Tigers, horses and Braithwaite to pump up the 'G

RICHMOND has upped the ante with its match-day entertainment in 2016 and will use a parade of horses to launch the new season on Thursday night.

The Tigers are hosting the first game of the year against Carlton at the MCG and have planned their pre-game entertainment around Daryl Braithwaite's hit song Horses.

The song has been a feature of Hawthorn's post-match celebrations in recent years with the Hawks revealing last season they sing it after a really good interstate win.

Braithwaite will perform the song on the MCG stage as four horses do a lap of the ground.

It's a package that might remind fans of the Brisbane Lions' dumped idea to use a live lion during their pre-game entertainment in 2014.

The horses theme will continue at quarter time breaks, with crowd karaoke to Braithwaite's song, and again at half-time with a lip-sync battle on stage.

Horses safer than having live Tigers running around the G

Could they paint the horses with yellow and black stripes so it feels more authentic.

It's a sponsor's idea  :-\.

----------------------------------------------

Tigers CEO Brendon Gale confirmed today the move is linked to a marketing campaign by insurance agency Bingle — there is a Bingle billboard outside Punt Rd that shows Richmond players riding horses, but that seems unlikely before the first game of the season.

The Richmond plan hasn’t been well received by fans so far.

Really surprised that no one twigged this was sponsor driven until the club said something

Facts are

Bingle are our co-major sponsor

They kick in over a milliom bucks a year

Its their current marketing campaign. Hasn't anyone seen the TV commercials?

If this "entertainment" means we keep said sponsor very happy; read they renew their generous sponsorship then go for it.

It's part of the unavoidable business of footy

Early 90s Baby boomer rubbish mentality. Still browning the mid 2010s

'Oh it will be fantastic Neville. We weren't going to go but let's drive the Burgundy Territory into the G and have a ball. I hear Kate Cebrano will be there too".

"Oh she's just fantastic Jenny. And so is that new artist...what's her name? Delta?"

"Oh she's just fantastic Neville. I mean, she can't dance and that's why she astral plains in every music video, but she's just so talented"

Oh cmon WP. Your view on this arguably jeopardises the integrity of the debate.

If it's so unavoidable why do other teams major sponsor (let alone co-major sponsor) refrain from making their sponsored team look like a bunch of stuffing dickwads?

It's so obvious to rank and file supporters it's embarrassing.

It actually damages the brand of the club. Eff their sponsorship to the stuffing tip.

How does me having a different opinion and refusing to bag the club on this "jeopardise the integrity of the debate"?

Never said it was great idea, just dont get the angst. I am more interested in who debuts in round 1, how we play. Not the slightest bit interested in the entertainment .

All major sponsor ask their clubs to do things. Head interstate and see what some have had to do

As for saying they should "f" off, hope  you've got someome to replace them.  It's a  tpigh gig gettong sponsors. Good pnes you hold onto

Is there anything the club can do in your eyes /view that you wont bag, be critical or negativity about?

Just seems right now alot of people are whacking for the sake of it. Not quite sure that qualifies as debatong issues

If I may.

The poster of the players on horseback indicates that there is no class whatsoever amongst those who both made the decision to implement the advertising and those who agreed to it.

Bingle should shoot their marketing director.
RIchmond should get some pride.

It's a football club.

Who proposes a team base their pre match build up on such gay abandon ?

It defames the players and the clubs culture. (Lol)

I'm not surprised, however, that the club has just bent over and said yes to such an insipid campaign.

Both parties are to blame.

It's just another example of Richmond happily conducting corporate deals and mouthing propositions of 40,000 seat arenas.

Such a shame they can't suceed on the field or between their ears.

I'll answer your direct question - what was it amongst the noise?   ;D I'll delve back in a second.

In the meantime your comment re 2/15 positive threads, I'm not sure where the 2 or the 15 comes from. I gave 2 as an example. I believe there are other positive threads. For example, my thread on Chol, the thread on Rioli. And many more.

How many people on this site start positive threads? I'd be up there.

Maybe it's 4/15. Maybe it's 7/10. Irrespective that's free speech -debate the merits of the argument rather 'whacking for the sake of it' which cheapens the integrity of the debate.

