Hobart also gets a taste of the action for the first time when North Melbourne hosts Richmond at Blundstone Arena in round 11.
Richmond and Melbourne playing the only Sunday night fixture of the year, on Anzac Eve at the MCG.
Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Richmond and West Coast will each have eight six-day breaks with the Kangaroos also having to navigate three back-to-back six-day breaks.
As previously announced by the AFL, Indigenous Round will be re-named the Sir Doug Nicholls Round and will take place in round 10, including the Saturday night Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond.
The floating fixture for round 23 has been retained even though a weekend off has been introduced between the final round of the home and away season and the first week of the finals.

I don't quite get the who ha about Friday night games
Give me the poos personally, Saturday arvo every day of the week here.
-
Must sack the coach if we lose to Melbourne round 5
-
Draw looks almost the same every season. Bombers twice, Hawks and Giants second half of the year, Melbourne near the start to screw up our early rounds, Freo or any Subi game before the bye, etc. just shuffle everything around a few games either side every season and away it goes.

Also. Collingwood, Essendon, Port, Haw, Syd we play twice. That's actually a tough gig for a middle 6 finishing team.

Good draw I reckon, always beat hawks ,swans & port so all good

Club's response to the 2016 fixture ...
RICHMOND
“A similar fixture last season saw us No. 1 in the competition for home-and-away crowds, so we expect it will again be embraced by our members and supporters. Given the success of our inaugural Anzac Eve match against Melbourne last season, it was important we had the opportunity to work with Melbourne to further embed it as an annual game. Dreamtime at the ‘G will again be the centrepiece of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round, and ... we also look forward to playing GWS in Canberra. It will be the first time the club has ever played for premiership points there and we have a very loyal supporter base in the region.”
- CEO Brendon Gale

RICHMOND
PROS: The Tigers travel six times, just once more than the minimum of five for Victorian clubs. They also play 13 night games, including six Friday nights, giving the team great exposure.
CONS: The cost of Friday night games is often six-day breaks and the Tigers have eight of those. They play the Hawks and Swans twice, as well as possible finalists Port Adelaide and Collingwood.
PLAY TWICE: Hawthorn, Sydney Swans, Port Adelaide, Collingwood, Essendon
BYE: Round 13
FIRST FOUR WEEKS: Carlton (h), Collingwood (a), Adelaide (h), West Coast (a)
LAST FOUR WEEKS: Collingwood (h), Geelong (h), St Kilda (h), Sydney Swans (a)
SIX-DAY BREAKS: Eight
THEY SAY: "We think this is a great fixture for both our fans and our commercial partners. A similar fixture last season saw us No.1 in the competition for home-and-away crowds, so we expect it will again be embraced by our members and supporters. One Thursday night, six Friday nights and seven Saturday nights are significant television time-slots, and that will provide fantastic exposure." - CEO Brendon Gale.
WE SAY: There are no excuses for the Tigers in this fixture, which has them travelling outside Victoria sparingly and finishing the season with five of their last seven games at the MCG. Four of their last five games are also against non-finalists from 2015. The AFL is banking on the Tigers performing, with a heavy Friday night schedule, and all marquee matches, such as the season-opener against Carlton, have been retained. – Nathan Schmook

Good draw
Looking forward to a trip Canberra :clapping
Plenty of Friday & Saturday nights. Which is great for sponsors, even better when contracts are due for renewal, raises the value of the brand :clapping

Week off before finals - that's been brought in because of you North :wallywink

Still not an easy draw but we can't complain when we play out bogie sides (North, Geel, Melb, Dogs) only once.
Hopefully, some quirks in the draw will help us. We play the Crows and Eagles straight after their respective derbies and play Port over there coming off their bye.
We can't afford a third straight poor start to the year which practically kills off any chance of a top 4 spot even if we are good enough.
-
Not one for making a who ha, but old school Saturday arvo for me. Friday night footy (for the Tiges) is a fawkin pain in the erse.
No games easy, but would've been good to get one of the WA teams at the G.

I play (mediocre) footy on the weekend, so satday arvo's are the worst timeslot. Like the friday night games, best moments this year have been friday nights (Freo, Syd, Hawks) all on the big stage.
And we lost to both WA teams on the G this year as well. :shh

That'll be the Alzheimer's kicking in. Either that or the brain is blocking out that agonising 4 point loss. Thanks for reminding me, Dougey! :)

No, it is entirely the AFLs own doing.
They approved North resting all those players

