Clearly, after a number of years having off field success (more members) I am posing the question - given the poor on field result along with the indignant and defensive off field leadership - where do you think membership will settle next year?
-
We do have a great passionate supporter base, but there is also the show boaters that jumped on when all started to look like turning, still reckon 65+
Love to pull mine in protest but won't 38 years consecutive next year, too late for me :banghead :scream I've been ruined
-
55 k
-
63k-65k for mine
-
I'll be one of the idiots resigning for next year. Closing in on my platinum status (dare to dream).
Somewhere in the 65-70k for mine. Balme rejoining us will settle some of the disenchantment.
-
Wheres the 80+ option?
-
Wheres the 80+ option?
I couldn't come up with a sound rationale for that option - in fact there's a case for a sub 50 option when looking at a Carlton or even an Essendon
-
If we win the first 10 games then 80+ is possible. What is likely is we go 4 and 6 and 60k members.
-
Under 50
-
Going by the arrogance shown by the current board and continual snake oil salesmanship directed at members and supporters and in light of Hardwicks tenure being rewarded with a two year extension, the new slogan should be.
"2017 in 2017"
-
Depends on how we reshape the footy department incl new assistants.
How we trade and how we draft(perceived view).
Think Balmes appointments has at least made those who were gonski to wait and see what happens
-
They can reshuffle all they want as no-one here is renewing memberships. Spent plenty of $$$$ & we refuse to pay for sideways backwards football when you got good capable players up forward.
They cut their own throats & many feel the same way. :scream

As in the forum or in your mind?

As in the forum or in your mind?
As in the 4 memberships we buy & many of the people l know have had a enough of the aweful style RFC play. Reminds me of Wallace days of indirect football.

Its worse.

Speak for yourself
-
Also, be cautious. People get a bit of a superiority complex going on when they think someone isn't a member
-
Thanks to a great family holiday last week and to a lesser extent the glowing incompetence of the "Focus on Footy" Circus Troupe my enthusiasm for 2017 and my love for this club has been rekindled
Will be renewing; proudly but to what extent depends on the circus troupe
If they take power I down grade. They lose or preferably crawl back under their rock and I maintain.
-
My family will go from 2 x 3121 memberships and a kids membership down to 2 x 3 game memberships.
I was going to completely give it away, but the 3 game membership suits.
-
If they Sack Hardwick will buy 5 memberships.
If not, will renew my own!
-
You're not a true supporter if you're not a member go support another team.

Cannot maintain my current memberships if Phil Allison ends up on the board. When you know someone and don't agree with how they tried every means possible to get on the board expect for nominating and facing the members. Well. ...
Also, cannot supoort 2 people who have only become members so they could get gifted a seat on the board.
It's that simple, so yep for the first time ever I am putting conditions on my support of the club.

Not a true supporter of the club Will. Through thick and thin. In any weather. Is it ok to not renew if you don't agree with the coach extension?

So with that logic, those two who weren't members have not stuck through thick and thin in the past. So they are not true supporters of our club. You shouldn't want them either Harry.

They're members though.
DGAF if they're members or not. Our current duds are members but doubt they watch any games or could even list 3 players.
Our president thinks her club is black and gold.

Read what i wrote Harry
Said i will be renewing, that's not in question. So please show me some respect and not twist things. Unlike some who said they eill not renew while Hardwick is coach, I will remain a member
But if certain people wind up on the board, then instead of getting $6.5k out of me they get less.
But not renewing will not happen
Clear?

How can they be supporters? They may follow or barrack for Richmond but by definition cannot be supporters. Supporters support the club in real terms. That means putting their hard earned money on the line and give it to the club. If you don't do that, how on earth can you support the club? Do you think the club has some sort of telepathic sensor that can feel the barracking from afar and make it feel better?

they wave a flag, cheer the boys on down the race, sing the song after a win. Gate receipts is also revenue.
Next time I'm at a game I'll let all the non members know they're not real supporters and I'll report back here. lol

AFL matches should be member exclusive events. Stuff the plodders who turn up once in a while, we don't need their money or their barracking.

