SUMMARY
Richmond is in the middle of a run of winnable matches and, with four wins from its last five games, is keeping the wolves at bay after a horror start to the season. Saturday presents another opportunity against the lowly Lions, who are nose-diving and went to 1-12 with a 49-point loss to West Coast last week. The Lions have both eyes on the future and will unveil rookie debutant Matthew Hammelmann on Saturday. The Tigers could soon have the same future first approach, but right now appear focused on playing their best football and keeping the dream alive. To be any chance of a shock upset, the Lions will need to contain Richmond star Dustin Martin, who recent form has elevated him to a strong Brownlow Medal chance.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, June 25, 1.40pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R3, 2015, Richmond 21.11 (137) d Brisbane Lions 8.10 (58) at the Gabba
R16, 2014, Richmond 12.7 (79) d Brisbane Lions 7.12 (54) at the MCG
R5, 2014, Richmond 15.16 (106) d Brisbane Lions 9.9 (63) at the Gabba
R20, 2013, Richmond 14.13 (97) d Brisbane Lions 11.8 (74) at the MCG
R19, 2012, Richmond 20.12 (132) d Brisbane Lions 12.12 (84) at the Gabba
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Tigers' big stars were the difference the last time these sides played, with Jack Riewoldt (four goals), captain Trent Cotchin (37 disposals) and midfielder Dustin Martin (29) all outstanding.
2. Richmond has now won four of its last five matches but three of those wins were against bottom four sides (Fremantle, Essendon and Gold Coast).
3. Richmond has dominated the Lions in recent seasons, winning the past eight matches and 12 of the past 14 since 2005. The Lions haven't beaten the Tigers since round seven, 2009.
4. The Lions continue to rank either last or second last in a number of important categories – kicks, disposals, uncontested possessions, contested marks and goals.
5. The Lions are ranked fourth for clangers, averaging 52.8 a game. They are ranked 15th in disposal efficiency at 71.9 per cent.
6. Dayne Zorko is the Lions' No.1 ranked player in the Schick AFL player ratings at No.14, 57 spots ahead of the next best Lion, Stefan Martin, who is ranked No.71.
IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR … Daniel Rich. The Lions midfielder has been tagged for three straight weeks and had just seven possessions after quarter-time against the Eagles last week. The Tigers could view him as a player who is vulnerable and send a run-with midfielder to him.
PREDICTION: Richmond by 40 points

Hardwick is buoyed by the streak his team pulled off two years ago as it heads into the back half of the season. But he’s adamant the Tigers look no further than Brisbane.
Richmond used the break to hone its focus on what it has been doing well rather than throwing new concepts into the mix, with Hardwick hopeful of using the team’s recent run of success as a building block for the second half of the season.
“Yeah, probably (we take heart from having made finals with a late run),” the coach said.
“We’ve won four out of the last five games, bar a pretty poor performance against North Melbourne.
“Our consistency level over the way we’ve been playing have been pretty good over the last four or five weeks. We’ve got to make sure that we maintain that consistency and get those results on the board.
“We’ve got a pretty challenging block coming up. We’ve got a tough challenge in Brisbane, who played better last week. They’re a side that is on the up. We’ve got to come focused to play.”
He knows it’s ‘boring’ but he only has his eyes on the Lions.
“We’ll continue playing every game that it comes. It’s the old boring analogy of ‘one week at a time’ — we’re firmly in that basket at the moment, so we’ve got a challenging game against Brisbane this week.
“Our year extends no further than this week.”

The Tigers have averaged the second-most marks inside 50 since round eight, and will look to Riewoldt, Ty Vickery and Ben Griffiths to continue to have an impact in what shapes as wet conditions.
The Lions have only the one win this season – against Gold Coast in round four – and will be without key midfielder Dayne Zorko because of personal reasons.
"They played better last week. I went up and watched that game against West Coast and they controlled the ball pretty well," Hardwick said.
"We saw some instances where they probably went sideways a little bit too much but I think they'll address that this week.
"They're a side that is on the up. They've got some young players, some exciting players, and we've got to make sure we come focused to play."

At the ground, going to struggle to beat the crowd against gold coast
-
Blackban triple m for an exterior, non related cause and get beaten by Brissy

You suck Benny Gayle
-
Funny to watch, like Richmond vs Richmond :lol
-
Woah. This is ugly
-
Ugly football
-
I wonder if they go on with it, or put the cue in the rack for the quarter?
-
Vickery answers his bronx cheers with a stuff snap...then stairs at the croud emotionless.
Looks like a player who knows he wont be there next year
-
It's good to kick backwards and sideways if you are barcelona or bayern Munich or hawthorn.
Too many crap kicks grigg. Ellis. Hampson.
-
Menadue almost bog. In fact yep ill call it he is bog.

BabyFyfe

Flat track plodders

Should win this by 5 goals. Sick of seeing this type of performance once we know we are dominating a team. Absolutely no killer instinct whatsoever. Too many players happy to conserve energy for next week.
-
Brisbane are an absolute rabble. Worst team I have seen in a while.
Surely Essendon are a chance against this mob.

