Richmond has regained the services of talented young pair Daniel Rioli and Corey Ellis for Saturday night’s ‘Dreamtime at the ‘G’ encounter with Essendon.
Rioli missed last Saturday night’s victory over Fremantle at Domain Stadium because of a family illness, while Ellis was rested due to general soreness.
See how Essendon will line up for Saturday night's Dreamtime at the 'G clash
Key defender David Astbury also has been recalled to the Tigers’ line-up. Astbury was a casualty of the team’s Round 6 loss to Port Adelaide after playing the first six games of the season.
The three players that go out of the side are experienced defender Troy Chaplin, who has a hip injury, while Connor Menadue and Jayden Short have both been omitted.
Richmond’s three emergencies for Friday night’s match are Menadue, Short and Oleg Markov.

Pretty much

It was a yea or no question

Astbury looks like a deer in headlights, the poor dear.

Wasn't that long ago when Astbury prior to injury was in the view of most judges leading our B & F. You surely cant lose that ability, just a bit slower to return to that level than he should but I still believe he is more upside than Chaplin. Also think he would be worth giving a go up the other end, came to the club as a forward and he can take a grab, couldn't do too much worst than Vickery at the minute. Its a bit outside of the square for the RFC but really given our situation its certainly not the worst time to be trying things.

Well being dropped for one game seemed to put Miles in Brownlow form, imagine what being dropped for 2 or 3 has done for Astbury...WHOA....look out :snidegrin ;D

What a poo side. Looks like the usual suspects will have to carry the rest again.
Fair dinkum win/lose or draw there is nothing apart from one or two to look forward to.
How the stuff does the big pea heart get another game. he should kick 10 essendon have no tall defenders bar one whos played a handful of games. Is this dimwits plan? play him against a non existent opposition and maybe he can find some touch. Who can blame me for asking it.
What a great opportunity it could have been to give C Moore a game and McBean what the hell is there to lose.Surely if Dimwit is right and we are a good side we could play the reserves and still win this.HHHHHHHaaaaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Is there anyone else out there hoping we lose this game. I sure as hell am. :wallywink

Who else is there? :help
Wonder if Elton would have got a go if he wasn't injured (doubtful)

Maybe we could play a guy that has played forward for the last 3 years in our 2's and kicked a heap of goals in a pretty ordinary side before we try a guy that doesn't look like he could get a kick playing for Scoresby.
If they decide AGAIN he is not a backman, let him try and kick a decent amount of goals in the 2's before playing him forward in our 1's just because some had him leading our B&F 5 years ago.

He's named in the VFL this week

Not really sure why they find the need to play both Astbury and Batchelor? I personally don't think you can play both in the same backline. Both too one dimensional.
I'd prefer another running player in the side- Menadue or Short. Or even Castagna for another crack at it.
Not sure what they see in T. Hunt either.

You and the rest of your Essendon mates
The logic is Richmond losing increases the chance of RFC winning a flag
As it's increase te likely hood of getting a less rubbish coach

And in some cases it has to do nothing with logic and is just a personal misery self gratification issue

Agree. He kicked 3 goals against the Demons in his first game.

You think astbury is more rubbish than chaplin?
Yep
Huge call. Weight of evidence against you on this one. Nahas goal against Chaplin being a prime example.

Yes Astbury needs to give a huge performance & grasp the chances that he is quickly running out.
l'm very happy with the In's & out's. Menudue was showing cracks in his braveness. Chaplin just out of sorts (Injury is a cover) Someone had to make way for C. Ellis & Rioli so this week the selectors have done well & there is no excuses why this side can't win by 100 points

Not really ;D
Take the Nahas goal out the equation (yep it was awful but I'm looking at an entire career) and still think Chaplin offers more than Astbury
Time has caught up woth Chaplin no doubt not that he was ever quick but reckon he is faster than Astbury. And certainly has more footy smarts, Astbury appears to have zero smarts, he the perfect example of momentum killer

That late first rounder for Astbury would have been an absolute coup.
What a shame. I agree, Chaplin for mine.
-
Astbury maybe slow but he is hard to beat one on one unlike Chaplin. Astbury in his good season beat Brown and Cloke(at this prime). Chaplin has never claimed a big name. That mistake against Nahas effectively cost us the game. It was made by one of the most senior players in the team and is the ultimate example of how to lose a game for your side
-

I thought he was 1 week on the injury list? I must be mistaken
-
bottom line
Astbury SUCKS
takes 10 minutes to decide what to do with the ball
only a seriously good tosser would consider him to be a worthy afl player....
-
"Better than Chaplin" doesn't necessarily equate with "worthy AFL player".....
-
Turns out it was the week before he was 1-2 weeks and then this week he was TBC
Todd Elton (foot) TBC
-
"Better than Chaplin" doesn't necessarily equate with "worthy AFL player".....
Well put
-
Chaplin isnt great but is (has been) definitely a better player than Astbury and was part of one of the best defensive units in the comp last year...jump up and down as much as u like but facts are facts
the point regarding this weeks team is that considering our opponent, Broad should have been included ahead of Astbury...McBean ahead of Vickery...but that is another matter
-
there are definite question marks over Astbury and if he does not improve he will be traded or delisted. Will have to agree to disagree about Chaplin being a better player than Astbury. The facts do not support your contention. Rance and Grimes principally made our defence last year. Furthermore as other posters have already alluded to there is a real possibility this maybe a futile argument as both may be gone by season's end.
-

What a shame. I agree, Chaplin for mine.
Certainly would have been
And Astbury was silly not take a guaranteed 3 year deal
-
Would hate to play for Brissy though...
-
Jack Riewoldt had a light training session on Friday but Edwards suggested the key forward would be right to face the Bombers.
"He's fine. He's probably just carrying on a little bit," he said.
