WITH the season almost at its half-way mark, AFL.com.au reporters take a look at who is in the running for Virgin Australia 2016 AFL All Australian selection.
Richmond
Trent Cotchin: Leadership debate has distracted from his stellar form, with the skipper ranked No.5 in the AFL for average clearances (6.9) and No.6 for average disposals (29.9). Has been tough under duress.
Dustin Martin: Won a career-best 38 possessions in round 10 and is building each week with more midfield time. No.1 at the club for overall possessions (275), he has been very consistent.
Alex Rance: Has kept the Tigers in matches singlehandedly at times this year. Still the best key defender in the game, he has been beaten only once and split the points with Lance Franklin.
Jack Riewoldt: All Australian last year, Riewoldt has continued to evolve with the game as a forward who can play multiple roles. He has kicked 24.14 and averaged a career-high 15.3 possessions.

Matty Lloyd only has Dusty (on the bench) in his rolling All-Australian team:

Not that I'm arguing, but who?

Heath Grundy :lol
Griffo towelled him up! GRIFFO!! :lol

I'm guessing the Melbourne loss and the Watts incident? Watts also kicked 3 goals.
Buddy did kick 5 on Rance but Alex was hardly beaten in an even old school one-on-one four-quarter FF-vs-FB contest.
-
Yeah thought of the Watts one a bit later, probably it

As good a Jack is playing I think he's capable of ramping it up to an elite level. I personally think as a high half forward & his creativity, he needs to get more ball to really cause some damage. At the moment I'm looking for a more consistent effort across 4 quarters.
-
pretty sure Rance played on Hogan for a while, pantsed him then was moved to Watts, hardly recall Watts giving him a touch up

Quick check and Watts first goal was from a contested mark on McIntosh, second was from a below the knee free kick against Rance (who was on Hogan), last one was that mark/free kick on Rance.
-
Why is Rance in contention, I thought fairly decent players would be a dime a dozen
-
Lloyd has moved Dusty from the bench to a HFF in his rolling AA team.

Anyone's a tool who didn't rate Rance and see that he had what it take the become the best KPD In the game
-
Rance (BP) and Dusty (HFF) are now both in Lloyd's rolling AA team.

Congrats to both :clapping
Both gave me a reason to watch midst a horrible season.
-
How did Green make the squad of 40 let alone the final side? Also think Parker was a bit lucky to make it after a a lengthy quiet period during the middle of the season. Merrett and neale very stiff imo
-
Selwood captain? Surely Dangerfield would have had to be a lock. Hell I'd give Rance Captaincy considering his ability to lead via example despite the onslaught he gets from opposition forwards week in week out
-
Congrats to both. Very well deserved.
-
I'm so glad we didn't end up getting Treloar. He's not even an A-grader. Still no big fish
