Tigers will play finals in 2017: Hardwick
Liam Twomey
Herald Sun
16 August 2016
RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick believes his side will return to finals as soon as next year.
The Tigers have had a horror 2016 season, which was highlighted by giving up a 35 point three quarter time lead against Geelong to lose by four points on Sunday.
Richmond has won just eight games this year and looks set to undergo a major list overhaul in the off-season.
However, Hardwick is adamant the club will return to finals in 2017.
“I personally think it will be a quick bounce back,” he said.
“I think we will be back in finals next year. I’d be disappointed if we are not in finals next year. Winning finals is obviously the thing we are about and haven’t been successful thus far.
“We’ve been disappointed with that part but the potential I see in the players we have got … we are going to be, in my eyes, playing finals next year.”
Hardwick said the club would be targeting the best players available as part of its list management strategy this off-season.
The club has been heavily linked with Gold Coast Suns midfielder Dion Prestia.
“Dion Prestia is a nice player. There are a couple of nice players out there,” Hardwick said on Fox Footy.
While bringing in Prestia would likely command Richmond’s first round pick, the Tigers are planning on using that on some exciting young talent.
“You need to get the best available player. In saying that and where we are positioned at the moment, pick five or pick six I’m not exactly sure, you get to get a good player and that is going to be exciting for our football club.
“Ideally we’d love to be picking 10,11 or 12 or number 18. From our point of view we just need some better talent like most sides do at the moment.”
The Tigers will take on St Kilda on Saturday.

Ellis, Conca, Yarran,....

God, he's a deluded fool.
Looks like we are back to being content with just playing finals.
Winning would ruin Dimmer's record of most games coached without a finals win...ever.

'We'll be back in finals next year': Hardwick
AFL.com.au
16 August 2016
RICHMOND will make finals next year and captain Trent Cotchin will continue to lead the side, Tigers coach Damien Hardwick says.
The 13th-placed Tigers have endured a disappointing season and are yet to win a final under Hardwick since he assumed the coaching reigns in 2010.
Despite being handed their third successive elimination final defeat last year, expectations were high for the Tigers to again challenge for a finals berth.
Hardwick said he expected the club to qualify for September action in 2017.
"I personally think it'll be a quick bounce. I think we'll be back in finals next year," Hardwick told Fox Footy on Monday night.
"I'd be disappointed if we're not in finals next year.
"Winning finals is the thing we're about. We haven't been successful thus far … but (with) the potential I see and the players we've got, (if) we get all our personnel on (the) track, we're going to be playing finals next year."
Hardwick has coached the club in 155 games for 74 wins, 79 losses and two draws.
Richmond's last finals win came in the 2001 semi-final over Carlton.
Meanwhile, Hardwick was emphatic when asked if Cotchin would remain in his captaincy role beyond this season: "Absolutely, no question."
The Tigers' coach also reaffirmed his support for out-of-contract key forward Ty Vickery, whose performances – like Cotchin's – have at times come under scrutiny.
"Ty, to me, is an important player. When he plays well we generally win," Hardwick said.
"He didn't have a great game on the weekend (against Geelong) but I stand by Ty.
"Long-term he's part of a forward line that I think we need him in the side to play good footy."
Vickery, who is a restricted free agent, has appeared in 17 games this season and registered 26 goals.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has forecast finals football for the Tigers in 2017
Tom Morris
Foxsports
16 August 2016
RICHMOND has no plans to undertake a full scale list rebuild with finals football firmly on the agenda in 2017.
In a bold statement of intent, Tigers coach Damien Hardwick forecast a return to September action next season despite an underwhelming 2016 campaign in which the club has won eight games.
“I personally think it will be a quick bounce,” Hardwick told Fox Footy’s On the Couch on Monday evening.
“I think we will be back in finals next year. I would be disappointed if we weren’t.
“The potential I see in the players … I think we will be playing finals next year.”
In 2013, the Tigers lost to Carlton in an elimination decider despite leading by 26 points at halftime.
A year later Port Adelaide booted eight goals to one in a scintillating opening term to finish Richmond’s season prematurely. And last season, it was the Tigers who again surrendered a halftime advantage before falling to North Melbourne.
“Winning finals is obviously what we’re about,” Hardwick said.
“We haven’t been successful thus far and I’ve been disappointed in that part.”
Speaking more broadly on Richmond’s list management strategy, Hardwick refuted suggestions that there has not been enough evolution among the playing group in recent years.
“We’ve probably turned over 40 per cent of our list over the last two years,” he said.
“People often say Richmond need to rebuild but we started that two years ago. The potential for us on our list is there.
“We had to take a little step back to take a step forward. That step has been a little bit bigger than what we would have liked. That’s not to say we can’t make that step forward at some stage.”
Richmond is currently 13th on the ladder with two rounds remaining. They host St Kilda this Saturday at the MCG.

