Richmond has elevated talented, young, tall utility Mabior Chol from the rookie list to the senior list, in the lead-up to the final home-and-away round of the 2016 season.
Chol, 198cm and 78kg, was the Tigers’ second pick (No. 30 overall) in the AFL rookie draft held late last year.
The Sudanese-born, now 19-year-old, has impressed at VFL level with Richmond throughout this season, playing both in defence and up forward.
He replaces Nathan Drummond on Richmond’s senior list.

Good luck to him.

Even though I would have preferred Butler, it's good to see Mabior getting a game, albeit only one.
He's not on my avatar for nothing!
Good luck son!
-
Definitely.
More Japanese players.
-
He will be our best Sudanese player yet
-
God I hope they play him up forward. He is not a natural defender.

Going by Derwood's past performances, he'll line up on Buddy for the confidence boost that will give him....

Then dropped (well, if it wasn't the last round) for under performing not to be seen again for 12 months

Given a game to give him a taste of what its like at the top level. He will never be seen again when he breaks down & we get demolished by 100 pts ;D

Haven't managed to get to the VFL at all this year bar one half....so can anybody tell me how much Chol has been played in the ruck this year? Regardless of what else he can do around the ground, I would find it quite extraordinary if a bloke with his leap isn't being developed in that position at all.....

I've been to 5 games live, not 4 quarters of all games but I've seen enough.
Chol has wasted away down back in a position that he will never be good at. Decent defenders just like decent forwards are inbuilt to play those positions. There are some that can play both well but not many IMO.
Play this kid forward and let him just concentrate on just getting the footy. Down back he is lost and doesn't know whether to go at the footy or try to defend his opponent.
-
Cheers. Still like to see him given more ruck time though. He was drafted as a ruck/forward....with these types, it seem in recent times as though we simply just give up on putting any serious development into the ruck aspect of their games pretty early on, as evidenced by Vickery & McBean.

The Tigers will unveil exciting youngster Mabior Chol against the Swans after he's worked hard to add 10kg of bulk to his frame in his first season at Punt Road.

Once this guy gets a tank and learns where to run, he will be a real weapon! :clapping

can't wait
-
Disappointing - was at least expecting him to play much better than McBean has at AFL level considering he's supposedly been ahead of him since the first NAB Challenge match..... :shh
-
Looked shell shocked to me.
Funnily enough he looked more comfortable down back, which is strange, seems how we keep hearing on here that he is a natural forward and not a natural back man......

Well it may be due to the fact he's played the last 10 weeks down back.... :whistle

His point was exciting :pray

Ok then, if it only takes 10 weeks for a first year player to over ride all his natural, ingrained since birth instincts, whats the issue?
Or does that actually mean that he always was a natural back man and he was being played in the wrong position as a junior?

If he starred down back, I would agree with you but he didn't. He just looked mildly more involved. I would say that would be easy considering how little and how haphazardly the ball was coming into our forward line and how systematically and regularly it was entering our backline....
-
wouldnt that systematic and regular ball entry into the backline be even more overwhelming for a player playing his first game, before he is ready, already looking shell shocked from the carnage unfolding around him, and not being a natural back man?

I would have thought his two disposals summed up his game. I wouldn't conclude he was natural anything on that performance.

neither would I, nor have I