Bottom six not afl standard ...
Go missing against better teams.
-
Disgraceful last 40 minutes.
-
42 point win but a very average effort after building a good lead. Definitely a culture thing because lack of killer instinct has plagued this club for years. Way too many games letting opposition teams back into games.
-
What an absolute stuffing disgrace.
-
Before Cotchin's goal - 6/10
After Cotchin's goal - 2/10
-
Have to acknowledge those posters who could be stuffed contributing to the thread today.
-
Really disappointing last quarter.
We are not good enough to lift the pedal off the accelerator.
Hampson injury soured it even more. At least we have Maric as a back up. On the Adelaide Oval he will be useful.

Would anyone care to post a recap of this Match, please?
-
Actually don't
I'm overseas and the score is enough. Same poo different week
Losers even when they win these clowns

I went. I'll reluctantly indulge. Now that i am rewarmed.
It was an inconsistent effort across 4Q. Brisbane looked like a side that was learning. We looked like a side that tried and succeeded at times but on the whole didn't know what it was doing. But should know better.
First off it was effing cold. And i dispute the 28,888 odd crowd as closer to 22,222.
I thought the game panned out as i expected.
We overpossessed - check.
We under tackled - check.
We line- balled centre clearances - checkity pretty much check.
We piled on goals at times then went to sleep.
Basically our ladder position befits our reality.
I'll be honest - martin was superior if not an almost 4q effort. Add to that, NOW LISTEN, MENADUE was AMAZING. I really think we have found some one here. This guy runs his arse off, links up and even physically heckles players where they are hassling our big bodies.
'OUTSIDE BOSS' im calling it.
Now for the others.
Hunt is an absolute liability.
Vickery is an absolute head case. Looked like a guy who knows hes going to be moved on. Take that to the bank.
Riewoldt looked injured. Lost a but leg of speed and spring. Tbh so did Deledio.
I think Asbury looked a lot more nimble and spritely. Wouldnt suprise me if he is now injury free. One to watch iver the next 2-3 months.
Vlastuin showed a few tricks id like to see more of. Grimes was very solid. Valuable.
Hammer was ok but injured again theres a suprise. Blouse.
Lambert a liability.
Miles was reasonable.
Lloyd is a hot and cold douche.

Broads debut was promising. The kid has height and looks like a very good kick. He also looks adept enough to weve through traffic as evident on a couple of occasions. A little underpaced but thinks quick.
Townsend was kinda MIA. Just doesnt do enough beyond blocking, tackling and the odd link up.
-
Apparently Townsend hurt someone.
Which is good

Really think Townsend read too much of his own press in the off season, needs to start focusing on getting the ball rather than trying to rough up opponents. To me he has the ability but he is simply in the completely wrong mindset. Basically will become a liability as he will be either off the ground under the blood rule or permanently on report for unduly rough play.
From what i have seen of him he is simply making up numbers without having any impact but then i suppose a number of players currently in the side fall under the same banner.

No, I lived through the crap once already

Did he use his speed though?

I disagree. I estimated 27,000 from where I was sitting. There were a lot of tiger supporters at the game. It was bloody cold though!

Who was the rather rotund person with the clip board sitting on two chairs on the bench next to Dumma in the last quarter?

Broad was ok, Vlas back and had a ripper game. Menadue was good.
-
Menadue was BOG in the first half, quieter in the second half
-
Martin seems to be carrying the side. A game we should have won by more.
-
Just a win nothing special. As said above we should have won by 80- 100 points Brisbane was that bad. Test against Port
-
We are the form team of the comp.
Won 5 of the last 6.
Winning form is good form.
You can't argue with those facts.
We just ask for too much.
We are the most selfish supporters in the comp.
One of these next few years we'll win 4-6 games for a few years in a row and
the wins of the last month will be distant memory.
Chill pill and relax people.

Contact between Richmond’s Jacob Townsend and the Brisbane Lions’ Mitch Robinson from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said Robinson was trying to win possession of the ball after a bounce, with Townsend coming towards him from the side. As Robinson took the ball, Townsend had one arm out and was reaching for the ball, as he was committed to the contest. Contact was made between the two players. It was the view of the panel that Townsend was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

Surprised Stefan Martin didn't get some votes, thought he played an excellent game.
I would have given him 8/10 and Hammer 2/10.
-
Good to see Grigg up there....again. :thumbsup
-
Some people are just happy to wallow in mediocrity
-
Good to see Grigg up there....again. :thumbsup
Grand total of 7 or so?
Including the 3 Damien was nice enough to give him in the 40 point lose to port
And that sterling game vs the drug cheats
-
Good to see Grigg up there....again. :thumbsup
While you hang your hat on mediocre moneyball players playing to a decent level us people who don't accept mediocrity will demand better standards from our players so Grigg isn't deemed as one of our better players. Take the rose coloured glasses off and realise that he is not the way forward!
-
Um are you saying you'd rather have rioli in the side than grigg?
Crazy
