'Sneaky' ankle reco for Richmond star Jack Riewold
September 20, 2016 9:07 PM
STAR Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt has revealed he had a "sneaky" ankle reconstruction during what was thought to be a routine post-season surgery to clean out his troubled ankle.
Riewoldt rolled his ankle badly in the Tigers' round five loss to Melbourne. He played the following week and did not miss a game all year.
However, he had an operation to clean out his ankle after the Tigers' campaign ended and also underwent surgery to fuse a finger on his right hand.
Riewoldt told Fox Footy on Tuesday night that the ankle surgery was a bit more serious than he had expected.
"I thought I was going in for a bit of ankle clean-up," Riewoldt said.
"Turns out I had a sneaky little reco on a lateral ligament there.
"I knew I had to have something done but it went a little bit further than what I thought. I had a finger fused as well."
Riewoldt is currently in a moon boot. He said the surgery would not have a major impact on his pre-season but he expected to be carefully managed prior to the Christmas break.
"Up until Christmas I would say I would probably be monitored and won't be on my feet as early as I usually would be," Riewoldt said.
"But I've had one before on the same ankle and I bounced back from that pretty well."
Riewoldt kicked 48 goals this season and said the ankle injury had not been an issue for him during the year.

We had to keep playing him in order to cement 13th spot..... :clapping
Don't know why they haven't put him in cotton wool and let him get over his injury? Maybe because we need some experience up forward to help our kids and we all know Vickery and Griff can't provide that
What's the bet Riewoldt & Cotchin go in for "clean-up" surgery yet again this off-season? We never learn.

Not that hard to foresee something that happens nearly every year..... :shh
-
Can see another Lids scenario at the start of next season, flare up of Jacks ankle leads to him missing the first 6 rounds. The more things change the more they stay the same.

It was important to shape the 8

Oh the hypocrisy :lol

Our medical have been incompetent for a decade. Putting Richo back on to tear his hammy. Playing Maric with bad hips needing an op. This. Lids starting late for the last 2 yeyears. It's medical and man management.

What gives me the irits about this one is we could have played TV and McBean or Griff. We had options but we stupidly didn't use em

We needed an extra man on the wing.

The type of selfish players l don't like having at clubs. These type hold back football clubs & blooding new talent. It's causes splits among the playing group. The reason why goals are not scored because they miss simple set shots. Selfish :banghead

This is just too funny, but i have to ask the question - why on earth wasnt he put on ice when our season was done in order to be ready for preseason day 1?
just got to accept we are a dumb footy club that will never ever learn.

Should have played him in the back pocket so he could learn to defend! :lol

Man you're way off the mark. Pretty sure Jack led the league for assists last year. He's far from selfish.

TM has always had a thing for JR

You really get off on the trash this club & its players are dishing up. He struggled to kick 40 metres. He missed many critical goals & your satisfied. You must not watch many games cause our scoring was very low this year. Assists for what letting the opposition team get the ball out of their defensive 50 by standing off his man 10 metres :lol get real that ain't football. That's pee heart tactics of a club that won't fess up that it's dishing up trash. If your happy that a player at 60% is holding back talent like McBean then you best walk under a bus cause that lad suffered in his football & got chopped when many of us can see he can play football if someone didn't put himself before the club. Another club will pick up McBean & we left with maybe 2 year Junk time Jack :lol right oh you know your football NOT

Like I said, had a thing for him since day 1

Are you trolling about that McBean stuff TM ?

Are you trolling about that McBean stuff TM ?
No l'm not trolling. McBean had been at the club for 3 or 4 seasons & the lad does have talent. But when your confidence is low because your doing your best & not being rewarded for your hard work than you can become lost & it shows when you put on the big stage. I reckon if he was given a fair go he would have produced.
Why would the club & player risk serious injury which could have required major surgery than to step aside & give a player who can play football a red hot chance. Not at Tigerland. The same as Dea at the Bombers now. l always knew he could play. His had 1 good season. Let see where he goes from next year.
But if you not going to rest injured players who clearly struggle during the game & can't kick critical goals at the crunch of the game then why the hell draft good kids if you not going to play them. Geishen done the same as coach & l hated him for it. Hardwack is no different the players are running the show. The medical & fitness staff are poor.
A Junk time Jack loses more games than he wins for us :thumbsdown

not being rewarded for your hard work
McBean couldn't spell hard work :lol
