Roos delivers parting clip to Tigers

Jay Clark
Herald Sun
7 September 2016

Outgoing Melbourne coach Paul Roos has used the tumult at Richmond to highlight the strength and unity of Melbourne’s administration.

In his farewell speech at Melbourne’s best-and-fairest on Tuesday night, Roos said the Demons had completed a remarkable on-field transformation from the rabble he took over three years ago and declared he “would love nothing more” than to see a Melbourne premiership under new coach Simon Goodwin in the next few years.

But there was also a clip for the Tigers’ board challenges as Roos lauded the stability of Melbourne’s board through testing times in recent years.

“Hopefully this doesn’t make a headline tomorrow and it’s not the point of it but what we saw yesterday was a club that is (in) somewhat disarray, in the Richmond Football Club,” Roos said.

“And I think there hasn’t been a footy club that has been through as much as the Melbourne Football Club.

“And we’ve never got to the point as a football club where there has been breakaway groups and past players etc think they can overthrow boards and I think that’s a credit to every single person that has followed the Melbourne Football Club.”

Glad some one outside the club finally said it who is not a journo and is more believable.

The whole RFC is a delusional black hole

Melbourne - had their most important match in a decade and were defeated by a team who had lost their previous nine .

If we had Watts he would be the most widely lambasted player in our ranks far in front of your favourites

Roos wouldn't pee on us if we were on fire, his hatred is genuine stemming from his time as a Fitzroy player.  We shafted his club when they were down, Gale was part of that deal iirc.  I can't say I blame him, I never liked dirty dealing and it makes any whinging by us hollow.  We did it to a club on their knees.

Melbourne have owned us the last three years so we cannot get all indignant.

You would think the team could use this as motivation next year but they don't seem capable of rising to defend themselves and the club.

Mr exit strategy.  Knows he'll be exposed if he hangs around too long so plays the messiah role and runs.  Overrated.

Agreed. He is celebrated far beyond his capabilities.

In both stints at coaching he had the afl peeing in his pocket.

I think it was the Sydney game style that got him the cudos.  It was revolutionary for AFL.

Sad we were so mean to the Roy boys. I saw Jeff Hogg play for them and he was done by then. I knew a Roy boy who hasn't watched footy since or the last time I saw them it was true.

The one where you flood back and the game results in total of about 10 goals kicked?

At the time it was interesting because it was new but now it's just poo. It's what we're copying IMHO very badly.

Geelong offered him a nice parting clip too.

Maybe we could be like Melbourne though, wave the white flag and get the AFL to pay out our current coach, the next coach, a new CEO and wipe off some debts while they're at it.

The point is our club has been poo for a long, long time.
We are a laughing stock!
As someone else said, I glad someone other than an idiot journo called us out.
Our record speaks for itself in the last 35 years.

I'd take Paul Roos in a heart beat as he demands respect from his players. He doesn't try to be everybody's mate and he is willing to make tough calls.
Our coach embarrasses himself and our club every time he opens his mouth.
