We've seen this all before (some armed lunatic fringe on some warped ideological crusade wants a gunfight with US Federal authorities) and it never ends well.

did you actually read the article and the background on this situation before labelling it a lunatic fringe on some ideological crusade?
perhaps they are nutters, but they are probably nutters who have had a gut full of the way they are treated by a corrupt government and their agencies.
This is, after all, a government, who at the will of their corporate masters, send armed federal agents to raid farmers who have the audacity to sell raw milk to customers who seek it out, in a manner as if they were raiding a drug cartel.

I've read more than one article. The leaders of this "militia" (Bundys) are known white supremacists. There was actually some sympathy for their father at a previous stand off at their property until he let the cat out of the bag.
As for what caused this latest stand off - when you illegally set fire that spreads to public land to hide traces of your illegal shooting then don't be surprised when law enforcement comes a knocking. This 'militia' is nothing but gun-totting rednecks who think it's their god given right to shoot anything and everything that moves. Now people are free to march and protest peacefully which others initially did on the first day but armed takeovers is the stuff of nutjobs. You can only imagine what would happen if 150 armed non-whites took over a US government-owned facility making 'do what we want or else' demands.

Whenever anyone claims 'God' told them to do something like this, then you know they are whackos. They're part of that looney far-right fringe in America that thinks they can do whatever they want because they say they don't recognise the legitimacy of US Federal government. Funny how the Bundy's didn't have a problem receiving government handouts.
Anyway, the US Feds are going to try and wait them out with winter settling in. They don't want another Waco.
