29 December 2016
IT'S LITTLE surprise the two teams that faced off in the biggest game of last season possess the best backlines in the competition.
1. Sydney
2. Bulldogs
3. GWS
4. Geelong
5. Adelaide
6. Hawthorn
7. West Coast
8. Melbourne
9. St Kilda
10. North Melbourne
11. Port Adelaide
12. Gold Coast
13. Collingwood
14. Carlton
15. Fremantle
16. Richmond

HF: Josh Caddy, Jack Riewoldt, Shane Edwards
F: Daniel Rioli, Ben Griffiths, Sam Lloyd
Foll: Shaun Hampson, Trent Cotchin, Dion Prestia
I/C: Anthony Miles, Corey Ellis, Connor Menadue, Jayden Short
Depth
Midfield: Reece Conca, Kane Lambert, Toby Nankervis, Jack Graham, Taylor Hunt, Ivan Maric, Jacob Townsend, Ivan Soldo
Forwards: Ben Lennon, Shai Bolton, Daniel Butler, Mabior Chol, Callum Moore, Tyson Stengle
Defenders: Jake Batchelor, Oleg Markov, Steven Morris, Nathan Broad, Nathan Drummond, Todd Elton, Ryan Garthwaite, Jason Castagna
Richmond's defence is headed by one of the very best there is – three-time All Australian Alex Rance. But it all becomes a bit workmanlike from there, and you had to feel for the over-worked Rance at times last season. What the Richmond back half needs is a bit more star power and 2017 shapes as a year when the Tigers need to have a good look at the likes of Oleg Markov and Nathan Broad to see what they might bring into the mix.
17. Essendon
18. Brisbane

Morris and Batchelor...depth.... :help
-
I'd play Moore back & Elton forward, though both can swing.....still think Astbury would be a better forward than back, though that's not saying much...
Word is Garthwaite was drafted to cover both ends ...was apparently a gun CHF in juniors.... :shh
-
Were better then that to me .2 seasons ago we were in the top half of best defences what's changed Chaplin leaving or any other personal no??.For me has alot to do with Dimmas game plan fullstop and our defence always under pressure!.I think as soon as Leppitsch left to our backine went backwards to.
-
well, chaplin leaving is something that has changed.
-
We should have the best defense in the comp, I mean with all players being in the backline, learning their defensive side...
-
:lol
-
Getting smashed in the middle doesn't help. Best example was the GWS game where Rance got absolutely pummelled and repelled attack after attack and had he not we would have lost by 200 pts.
Two way running from the midfield is required. Team defence is where its at. Look at the bulldogs who lost their backline through injury and same can be said for 2015 West Coast
-
But Batchelor plays tall, what is the problem, we should also have Morris back, our backline will be incredible. :whistle ::).

:facepalm

What if we rotate Dusty off the HBF?

You heard it here first folks, Batch is the new lock down small defender

Id actually put Caddy and Prestia in the back pockets. Would bring a new dimension to their games.