The dumbest coach in the AFL since Mark Harvey by a long way

He promised the same thing this year.

Damien Hoodwink just wants to see how many absurd things he can say and get away with it.
-
Were a chance to play finals next year if the AFL replaces the "eight" with a final "ten" - although I suspect we would finish eleventh.
-
I actually agree with Hardwick
As we have all seen over the past 2 weeks
The inclusion of Houli has seen dramatic improvement
Hopefully getting a fit McIntosh and Yarran will assist the back 6
Let's don't forget Corey Ellis either
Menadue will improve also
Trade properly and land a big fish and we play finals

Chances are we'll have are fair share of injuries next year too....
That and other sides around us may improve more means we may also go down.....
In short, nothing is anywhere near guaranteed for next year.

There's a fairly conventional wisdom in footy that you usually learn a lot more from a loss than you do a win....bearing that in mind, it was interesting to note that Chris Scott said on 360 that Geelong would be focusing on what went wrong in the first three quarters more so than what went right the last whilst Halfstep said the exact opposite on OTC half an hour later.....says it all really.....

‘I’d love to play under Dimma’: Browny
Max Laughton
FOX SPORTS
17 August 2016
BRISBANE Lions champion Jonathan Brown says he would love to play under embattled Richmond coach Damien Hardwick.
Hardwick’s Tigers have slumped to an 8-12 record in 2016 after qualifying for three straight finals series, with some critics calling for change at the club.
But on Monday night’s On the Couch, Hardwick forecast a return to September action next season.
“I personally think it will be a quick bounce,” Hardwick told Fox Footy.
“I think we will be back in finals next year. I would be disappointed if we weren’t.
“The potential I see in the players … I think we will be playing finals next year.”
It was that sort of confidence in the players that pushed Brown to praise Hardwick on Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam & Browny on Tuesday morning.
“I’d love to play with this bloke because he has been whacked around and has been fairly criticised … however a bloke to come out and back his team like, I wouldn’t mind playing for this bloke,” Brown said.
“(By saying) it’s OK to accept pressure, and don’t have to run away from the pressure, I think he is letting his boys know, we are not rebuilding for two or three years, we are coming back strong next year. As a supporter … I’d be pretty proud of my coach last night.”
The former Coleman medallist said he appreciated how direct Hardwick was about the topic of finals footy.
“I think he will receive some criticism about that but again, if I am one of his players, I don’t want him dilly dallying around that subject,” Brown said.
“I like that as a player, that is filling me with confidence, you know what we have delivered some absolutely bloody crap on the field this year but our coach is still backing us in which is good as a player.”
Brown connected Hardwick’s confidence to something legendary Brisbane Lions coach Leigh Matthews told him early in his career on a similar topic.
“We were going well and we came up against a side, we were the favourites, that kept saying all week in the press that we are the underdogs we’ve got nothing to lose,” Brown said.
“Leigh Matthews got us in a meeting that Friday, that is an absolutely load of crap, you’ve got everything to lose.
“People who come out and say ah we’re the underdogs he said they are scared, they are afraid of the pressure, they won’t run towards the flames, they are not ready to accept the pressure, embrace the pressure, otherwise you won’t be able to perform under pressure.
“From that day on I used it as a thing, accept your expectations and take them on.”
Brown also praised Hardwick’s backing of captain Trent Cotchin who many have criticised during a disappointing season.
“I’ll tell you what I liked last night, he backed his captain in Trent Cotchin,” he said.
“(He) said he will definitely be the captain of the Richmond football club and was strong, was emphatic.
“If I’m Trent Cotchin sitting at home, Geez that gives me a lot of confidence, a lot of strength and security that I’m the right man for the job. Fantastic big tick there.”

