Bicks weighs your AFL team’s chances with his 2017 preview
Mark Bickley,
The Advertiser
December 28, 2016
FORMER Crows captain Mark Bickley has an in-depth look at the 18 AFL clubs and their strengths and weaknesses ahead of the 2017 season.
RICHMOND
When Brent Deledio, at 29, leaves to chase a premiership, it is clear he’s not that confident of what’s going on at Punt Rd. The Tigers have added Dion Prestia and Josh Caddy, to support Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin, so the midfield is solid, but the squad appears light on key position players, and look out if Alex Rance gets injured.
Gem
Daniel Rioli started his AFL career at 65kg, and while he was light, his speed and skill around goal was a positive for the Tigers. He played 18 games in his debut season and with a bigger body and more composure, will be one to watch out for next year.
Under the pump
Damian Hardwick enters his eighth season as Richmond Coach with a 48 per cent win/loss ratio and without a finals win. Not ideal when your board has instability and your fans are getting increasingly impatient. He needs to settle on an effective game style, as ball movement was ineffective at times last year.
Forecast
Like Collingwood, Richmond needs early wins to keep the Melbourne media at bay, and with games against Carlton, Collingwood and Brisbane in its first month, it has every chance of doing so. The season gets harder after that and I predict the Tigers are in for another tough year, dropping a spot to 14th.

Ladder prediction:
1. Sydney

10. Port Adelaide
11. Essendon
12. Fremantle
13. Collingwood
14. Richmond
15. Gold Coast

Should be good positioning for the draft
-
Hate to say it but I agree, 14th may even be optimistic.
Our hopes will depend on changed game plan and ourplayers ranked 8-24 improving.
Will be a long season and i predict a minimum of 3 meltdowns on OER and SEN

For the season or per week??

I reckon 14th-16th is about right.
The meltdowns will come with lack of efforts which usually result in the margin blowing out.
Usually the first one for the season (cue the annual early vs Melbourne game) is the most brutal

I have zero expectations.
The optimist in me hopes that 2016 was an aberration but I'm not holding my breath.
Think its very likely we will have a sacked coach next year.

Will not matter how the season pans out we are guaranteed obligatory OER meltdowns
Biggest one will be if we make the 8, win a final or 2 and they give out anther contract extension :rollin
-
I don't believe this. With the new assistants coming on board and change of game plan may be a suprise if only Dimma can change his hard headed ways.

WP, do you ever walk away from a game where we have really played appallingly and think, 'geez, the forum will get ugly now - I'm in for some extra work moderating after that loss'

What about when OE posts an update from or an article about Peggy?

I'm sure the mods are well aware they're in for a tough when whenever anything at the club happens. They can do no right

I've walked away from games when we've won and known this place is going to get ugly despite winning ;D

WP (final question from me), amongst the volume of posts have you ever read a witty and hilarious post that has left yourself laughing for days? I.e. Do you find the site provides a level of comedic value?

Yes absolutely and its usually from the most unlikely source
and yes to your 2nd part
Lots of very funny things get posted here, some of which I'm sure aren't meant to be funny but with my warped sense of humour they are. But some comedic gold most definitely

Geelong 4th not good for us

16.
Like to watch peg and Ben squirm like the political pigs they are, trying to explain yet another consecutive year of failure under their reign.
Failure - the new stability. 2017.
