Richmond ruckman Shaun Hampson joined Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze on SEN's Morning Glory:

* The ankles had been troubling me all year. I’d gone over on them quite badly a few times. It cost me about four or five games throughout the year and I’ve just done it my whole football career, gone over on them. So, it was about time to get them done. I had both reconstructed, just tightened up, bone spurs taken out and bit of loose bone. Apparently I’m going to be feeling much better in the next six months. I’ll hopefully start jogging just before we head back to pre-season training late November. And then I’m hoping, maybe after Christmas some time, to start having a proper train with the boys.
* The last couple of years haven’t gone exactly how I wanted for me. My body’s been partly to blame for that. I’ve just never been able to get a good run. I start hitting some good form and then I get injured. It happened again this year. I played some good footy against my old mob (in round 15) and then ended up doing my ankle against Freo (in Round 17). I had a week off and then came back against Adelaide. But I wasn’t quite right, and it cost me for the rest of the season. If I can just get a bit of consistency with my body, I know I can still play some really good footy.
* The Club’s great. They’ve put a lot of faith in me and they still think I’ve got a lot of upside to my game. Brendon Lade’s at the Club as the midfield coach and he constantly tells me he didn’t start playing good footy at Port Adelaide until he was 27. I just want a good, injury-free pre-season and if I can get a season where the body’s right, look after myself, I know I can play some good footy.

Hand/eye coordination would come in handy ::)
As well as the ability to take a mark and kick well…...
-
An even luckier man on a professional level than he is on a personal one.....
-
Great gig this. 3 years at 300k for doing sfa but according to some he has played good football.
-
Gets fit on weekends by getting smashed by Vfl ruckman too
Good gig indeed

Think that's what he meant by hand eyed coordination bro

Unusual that a doctor would fail to make such an obvious connection....

Kicking also uses legs and feet and so is more than hand eye…. :whistle
-
Unless it's kicked off the ground or on the volley where does the ball come to the foot from?
-
I actually knew a guy many years ago who was a fantastic tennis player but couldn't kick a football to save himself. So you can have the best hand eye coordination but that doesn't always translate into being a good kick. ;D
-
Where does the ball usually come to the foot from?
You drop it from your hand BUT you must coordinate your hamstrings, quadriceps, gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior and posterior as well as soleus and probably many other muscles to execute a good kick. Thats more than hand eye or am I missing something?
-
what muscles must you coordinate to hit a tennis ball?

Will win the chas in 2016. You watch. :snidegrin

Hamspud had a few good games which surprised me before he fell over again. Didn't about the foot thing, spurs are stuffed up, painful enough to walk let alone running and jumping. Maybe he can come good if they have fixed this up.

With his injuries out of the way and a pre-season behind him don't be surprised if Hampson the jackhammer is our no.1 ruckman by mid season and in contention for All Australian honours.
Time to get on board folks, don't miss this train. :snidegrin
