Broad was very good in 2nd half
Donga Menadue is class personified & while he didnt get a great deal of it , he was very good
Callum Moore was a bit quiet whilst Andrew Moore was prolific
Toddy did a couple of nice things forward but wast clunking his marks
Towner was typically hard & has cleaned up his disposal a bit
Geezer Butler was busy & best game for some time
Beany was a bit quiet, but rucked a bit & was ok, had a good chat to his Dad again
Despite reports to the contrary , Ivvy can still jump & nearly took MOTY & was influencial in the ruck againt a monster in Sikora ??
Soldo continue to progress & was pretty good again
Chol was a bit fumbly early but continues his development down back & was thrown forward in the last

The game itself was played in front of the worst crowd in our 3 years stand alone & as a spectacle wasnt much due to the wind but 7 goals 8 to zip in the last was great also considering we lost Tommy Couch to a hammy in the 3rd

I never thought we were going to lose despite being 3 goals down again @ 3/4 time, knowing we had the wind in the last, we walked home up Punt Road after the game & was a battle so wind was very strong.

First gamer Jarred Ellis ( ex GC) was really influential, not sure why he hasn't previously played but he is VERY good

I said a while ago amongst all the doom & gloom that our second half of the year will be an improvement on the first half & it has been, hopefully if we can keep the likes of Ballard, J Ellis, Darley, Aarts , Mellington on board & add to them for next year I think we will be OK.

Despite being VERY small , Tommy Sylvestro floats my boat as does James Fletcher ( 23rd man last few week)

Andrew Moore's 37 disposals:

Coming off his 28-disposal, two-goal game last week, midfielder Andrew Moore boosted his chances of a senior call-up by taking out best-on-ground honours in his side's 31-point win.

Emerging Tigers Nathan Broad and Jacob Townsend also helped lift their side to victory, while axed forward Liam McBean kicked a first-quarter goal but didn't set the world on fire in his return to VFL level.

VFL Tigers stage another epic stuff

richmondfc.com.au
August 1, 2016

Richmond’s VFL side staged a stunning comeback to secure a 31-point victory over Frankston at Punt Road Oval on Saturday.

The VFL Tigers trailed by 19 points at three-quarter time for consecutive weeks, needing a final term goal-fest to lift it off the canvas.

The final term yielded seven majors, as Craig McRae's side steamrolled the Dolphins to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Blustery conditions meant the game was always going to be a struggle, and after a scrappy first three quarters, the Tigers electrified the crowd in the last, winning 11.15 (81) to 7.8 (50).

The Tigers slammed on 7.8 and importantly held Frankston scoreless, which highlighted their growing maturity and improvement as a football side.

The last quarter was brimming with heroes.

With Ivan Maric sitting out the final term with a back complaint, the critical rucking responsibility was heaped solely on the broad shoulders of Ivan Soldo.

And it was fitting that Soldo nailed the sealer which ultimately sunk the Dolphins.

Soldo’s final term heroics epitomised how far this group has come, and showcased his evolution as a footballer — to stand-up when his team needed him most.

Richmond oozed resilience in the final term.

Flashy wingman Nick Mellington’s classy snap at the four-minute mark sparked the Tigers, and signalled a seven goal avalanche.

Inside bulls Andrew Moore (37 disposals and 11 clearances) and Jacob Ballard (30 disposals) were at their bustling best.

Small forward Jake Aarts nagged the Dolphins’ defenders constantly and crafted a game-high three majors, while debutant Jarred Ellis captured his moment to shine.

Ellis struggled to make an impact in the first three quarters of his debut, but he made sure his final term was a truer reflection of talent.

As captain Sam Darley’s long-range shot drifted across the face of goal, Ellis launched and clunked a vital mark deep in the left-forward pocket.

He then settled himself, and coolly snapped his first major for the Club which rocketed the Tigers to within three points, and they sailed home thereafter.

The remaining goals came via Aarts, Todd Elton, Ballard, Soldo and James Fletcher — mere moments before the final siren.

