don't like the structure of two tall forwards and a ruckman on the ground with one on the bench?

how do you set up, no tall on the bench or just one tall forward?

I dont think Vickery will ever get dropped despite stinking the joint up .

14.12 is his return this year so far ....he's a far more reliable kick for goal than this would indicate.

With big Ben attracting more attention , Vickery could easily get off the chain a bit.

Vickery has been a proven multiple goal scorer throughout his career.

It has been terrific to see Griffiths play so well in the past fortnight but history would suggest he's a fragile confidence player.

Right or wrong - Dimma will continue to play all three talls in attack.

The Barometer - Round 10

Herald-Sun
23 May, 2016

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK: Ty Vickery could find himself in hot water after he was reported for striking Nick Suban in another forgettable trip to Subiaco Oval for the big Tiger. Youngster Jayden Short had little influence against Fremantle with just five touches and could be squeezed out of the senior side for Saturday’s clash with Essendon.

ON THE CUSP:
Corey Ellis is a near-certainty to return after missing the win over the Dockers with soreness. Ellis had put together a strong three weeks of form up until his rest and could be used to provide drive out of defence in the absence of Bachar Houli. Daniel Rioli is likely to return after a brief personal stint away from the club.

CHRIS ROBINSON’S FORECAST: Richmond enters Saturday night’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash with a full head of steam following wins over two of last season’s top-four sides. A victory would vault the Tigers back to 4-6 for the year and fuel hopes of another finals berth.

Surely Rioli will come in. If we give him good service he can easily kick a bag for indigenous round.

Hunt can go without a doubt. I'd consider dropping Vickery because even though the conditions didn't favour a tall, 2 disposals, 0 goals, 1 behind, and 1 Hit out is pee poor.

reckon theyll keep Hunt in and rest Morris

as for Vickery  pfft yeah right - I actually hate him, I hate that such a lazy spud, a deadset cheat on the field with ZERO workrate going the otherway is regarded so highly amongst our coaching staff.

Mix and match. Mostly play with no tall on the bench but when one needs a rest I can't see why we can't plonk Deledio, Martin or even Cotchin forward one out.

But he won't be dropped and he'll probably have a fairly solid game kicking 3+ goals on the most undermanned team in the comp and Dimma will tell us all about it in his presser.

Rioli set to return for Tigers in AFL

By John Salvado

Exciting first-year forward Daniel Rioli is expected to slot straight back into the Richmond lineup for Saturday night's Dreamtime at the `G clash against Essendon.

The rising AFL indigenous star missed last weekend's big win over Fremantle after flying home to Darwin to attend to a personal matter.

The 19-year-old returned to Melbourne on Monday evening and is set to earn a recall and bolster the Tigers' attack.

Rioli has exceeded expectations in his first year at AFL level after being selected by the Tigers with pick 15 in the 2015 national draft.

He debuted in round one and held his spot in the senior team throughout the opening seven rounds, kicking six goals in the process.

Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin expected Rioli to play in the feature match of the AFL's indigenous round as the Tigers push for a third straight win.

"It's obviously a special night for everyone but in particular for the indigenous guys," said Cotchin, who returned from two weeks out with a fractured cheekbone to earn best-afield honours against the Dockers last weekend.

"Daniel obviously brings a lot to our team.

"We love what he offers from a speed and pressure point of view."

Rioli is the great nephew of Richmond's best-ever indigenous player, the late Maurice Rioli.

Fellow teenager Corey Ellis could also return for Richmond after being rested against the Dockers.

RICHMOND

First-year forward Daniel Rioli is likely to return for Saturday night's Dreamtime at the 'G clash after spending time in the Northern Territory because of a family illness.

Key forward Ty Vickery put his spot in jeopardy with just two possessions against Fremantle last Saturday.

The Tigers are unlikely to make extensive changes after their VFL team had a bye.

Corey Ellis, who was earmarked as Bachar Houli's replacement across half-back, should return after being rested with soreness for the first time this season.

Midfielders Jacob Townsend and Oleg Markov were emergencies last week and remain available.

Reece Conca played three quarters in the VFL two weeks ago but might need another run in the reserves before he pushes for senior selection.

our set up last two weeks has been two tall forwards, a starting ruckman and a a ruck/forward on the bench.

you take out one tall forward/ruck without replacing with a tall and you change the dynamics completely. it means if you need to rest a tall on the bench, you have only one tall forward.

Hence why I said play with no tall on the bench but when they do need a rest send the other tall to CHF and play a mid (or even Lloyd) deep to mix it up.

Daniel Rioli set to return for Richmond in Dreamtime game after spending time with sick grandfather

JON RALPH
Herald Sun

RICHMOND small forward Daniel Rioli will play in Saturday’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash after returning from Darwin on Monday night.

The first-year indigenous goalsneak has been in the Northern Territory for a week spending time with a sick grandfather.

But the Tigers are thrilled he will be able to return to play alongside midfielder Shane Edwards in the celebration of indigenous culture.

The 19-year-old kicked two exciting goals in the club’s crucial win over Sydney and has shown flashes of brilliance in his seven games for the year.

Richmond is thrilled with his early progress after making unsuccessful bids for academy selections Matthew Kennedy and Eric Hipwood in last November’s national draft.

Tigers spokesman Simon Matthews said on Tuesday Rioli would take his spot in the side on Saturday night.

“Daniel spend some time back home last week to deal with a family matter,’’ he said.

“He returned late Monday, is back training and we expect him to play in the Dreamtime game.”

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin said this week he was hopeful Rioli might be picked given his x-factor.

“It would be a nice touch given he is one of our indigenous boys. It is a special night for all of us but especially the indigenous boys,” he said.

“He brings a lot to our team, we love what he offers from a speed and pressure point of view.

“I would like to think he is very much in the mid for selection.”

Dimma said today that Vickery won't be dropped.

Rioli is back.

Corey Ellis is in the mix.

Conca will most likely play VFL again this week along with Ivan, who is now behind Hampson in the ruck pecking order.

Would be stoked if we played the following fwd line for the rest of the yr.

HF: Rioli - McBean or Chol - Lennon
FF: C Moore - Riewoldt - Lloyd.

Would happily play Griffiths of the bench as the second ruckman who could rotate thru F/F  when the other talls need a rest.

The thinking is.
Rioli and Lloyd are our crumbing fwds. Both need to apply plenty of pressure as well as kick goals.
Lennon is a strong marking medium type with great foot skills.
Moore is a tall leading player who is both a strong mark and a super quick and agile player.Give him a bit of space to lead into and he would be a handful.
McBean would play the tall hit up role as would Chol depending which one is given the experience each week. This role would suit their lack of size but allow them to play to their strengths.
JR well he speaks for himself.

It has pace has great structure with plenty of height but its not cumbersome. It is flexable enough as blokes like Lennon, Rioli, and Lloyd should be have stints in the midfield allowing blokes like Deledio, Martin Edwards to perform their primary role as mids  but spend a limited amount of time fwd.