Houli is a clanger and turnover king. yes he looks silky and yes he kicks more down the middle but this is where it ends with him. we need a better outside player off half back if we are any chance of implementing a decent gameplan.
-
when he turns it over, he makes it look silky?

Silk worm?

Silky play and kick off the boot.
Turnovers often and Richmond in poot.

We rank number 1 in turnover difficulty and execution. Houli won the individual gold with a score of 9.966

Jack backs Tiger coach’s bold finals call
Ben Waterworth
FOX SPORTS
18 August 2016
STAR forward Jack Riewoldt has backed his coach’s bold statement that Richmond can quickly “bounce back” and return to the finals as soon as next season.
Tigers coach Damien Hardwick told Fox Footy’s On The Couch on Monday night that the club had no plans to undertake a full scale list rebuild, claiming he saw ample potential in the playing list and that finals was firmly on the agenda in 2017.
After three consecutive elimination final defeats, the Tigers won’t feature in this year’s finals series, with Hardwick’s men sitting 13th on the ladder with an 8-12 record.
But Riewoldt told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 that he was confident about the Tigers producing a quick return to the finals.
“I just echo the sentiments Damien’s spoken about. It’s a strong, bold opinion, but we’re not here to finish 12th or 13th,” Riewoldt said on Tuesday night.
“We want to play finals footy, we want to play games of finals.
“We’ve had a really poor year this year and a really disappointing year.
“The senior leaders in the football club and the senior players really feel like we can get back to where we think we deserve to be sooner rather than later.”
Hardwick’s confidence in his playing group and staunch prediction came as a surprise to some, especially considering the Tigers’ inconsistency this season and a lack of depth on the list.
But five-time Hawthorn premiership player Dermott Brereton believes Hardwick used his statement to give players extra belief and motivation heading into 2017.
“He’s got to make his players believe in him, believe in his faith,” Brereton told AFL 360.
“He can’t smack them round. You know your players better than anyone else. If he believes those players are going to respond to a smacking, he’ll give the smacking. But there must be a little bit of fragility that he wants to keep them thinking we can do it.
“That might be his modus operandi.”
However Brereton doesn’t share the same belief as Hardwick when it comes to Richmond’s list, predicting the Tigers wouldn’t be featuring in finals in 2017.
“I think they’ll be borderline, better than this year, but every time they say ‘we’ll get Prestia’ or whoever, others teams are getting other players too. So do they improve as much?” Brereton said.

Perhaps our mindfulness coach is telling those within the 4 walls that if you really really believe then it will come true.
-
They don't realise, saying things doesn't make them happen.
They need a new game, new coach and a rebuild.
stuffn imbeciles running the show.
Sad.

I love our history, I love our jumper, I love Matty Knights, the Flea and Richo.
But at the moment I struggle to love anything about RFC. Based on the embarrassing delusion that is surrounding the club. We arent good enough we are in no man's land with no confidence.
Sure add a few decent players and we may get back to finals. But we arent going ahead of any of the top 6. Absolute delusion road to no where. Cash in on some over rated blue chip players and abuse the future draft picks scheme.
