Title: What year was our list in the best shape under Hardwick?
Post by: Yeahright on July 26, 2016, 09:44:23 PM
As per thread title.

People are quick to dismiss Dimma's comment about our list being in the best shape in his tenure but I would like to hear what year some posters think our list has been better?

2013.

Maric was still useful. Chappy was ok.
Underrated players Jackson , Tuck , King and Newman added a little steal.
Matty White was terrific that year too. Has been sorely missed.

It's the best in terms of top end talent and up and coming kids/promise mainly through Vlastuin (if he gets back in the middle), Lennon (as good a kick as we have on the list, similar skills to Deledio if not as quick, but probably won't be here next year either) and the last two drafts....the middle tier is still the problem it always was (never rated the likes of Hackson or Newman and the top ups were all arse, White had pace but not much else, King bought spirit and heart,Tuck was as good as if not better than Miles, Chaplin was ok for one year, we're still stuck with rubbish like Grigg & Hunt, Edwards has gone backwards again, blokes like B.Ellis & Conca look like busts )...while the ruck division is worse than ever, (Maric at his peak & with Stephenson as back up was the best Halfstep has had.), key defensive stocks are non-existent outside Rance  and the key forwards are either shyte, unproven or still years away outside Riewoldt.....it's definitely the best list we've had for years in terms of pace....so weighing everything up, I'd say Halfstep is right , but it's still not a great list though and it's made worse by the fact that he's not even close to/nor capable of getting the best out of it.

Why do always misconstrue the most mildest of praise and even obvious damning with faint praise as "talking up"? "Best of a bad bunch" doesn't equal "great" or even "good".......
