would settle for any of the more fair dinkum teams out there to do it instead.
-
A pact has been made amongst the players....let's just they're desperately hoping we play North before he reaches Tuck's record...he may break something but it won't be a record - look for a surprise selection of an "expendable" player that week...:shh
-
On the footy show last night they showed footage from the game and after the siren boomer went to hug Brad Scott, now I'm not sure if you can lip read or not but I believe it looked like he said we smashed the Runts..
??
-
Have apparently made a pact regarding North similar to the one Geelong made regarding Hawthorn after the 2008 Grand Final. :shh
-
bla bla bla
-
Boomer is a 37 year old child. People think Grigg was being ironic.....

Why would he say that when he is the dwarf?

Not sure, hard to speak on behalf of a chip on the shoulder, aussie battler, small man syndrome flog who eats dog food for meals. But if I bump into him I'll ask :shh
-
Would love to get Griggs thoughts on Newy's last 3 years. :shh
-
would love to get griggs thoughts on harveys game last sunday and how it stacked up against his
-
I had Harvey best on ground...to the victor go the spoils and bragging rights.
I hope our boys and our club cop more criticism,in the hope that this lights a fire in their belly that carries them through 2016

grigg is a 29 year list blocker

How does revealing sledges of last weeks game in any way shape or form help the Kangaroos this week?

Spot on.
Let's hope that minnow club get pantsed tomorrow
-
bahaha poo talker Gimp Harvey. You scraped through with umpire charity, go drink your spunk or spark or whatever that poo is.
-
There is about 100 things you could have said back to Grigg, Harvey.
1st one ... "ummmm who are you again?"
-
#2 "wow you are a bit soft"
-
If you were final but needed to tell the world that somebody call you selfish probably proves your selfish and not a team player - typical of the North Melbourne culture , especially this flog and Petrie - Me Me Me Me Me Me-
Anyone notice they are always involved - victims - I don't think so!
-
Again..... to the winners go the spoils and bragging rights
-

or he could have kept his trap shut and go out and pick up more posessions than anyone else on the ground....oh hang on....
Talk is cheap, and no matter what any richmond palyer said to harvey during the game, or what any of us say about him now, he was arguably the best player on the ground. he stood up at crucial times during the game, something none of our players could, and was the difference between the two teams.
If he was playing for us, we most probably win.
words are wind.
-
I agree Penelope..thought Boomer was BOG

Spot on Al.
-
As much as it hurts winners are grinners.
We just did not want it as badly as they did.
-
Don...hurt and ridicule is good if theres the opportunity of payback....That opportunity will come around soon enough...Do we have the cahunas to dish it up though?
-
That's the million dollar question Giggsy.
We've failed at the same hurdle each with its own ridicule.
That may not just be a team thing but a club thing.
The club as a whole need to be looked at and internally assess what is acceptable.
Is it just making up numbers with something token here or there or is it ultimate and sustained
success. 3 years ago it was finals or bust we've got there 3 times since do we want to win a final now
and tick off that box contently and watch our premiership window close and start the
inevitably fruitless journey again or do we want to win more than that and gain footy immortality
For the right reasons and win Premierships.
Overt to Benny and co and the RFC.
-
Need to finish top 4.You cannot win a premiership from 5-8. Unless of course the opposition sides get terrible injuries to their best players and you cannot rely on that.
So next year, anything less than 4th is a fail for me. Simple. After that they must win a final or they'll go out in straight sets. That must be the aim of the club - top 4.
-
Lets see if he's grinning when North Melbourne lose tonight and if all you Harvey supporters send him your grinning condolences. I don't believe I've heard any other players sooking up about being told the truth. Poor BOOM BOOM - And it just goes to prove a selfish flog can grin.
-
:lol
-
Camboon you don't think Boomer himself cut us to pieces last sunday?
If anything we come out sounding line sore losers bitching about a player who at whatever age he is made us look second rate
-
i must say, i have to agree with sentiments that Harvey is just selfish. After all, 30+ posessions is just greedy.
I'm so glad many of our players are happy to sit back and let their team mates get a few possessions themselves, rather that partake in such greediness.

what?
the irony is grigg is rubbish, having the audacity and gall to call OTHERS list blockers
more so when harvrey is indeed old, but a good footballer
i dont know, but i dont think harveys comments in regard to grigg being a knob effect the next match at all
-
Leave it on the field Harvey.
yep, the fact hes come out publicly with those comments shows the disdain and hatred he has for our team. Poor form

yep, winners are grinners and all that, but he's in the midst of a finals campaign, I wouldn't like my players dwelling on poo like that in the lead up to the next game
-
Precious and narcissistic.
Self view is godlike but apparently just a poo bloke and a renowned extreme tight arse. This guy gives you a lift in his car he'll be asking for petrol money upfront plus wear and tear.
Worst guy to play 400, 300 and possibly 200.
-
Yep , you can get30 possessions and be dog , average bloke
-
If we had Harvey and they had Newman! But that reflects on our 30 years of bad drafting really. This is clear example of what our history is and what theirs is.

I keep forgetting to include hunt when I LIST ALL THE DUDS WE NEED TO SACK

Even if we started from scratch like Gold Coast or GWS we'd still stuff things up majorly.

A lot of people i know talking top 4, im am seriously worried about making the top 8. fair dinkum bobby

Even if we started from scratch like Gold Coast or GWS we'd still stuff things up majorly.
I could see it now....
Trading away 1st rd drafted players for 29 and 30yo blokes cos ours hadn't shown enough after 2 years in the system :whistle