Correct. All non members can GAGF

If you only go once in a while, what's wrong with buying a three game membership? More money will go to the club you supposedly support.

They should buy a full year membership if they want to support the club. 3 gamers aren't real supporters

Some people can only afford a 3 gamer. Great that they help out as much as they can.

We get it champ, you're not a member.
Happy to criticize the club from the Board Members to the Boot strappers but not quite enough of a fan to pay up.
Move along.

Hamlet will give you your answer. Act 3 Scene 2 - somewhere in there!
-
lol membership cop and reads Shakespeare. Diversity.
-
The point you've missed is that the person who only goes to one or two games a year is not going to prop up the club financially with those measly gate takings. A true SUPPORTER is a member of the club, even if it is just a 3 gamer. The other person is a follower of the club and no doubt barracks for the club, but is not a SUPPORTER by definition. I'm not saying that they love the club any more or less too. They just are not supporters.
-
Ok I'll make sure I correct any non members when they call themselves supporters.
What if they make a donation or buy merchandise? What should we call them?
-
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's stuff, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
3 WITCH. Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingrediants of our caldron.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

What if they make a donation or buy merchandise? What should we call them?
It would be highly unusual for a non member to make donations. Why wouldn't they donate and get a membership back?
As for people that just buy merchandise, I would call them consumers.
-
Incorrect

A Collingwood supporter being interviewed by the police for stealing a car.

Guess it depends on your definition of "a while". My old man lives in Portugal so can only go to a game once in a while i.e. max once a year.
Do you think your family support you? Or have you peed them off because they don't support you financially?

Nothing wrong with just barracking for the tigers. You're just not classified as a supporter IMHO.

Not you. The person that just comes to one game a year. They can be called a follower of the RFC and a person that barracks for them. Just not a supporter. Just my opinion as I look at supporters as people that financially support the club. They are the life blood of the club - its members.
-
What about me. l don't need a membership to attend games being a MCC member.
l'm just throwing money away each year. & l feel like l'm throwing it away supporting their trash style of football. Does that mean l'm not a supporters anymore or just a wise old Monk :snidegrin

Funny. I consider a lot of people who are members but chuck tanties and bag the club relentlessly (or dump manure) as not supporters. Since when has financial support been the only form of support?

Thomas was out there pooing his pants when carlton steamrolled us from 9th. Or he was in the coaches box sucking lollies wondering WTF is going on. Or perhaps he rubber stamped half steps extension. Yep Thomas made us a laughing stock.

Funny because I just met a patient today who I asked if they followed the football and they said they used to be a bulldogs supporter but now isn't. I asked him who he barracked for now and he said bulldogs! So I asked him to explain and he said he stopped being a member 5 years ago so he didn't classify himself as a supporter!
This is 100% true. So I'm not the only one that thinks this way.

Mate, I think if you ask anyone who they support they just say their team regardless of if they are a member or not.
You are using the word "support" way to literately.
I think if you use the word "member" most assume you pay your money.
I've also got a storey for you, I know a guy that is highly educated but is a moron when it comes to common sense things. True story.

Not you. The person that just comes to one game a year. They can be called a follower of the RFC and a person that barracks for them. Just not a supporter. Just my opinion as I look at supporters as people that financially support the club. They are the life blood of the club - its members.
Only just read the last few pages of this topic and doc you are way off the mark IMO. Way off!!
True story.
I think you missed the point of what I was saying.
There is no doubt that being a supporter of a club has entered the vernacular to mean you just barrack for the club. My argument has been that you really cannot be a supporter unless you support the team in some way that is either financial (member) or by helping the club somehow (e.g. volunteer work).
That is what a true supporter would do. That is what it used to mean many years ago. When I was a kid you always asked others who they barracked for. You never asked who they supported. The term supporter back then was not used unless you were talking about members. When you talked about numbers of people at the ground it would be referred to as "fans" of either teams.
So to repeat, a true supporter is someone that actually supports the club in a way that is significant. I understand that nowadays the term is used differently but not in it's correct (original) form. The old patient I spoke to obviously had the same idea.
And no, he wasn't a psyche patient. If he was I might have run into a few of you in the ward! :lol