At the other end of the ground, Nathan Broad (26 disposals and 11 marks), Callum Moore and Ryan Gale (18 disposals) were resolute and defiant, continually propelling Frankston’s forays forward.

Broad put in a stellar performance, with his courage in the air, dash, and daring with the ball, standing out.

The opening term was an arm-wrestle, as Dan Butler buzzed around Punt Road Oval and set-up Liam McBean for a solitary first-quarter major.

The Tigers trailed by seven points at quarter time, but clicked into gear early in the second term.

Elton continued his resurgent form when he nailed a monster goal from beyond the 50-metre arc, with Aarts following suit minutes later.

The duo’s majors handed Richmond a slender six-point lead, then the Dolphins made their charge.

Frankston slammed on three goals on the trot and led by 11 points by half-time.

McRae demanded a lift in energy and intensity from the Tigers in the second half, and they responded with their sparkling final term performance.

Tiger youngsters Jacob Townsend (24 disposals and 10 tackles), Dan Butler (22 disposals) and Connor Menadue (22 disposals) were notable contributors.

Andrew Moore’s impressive stuff block has him averaging 28 disposals and his duet of best-on-grounds in the last fortnight will have him on the cusp of AFL selection.

Richmond's VFL side heads to IKON Park this Saturday to take on the Northern Blues at 2pm.

Well young Soldo touched up Longer early this year and some wanted Longer to be at the Tigers next year. I am certain Soldo will be better than Hampson this time next year. That being said we need to recruit a ruckman during trade period this year.

would rather hamspud over Soldo, thats how much I rate Soldo  :help

I'll back Soldo.

Many high profile rucks weren't much chop at his age either.

I know a few will scoff at this but I would actually look at Majak for the right price. Still very young for a ruckman and I can see him really coming on if given #1 ruck duties.

Agree. North like to use him mainly forward and pinch in the ruck but like you said give him #1 ruck duties. At least you know you're going to get an effort out of him unlike Hamspud

Yep, I think he needs the simplicity of the #1 ruck role. He has some serious weapons to work with. Just need some consistency and better reading of the play, which I think will come with time.

Richmond development coach Ryan Ferguson's summary:

AFL-listed

Andrew Moore

37 disposals, 11 clearances, 20 contested possessions, 14 handball receives

He was really strong, put in a four quarter effort and was really strong in the last (quarter) like a lot of guys. He was one that played four strong quarters of footy for us.

Nathan Broad

26 disposals, 11 marks, 10 handball receives

It was one of Nathan Broad’s best games that we’ve seen for the Club. He had six intercept marks, 26 disposals and gave us lots of rebound. His contest work was really strong and the rest of his game unfolded from there.

Jacob Townsend

24 disposals, 10 tackles, 14 handball receives, five clearances

Again was really solid — a tackling machine. He had 10 or 11 tackles for us and his pressure around the ball is becoming really vital for our team.

Dan Butler

22 disposals, 13 contested possessions, six tackles

Was really lively again, he’s really starting to put some form together. His forward pressure was outstanding and he was able to look really dangerous at times.

Connor Menadue

22 disposals, 16 uncontested possessions, nine handball receives

Had a slower start. We tried him off half-back and he had a few nice pieces of play where he looked like he was really going to break through. It wasn’t until later in the game, when he went into the midfield that he really got a hold of the game and impacted severely for us. It was good to see him get around the ball.

Ivan Maric

25 hit-outs, 12 disposals, five clearances

Like “Couchy” (Tom Couch), Ivan was one of our better players until he hurt his back just before three-quarter time. The last few weeks he’s started to be really strong for us.

Callum Moore

12 disposals, three marks, one tackle

Probably struggled to impact up forward, but when we put him back he took his moments. It might not have been his game overall, but he stood up in the moments and had some critical ones in the last quarter to help us get the game on our terms.

Todd Elton

Two goals, nine disposals, three marks

He kicked 2.2 and looked really lively. He probably could have had more. He dropped a few (marks) that he’d like to take, but it’s been great to see him attacking his footy and we’ve loved the way he’s been going about it in the last few weeks.

