Next up in Sam Lloyd.
In his third season, Lloyd played every game for the first time in his career to take his AFL games tally to 42. He kicked 3 goals in a match on 5 occasions: vs Adel in R3 (16 disp. & 6 marks), vs Melb in R5 (14 disp. & 7 tackles), vs Syd in R8 (15 disp., 7 marks & 3 tackles), vs Ess in R17 (15 disp.) and vs Geel in R21.

How did we all rate Lloyd's year?
-
Between 6-7
Took his game to a new level this year after being screwed by the sub rule in previous seasons. However, still went missing in a number of games, though he isn't alone in that manner clearly. Good season by him though, hopefully he will improve even more.
btw who gave him a 1? seriously? haha
-
6.5
Natural goal kicker, one player that actually plays where he should.
A bit better/faster delivery into the forward line (and heres one for the books) maybe play Riewoldt up forward also and more than worthy of keeping his spot in the side.
Better than Morton that went to swans and snagged a flag, just for arguments sake.
-
I gave him a 7, but when you think about it 35 goals from a small fwd in our side this year is a bloody good effort and he probably deserves an 8. Natural goalkicker happy to see him doing well
-
It is a bloody good effort
-
"Yeah we are playing him chf"
"It's not his best spot and I've had 7 years to figure it out"
-
Good effort from Sammy. Has shown he is reliable at the basics of the game while also showing some X factor. 30-40 goals from a small forward is a very good effort, but he also had entries for Goal of the Year & Mark of the Year this season. Gets a 7 from me.
-
7
Improved to become our crucial small forward
-
I gave e him an 8. 35 goals with our delivery was excellent.

Most of them in games where he had to really earn a kick :clapping
-
Great season considering our gameplan, plus goal the year IMO against Sydney
-
6. Just a player, some like G Freeborn win you flags but most play 80-120 games with the odd highlight to reflect upon.
Pleased for him individually but I believe as a club this type of recruiting of rookies is flawed.

"The odd highlight" is harsh. He kicked several of our best goals for the year and took some of our best marks too.
35 is a good return.
-
One of very few shinning lights of the year.
He got his body into AFL standard, obviously from hard work which shows me this kid is serious about his AFL career.
Congrats to him for that but let's hope he continues to improve.

Actually, if I overlay your theory of drafting probability then I'd say very few ever get to 50 let alone 80 games which is a testament to his application
-
Agree with comment by BT one of the few shining lights this year. Definitely improved on last year. Is a good kick for goal and is a proven goal kicker including under pressure. Developing into a clever small forward. Hope his improvement continues into next season.
-
Decent year but would look to trade him while his perceived value is high. Doesn't have the speed and intensity to take his game to another level. Top 25 pick and I would trade.

:thumbsup Absolutely correct. Wont get any better or more valuable. Doesn't get enough of the ball but is a classy finisher. He has been the perfect moneyball player. Could get a low second rounder or high third for him right now.
-
rubbish guys, Jeff garlett in his prime and a proven 40+ goalkicker multiple times went for picks 60 and 70. We arent getting a 2nd or 3rd rounder for lloyd.
-
You easy get a third rounder for Lloyd.
-
Garlett > Lloyd, precedent set, hed go for a 4th rounder
-
Garlett > Lloyd, precedent set, hed go for a 4th rounder
In ability yes. However, he had other "issues" that devalued him significantly.
-
I love the notion of swapping a player who just kicked 35 goals and was clearly our second best forward for a pick that will most likely be a bust.
sound logic indeed.....
-
Garlett > Lloyd, precedent set, hed go for a 4th rounder
Dont let the facts stand in the way of a good story hey Tony? Lloyd's year was clearly better than Garletts:http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=15&type=A&pid1=3189&pid2=3976&fid1=S&fid2=S (http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=15&type=A&pid1=3189&pid2=3976&fid1=S&fid2=S)

aren't you ignoring facts yourself?

Are you for real or taking the pee?
In his career to date garlett has kicked
48
43
40
39
and twice in subpar years kicked 29
and youre going to sit there with a straight face and say lloyd would fetch more than him?

ridiculous isnt it?
-
Surprised me this year. Showed he's got more talent than I expected. His game against Adel this year especially highlights this.
I have him a 6 because I felt he went missing at times but he's got good forward qualities. Knows where the sticks are and knows how to find good position.
Still, if we're going to be a better team he won't be getting a regular start.
Good work Sam! :thumbsup

Or we can trade hunt morris elton or batchelor for a second rounder. Easy.

Or mcbean
Oh wait

That's sound logic. Our fringe players arn't worth 2nd rounders, therefore our mid-tier players must be....

I think the assumption here is that Lloyd has peaked.
-
yeah, think through only half of the equation.
More sound reasoning
-
Close thread I have it on good authority that unless you played AFL you can't comment on the players.
-
Yep sorry they are all elite and all should be held onto at all costs.

And not aboriginal
I'm happy to say it :)
Speaking of such what's Matt Rendell doing these days
-
He was a standout.
-
Bloke was probably our most improved player and 35 goals in such a terrible season with disgraceful forward delivery was an excellent return.
8 and he deserves it. If he can take his game to another level I will be very happy but even if he stays where he is now it's hard to be disappointed.

no surprise that you resort this.

Harry is your surname 'Ness'?
-
Lloyd and Dusty are the only real positives from this year .
Hopefully Rioli , Markov and Short can kick on too .

Rance?

Rance?
Foolish me ....of course him too.