Will fixture cost Roos, Tigers a finals spot?
Herald-Sun
October 30, 2015
NORTH Melbourne, Adelaide and Richmond fans be afraid. Be very afraid.
Your clubs have been handed the three toughest fixtures of 2016, and if the season just gone is anything to go by, that is seriously bad news.
This time last year Champion Data’s ratings listed Geelong and Port Adelaide as the two most challenging 2015 schedules.
You probably don’t need reminding what happened to those teams — who finished third and fifth the year before.
Need more evidence the fixture matters? The two teams handed the easiest schedules for 2015 were the Western Bulldogs and West Coast.
Other Stories
With teams evenly matched especially around the middle of the ladder, factors like injuries and the fixture play a big role in deciding who makes it to September.
Champion’s formula is simple, rating every team your side plays based on points for and against in the 2015 home-and-away rounds — Hawthorn’s tally of +904 is rated the hardest to play against and Carlton at -829 is the easiest.
Add up the for and against of all the Kangaroos’ opponents next year and you end up with a total of +1302, clearly the highest in the comp.
The figure is even more stark when you consider the Roos’ 2015 fixture was rated at -44 (ranked 10th). That’s a jump of 224 goals.
That’s on the back of double-up games against Hawthorn, Sydney, Adelaide and the Bulldogs.
The Crows come in second at +1038 — also a giant leap from -38 last year.
They have to play Fremantle, West Coast and the Roos twice — plus Geelong and Port Adelaide.
Richmond is third at +660, but Tiger fans can take some comfort from the fact they were handed the fifth-toughest draw in 2015 (+448) and still won 15 games.
Brent Harvey and the Kangaroos face a challenging fixture in 2016.
The predictions aren’t perfect. Going into last season a game against the Eagles or Dogs would have been considered a likely win.
But it tends to even itself out — the Tigers won tough matches against Hawthorn, Fremantle in Perth and the Swans in Sydney ... but also dropped games that would have been considered ‘easy’ against Melbourne and the Bulldogs.
So who are the teams ready to follow the Dogs and Eagles and jump up the ladder thanks to an easy draw in 2016?
St Kilda has the easiest fixture according to Champion Data, but a finals appearance in 2016 seems unlikely (sorry, Saints fans).
Essendon (second-easiest) could surprise, but the teams that will be licking their lips are Port Adelaide, Geelong and Gold Coast — all ranked in the bottom five for draw difficulty.
If recent history is any guide, they will certainly have the Roos, Crows and Tigers looking over their shoulders.

Fixture rankings: Crows do it tough, but Cats and Bombers all smiles
AFL.com.au
October 30, 2015
ADELAIDE faces the toughest draw in 2016, based on the simple formula of tallying the number of wins its opponents next year managed in 2015.
At the other end of the scale, Geelong and Essendon hit the jackpot with seemingly easier draws.
North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Richmond and West Coast all have tough draws too based on this formula, but their road to the finals is similar to Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood, who both missed finals in 2015.
TEAMS COMBINED WINS IN 2015*
Adelaide 251
North Melbourne 247
Hawthorn 246
GWS 244
Collingwood 241
Richmond 240
West Coast 239
Brisbane Lions 238
Sydney Swans 238
Western Bulldogs 238
Fremantle 236
Gold Coast 236
Melbourne 236
Carlton 233
Port Adelaide 233
St Kilda 233
Geelong 232
Essendon 229
*Combined wins in 2015 of each club's 2016 opponents.

interesting that champion data do their rating based on points for and against.
I'm of the belief that the percentage column can often tell you more about a team and where they are at than the win loss columns (within reason)

Pretty upset with you lot.
Not one mention here about the loss of a game in QLD.
2 Teams in WA => 2 games in WA
2 Teams in SA => 1 game in SA
2 Teams in NSW => 1 game in NSW and 1 in Canberra
2 Teams in QLD => NOTHING FFS.
How is that reasonable?
:banghead :banghead :banghead
Cheers Tommy.

Would believe this. My old man was in the supporters club up there and even run it for a little bit. Always had plenty of numbers.

No they don't, not even close but I do agree with your frustration.
-
Such a raw deal for interstaters....
Maybe we should become like a Norf and shop ourselves around the country for 6 home games a year just to keep you Interstate members happy. Play remaining 5 at the mcg.
Seriously.....the support is appreciated but your just not that important.
-
Yeah, god forbid QLD at least get one game up there ::).

All our matches should be at MCG on Saturday afternoons.

God forbid a so called hard core Richmond supporter would not be prepared to travel 1-2 hours on a plane to see 1-2 games per year, because the whole club won't come to you.

Personally, I'm disappointed there no game in Qld.
Always make that trip because it is a dual trip, footy and family.

The CAS decision also benefits Richmond :thumbsup.
We're one of only 5 sides to play Essendon twice this year - Richmond, Carlton, Geelong, Gold Coast and St. Kilda.
Round 10 (Away) - Dreamtime at the 'G

Round 17 (Home)
Thanks CAS ;D.