Liam McBean

One goal, nine disposals, five marks

He really could have torn the game apart early. He looked like he was going to take it by the scruff of the neck. He eased off a little bit but then again in the last quarter, when the game was there to be won, he stood-up.

Ivan Soldo

26 hit-outs, one goal, four tackles, eight disposals, three marks

Was absolutely stellar in the last quarter. We challenged him at three-quarter time and we saw the response. Six hit-outs to advantage, kicked a goal, was physical and he got the ball down to our mids so we could lock it in our half. He was fantastic when Ivan Maric went off, but was solid all day as well.

Mabior Chol

Six disposals, two marks, three tackles

“Marbs” started really well down back and then found it hard with match-ups. They (Frankston) went pretty small up forward, so he lost his way a little bit. When we swung him forward he was able to impact by taking a couple of marks and laying some really strong tackles. It was good to see that he was thrown around, but still able to respond.

VFL-listed

Jacob Ballard

30 disposals, five tackles, eight marks, one goal

Was also really strong for us. Pretty similar to “Moorey” (Andrew Moore), he’s had a pretty strong month now and his last quarter was really strong. He’s putting together some really consistent foot — he’s a real bull for us.

Sam Darley

19 disposals, nine handball receives, four marks

Was another who started a bit slower than he would have liked, but his leadership in the second-half really shone through. He was stellar for us.

Nick Mellington

19 disposals, seven clearances, one goal

Another guy who’s really starting to build some form. His pressure and his energy and his goal in the last quarter was really important to us. His energy around the ball and around the group was really important for us.

Ryan Gale

18 disposals, seven marks, three tackles

Ryan Gale really stood-up in the last quarter — one of our leaders and he stood-up when the game was there to be won. He led the way from the front which was great.

Jake Aarts

Three goals, 15 disposals, four inside-50s

We love the way he goes about his footy. He always plays a role for us and his energy around the group was fantastic again. He really impacted the game.

Tom Silvestro

14 disposals, five tackles, two clearances

His hard running all day, on the wing and into the half-forward role was really strong again. We know what we’re going to get with “Tommy” every week.

Tom Langford

13 disposals, four inside 50s, six handball receives

Probably would have liked to have a bigger influence. He held onto the ball a little too much at times. He’s a proud man and he’ll be keen to improve on his efforts. His energy around the group and leadership is still really important to us.

Tom Couch

12 disposals, three clearances, two tackles

Was one of our better players until he went off with a pretty severe corky. That hurt us, but he was one of our key players until he went down.

James Fletcher

12 disposals, one goal, six tackles

A really young guy that’s come in and made an impact. His goal in the last quarter was a bit of icing on the cake. It was good to see the guys get around him. His work rate and his hunger to improve is really shining through at the moment.

Ash Morris

12 disposals, three marks, four handball receives

A small back and they (Frankston) had some nifty small forwards, so he played a really important role for us in shutting down those guys. He gave us lots of energy, but also gave us a little bit of run at times and broke through and gave us some ball use off the backline.

Jarred Ellis

10 disposals, one goal, three marks

A first gamer and it was really impressive to see him. He’s coming off a long-term injury and the way he’s worked his way back into the team has been fantastic. He struggled early to find the pace of it, but come the last quarter, he was influential as anyone It was good to see 17 guys get to him after his goal, which was really important early in the last (quarter).

Dan Coffield

Nine disposals, one tackle, five contested possessions

“Coff’s” contest work was really strong, we can rely on that. Every week we rely on Coff for his contest, so he didn’t let us down again with that. He also played on a really dangerous player in Cavarra (Ben) for much of the day and did a pretty good job.

Six hit-outs to advantage, kicked a goal, was physical and he got the ball down to our mids so we could lock it in our half. He was fantastic when Ivan Maric went off, but was solid all day as well.

Oh yes sounds way worse than Hamspud..... :whistle