Ok I think the question  was 'how does having a different opinion insult the integrity of the debate'. Please correct me if I'm wrong

a different opinion in principle is good because it fosters consideration of opinions. Diversity of argument is a good thing. More importantly, the merits of an argument are imperative.

In this instance the consensus is this is an embarrassing idea. Imho the merits are clear. The premise of your argument is your not a massive fan but do it for the sponsors, which is, in my opinion, an embarrassing cheapening of our club brand and others would obviously agree.

But obviously we all have a different perspective and for the record that is not unhealthy.

No that wasn't the question

On your point about cheapening the clubs brand. How can it when  on the night no one is going to be interested in it?

What about the other cringe worthy sponsor driven promos that go on at games eg the Decor one where they want to see couples kissing on the big screen?

Haven't heard any carry on about those cheapening the clubs brand

Bollocks, pouring heaps of money in doesnt give the sponsor the ability to force the club to do things they dont agree to.

It doesnt give them control over the club and it's decision making

"Forced"? Never said they were forced. As part of any sponsorship deal clubs help promote the sponsors brand. This isnt anything new

So I Don't think they have forced anything I think it is fair to say the club has actually agreed to assist their sponsor on this promotion

Whether it's a smart decision is a separate discussion

And just on the ghastly promo pic pf the players on the white horses.

This isn't the first time our players have been used in a bingle promo pic. Didnt anyone see the pic with the chimpanzee? That was up on the big screen last night year at all home games, on a billboard at Punt Road Oval and appeared every week in the footy record. Didn't hear or read anyones angst about that.

WP the whole game is being promoted within the context of this promo. The decor promo is a side issue.

And the integrity of the club matters to us members and supporters no matter who is exposed to it.

I'm not sure how you see otherwise.

Dooks, i think this so called entertainment they are going to be putting on is likely to be shocking to be honest. And the only people who will suffer any brand cheapening will be Bingle. That's their problem and frankly i don't care. I doubt very much any Tiger member or supoorter worth their salt will give a rats about the "show" prematch

I care about this club.

Not disputing for a second that some of the angst has been bought on by people's passion for the club.

but is it the aboslute worst thing that may happen on Thursday night, answer is no. But hopefully it will be  ;D

Hopefully the lesson will be even the most perceived negative supporters care about this club.

So here's hoping for a 10+goal win  :gotigers

Ok I think the question  was 'how does having a different opinion insult the integrity of the debate'. Please correct me if I'm wrong

a different opinion in principle is good because it fosters consideration of opinions. Diversity of argument is a good thing. And the merits of an argument are imperative.

In this instance the consensus is this is an embarrassing idea. The premise of your argument is your not a massive fan but do it for the sponsors is, in my opinion, an embarrassing cheapening of our club brand and others would obviously agree.

Of course they were not forced, that is the point. They agreed to this poo of their own free will, therefore they deserve any stuff, rather than pawning off the "blame" to the the sponsors

Because that was nowhere as gay, nor was it to be associated with an 90's ballad aimed at teenage girls, to be used at the seasons opener in some misguided attempt to inspire. What exactly this is meant to inspire, stuff knows.

an out of date crap song  :facepalm
karaoke of above song at the footy :facepalm
lip syncing competition of above song at the footy :facepalm
promotional poster more suited to the Gay Mardi Gras :facepalm

If this is designed to take the attention away from the Hardwick extension it is actually brilliant, because it makes that decision look like a master stroke, otherwise is goes down in history with advertising a deaf convention on the radio as one of the most pox marketing ideas possible

What are you on about?

What does the dreamtime game have to do with this?

I am talking about this game and this game only. Dont for one second even suggest or imply I'm talking about any other game.

And I dont believe that any supporter going to the game on Thursday night is at all interested in this games prematch show. Think there are much more important things that will have peoples interest

Not sure when i blamed the sponsors. Have just pointed out that the sponsor who pours millions into the club have had input into this and that it is nothing new and it happens all the time.

2 partners have made a decision. A bizarre one, I'll grant you that. But one IMESHO is not the most important thing about round 1 of the H&A season.

Do i like what theyve cooked up? No.

Am I up in arms over it? No.

Why? Because they only thing thst is remotely important to me about Thursday night is bloody winning the game because that's just a tad more important to me than some has been singer belting out a song to promote an insurance company.

Lots of hysteria for a fluff piece which is designed to help out a major sponsor.
