Shaun Grigg hopeful of remaining at Richmond despite no contract yet for 2017
SAM LANDSBERGER
Herald Sun
6 August 2016
SHAUN Grigg wants to force a contract offer from Richmond with a strong finish to the season.
The Tigers are facing a litany of list management decisions with about 15 players coming out of contract and an interest in trading for Gold Coast ball magnet Dion Prestia.
Grigg, 28, has played 17 games this year and on Saturday declared his desire to stay at Punt Rd.
It is understood a one-year deal is currently being thrashed out.
“I’m one of many (out of contract at Richmond),” he said.
“I’ve just tried to play some good, consistent footy this year. Hopefully I can finish off the year strong, we get a couple of wins and it (a new contract) looks after itself.”
Grigg crossed from Carlton after the 2010 season and has been a durable star for the Tigers, playing 45 out of the past 46 games.
“I want to stay at Richmond, I want to be a Richmond player,” he told ABC.
“I’ve been fairly lucky with injury, I’ve been able to help the side out OK.
“Hopefully it works out that way and I’ll be wearing a Richmond jumper next year.
“I’m 28 now, I’m at the back end of my career. I understand I don’t have a lot of years left, I just want to win.”

Who's carrer gets peeed down the loo?
C Ellis?
Mcintosh?
Menadue?
Lambert?
Too many list blockers to progress
-
Assistant coach with Chaplin
-
Grigg has been better value than Edwards this year.
-
And yet you'd struggle to get a 5th rounder for grigg
-
oh look Shaun's a superstar and still a very important part of the side going forward.....

Dimmer just doesn't GET the fact that the players HE decided this team needed are all the reason why we are so poo. Well that and his coaching.
Houli, Grigg, Hunt. All 2nd - 3rd rate players expected to give us the structure to beat all teams with
Both better players and a better game.
FML.

Grigg has been better value than Edwards this year.
There was a time when titch was going good enough to be part ofte mystical claw future 22 blue print:
[quotehmm best 22 based on Mature players worth keeping and only includes players who have shown they can consistently play to a decent afl level.
FB: Grimes - #### - ####
HB: #### - Rance - ####
OB: #### - Cotchin - Miles
MID: Deledio - Martin - Yarran
HF: #### - Riewoldt - ####
FF: #### - #### - ####
INT: Vlastuin - McIntosh - Edwards - ####
Obviously it does not include juniors as none have reached a good level of afl consistency. The blank spots where possible should be filled with juniors or at seasons end with very good mature recruits.][/quote]
I'm not defending Edwards but highlighting he is seen as having an iota of talent at times by even the most harsh of critics.
Grigg I'm guessing has never be bestowed such an honour. Not will he. Cause grigg is as pure a list blocker as they come.
I feel strongly about this cause I'll be peeed if grigg gets another 1-2-3 years wen some kid/a with ability are mismanaged again.
If Prestia comes in that's only less spot again.

It's funny you keep Vlaustin
Trade big time
Choco Williams said on Friday, Nick can't play midfield as he has zero endurance
Very limited
Needs to be traded if that's the case
You keep Grigg , why . He can run all day .great endurance and heads the GPS charts at punt Rd
But the supporters and OER experts want to keep Vlaustin
Funny stuff
-
Yeah yeah vlastuin sucks.
Grigg rocks

More comedy gold from Trollstar.... :clapping

If it was about running, why don't we just get 22 Kenyans into the team? Their GPS numbers would head the AFL..... :whistle

With such insight it's hard to believe he was sacked from two clubs....

First I heard this with Vickery, now Vlastuin - this attitude and the fact these two bluechip draftees are still considered to have zero endurance and more importantly ALLOWED to still be this way after years in the system is a massive blight on the current regime. So he doesnt have endurance? so what? stuffing build it up! throw him in for spurts and push him harder, same for Vickery
there is no excuse for allowing players to not have endurance especially when we invest 1st bloody rounders in these players. >:(

Haven't you watched the Bulldogs or GWS lately

Last time I looked being able play footy I.e.making the right decisions with the ball, kicking it well, handballing and marking well and playing without fear was far more important than just running. Vlastuin is an inside mid. Grigg plays more outside where running is mandatory. We need more inside mids. You can always improve endurance too.

I'm not sure what this fuss is all about. Reality is Grigg needs to rate as a top 10 on our list to get another year.
Right now, it's touch and go which he realises.
It breeds a competitive mindset for the overall list.
His last 2 seasons have been better than Vlas.
-
Trade Vlaustuin to Collingwood in exchange for de goey (sp)
-
Am I getting this right?
We are comparing Grigg with Vlastuin?
Way too funny.
Get a grip Jack.
We understand you like Grigg but get serious!

I'm not saying Vlas can't play a Hodge-esque HB general role but clearly he is suited to play inside mid. He played really well against Hawthorn and Sydney and realistically should have been left in the guts when Cotchin returned from the broken cheek

Um ... The job of the club is to make him fit
Who drafted him?
Who teaches him running
FFs
No point being able to run like grigg and bellis if your a list blocking squib

Rioli's GPS is through the roof but you wanted him dropped? Changing the rules to suit your favourites (or your trolling)

Grigg was better than Vlas on Friday night and has had a better year overall.
I don't particularly rate Grigg, but he's been serviceable.
Not so sure about Floss. I think many of you are clinging onto his promising first year and are not honest in your appraisal. I think he's been largely disappointing since then.
Lack of endurance would probably make sense as to why he's not played in the midfield.
-
Richmond are a far worse side for not having vlastuin in it.
Not so grigg.
People that appreciate vlastuin have an understaning for th finer points of the game.

Dont think anyone questions Vlastuins potential but call a spade a spade - is vastly over rated on performances thus far in his career by tiger fans.

I think he stands out like dog's kahunas because he is fearless and generally far more direct than many of his teammates. Thus he doesn't have to do much to impress....
-
Grigg should be a depth player but he's comfortably going to finish high in our B&F - maybe top 5 .
And we wonder why we have fallen off the pace so much this season .
I would give him another year but its time for others to step up.

Or do we chuckle at the kool aid sucking clowns of the RCGC trying to deal with the cognitive dissonance; of knowing grigg and the rest of Dimmas mates being above average and yet the realities of the league ladder ...
-
And right on cue

Sack the board

I don't reckon Grigg is a better player but he's performed better this year.
You happy with Vlastuin's year?
-
Mark Stevens on Ch 7 news tonight said, with Grigg coming out of contract, there's other clubs chasing his services.

Thank god.
Although TBH if he's not worth a 2nd round pick at least I would be happy to keep him.

Later dude
-
So long buddy. In sure lids will follow you wherever you go
-
l would sign him again. has showed something this year
-
Some just don't get it!
The reason we are so poo is because player like Grigg run around getting cheap kicks that don't help us win games.
Ellis is the same but most have finally picked up on it.
Surely after watching the kids in the last 4 or 5 weeks you can see we NEED to find better than these types of players.
He is not a depth player, he is a poo list cloggr that will take us no where.
Would you rather see Grigg get a game or a kid like Short, Markov or George?
Hopefully the answer is the latter. And two of those kids were rookies.
-
Why re-sign any of these losers?
Nuke the joint and start again.
-
Trade
-
Given they have signed up Hampson believe Grigg will get a contract extension as well.
