Subject: Team Selection - Question for Neil Balme and Damian Hardwick
To: <info@richmondfc.com.au>

Hi

My name is ******, I have been a passionate supporter for 40 years and a member since 1994.  Given this unwavering support I expect a response to these questions from both or one of the above people in our football department.

I cannot understand why we continue to play footballers like Taylor Hunt ( nothing personal ) in our Senior team who have poor disposal and are bad decision makers. Taylor has no upside and we leave players like Oleg Markov, Jayden Short, C Ellis, C Menadue and B Lennon who have showed some real potential out of the team. Our football club will not improve if we keep the same players who have reached their ceiling and continue to provide same output. We need to stop thinking about the short term and think long term and invest in these kids providing them with opportunity to string some games together and learn the game at the highest level to move forward. We will remain a mediocre team without some hard decisions made.

Please dont tell me that  Taylor Hunt has earned his spot while the players  I mentioned above haven't in the preseason because Taylor Hunt, B Ellis and B Griffiths should not be playing round 1 based on preseason form.

Damian I have been a great supporter of yours and you played a significant in us playing finals 3 years straight but I am losing faith. I thought we would be changing our ways from 2016 with a more attacking game style and  more tackling pressure . Team selection seems to point towards more of the same.

Also Anthony Miles is a contested ball beast and our contested ball numbers suffer when he is not in the team. I dont understand why he is getting dropped ?

Please please explain to me what is the plan ?

Why we dont bite the bullet and stay the course like the Dogs and Saints are doing which will pay dividends. Get quality kids in the team and play them.

******

Who cares? If they get a response then maybe it'll be interesting. Otherwise it's nothing different to anything any of us haven't already posted on this forum.

When the players mentioned when there form warrants selection and there is an opportunity they will get a game
Pretty simple
Also game style so far in 2017 has been very exciting

My email to the club last year was a little bit more suggestive than that.  Still waiting for a response.

Although I agree 100% with your sentiment in the email the club and Damian are in charge of the list and the 22 that run out on the ground each week and they should know best who plays as they are closer to it.  They obviously see something we all don't.

Armchair critics so obviously know more about the game and all the fine details than a bevy of full-time career football people who have only played and coached for 20-odd years or more. Yes, of course they should answer these critics and explain all the intricacies of their decision making processes to the fan in full detail. What is wrong with them? Of course they have the right to demand such an audience. FFS.  ::)

LMAO

Just Imagine if all football clubs took any notice of the bar flies and felt a need to reply to the "experts" (sorry WAT) with no inside knowledge, who want to give advice or expect answers as such.

When the administrators and coaches have done there time at a club amd left it in a mess who do the new coaches and administrators come to with their new false hopes and 8 year plans that become a 3 year shortcut?

It's the bitching, moaning supporters that see and hear the same bulltish every regime making the same mistakes over and over and over again.

........but we are just armchair critics that should just keep quiet and never ask any questions for the sake of stability.
And we should all just accept that we aren't a tackling team just to be told the next season that we are a tackling team because that's how we should play and just forget that we've been told for seven years that tackling is not really that important.  :rollin

Hello ***

Thank you for your email and loyal supporter as a Tigers Member. In regards to the points you made regarding team selection, the coaching staff  have done a great job to turn our game around in the last 6 months. The first 3 rounds have been very exciting and the pressure displayed by all players has been a trade mark of our game.

As you can see Taylor hunt had been playing in the VFL, while Jayden Short and Ben Lennon have both played in the AFL side over the last couple of weeks. These 2 have been rewarded with good form and shown they can play a role in our AFL side. If Markov, Ellis and Menadue continue to perform consistently in the VFL they will put pressure on players to hold their spot. This is a great sign for the depth of our list when we have multiple players competing for spots.

In regards to Anthony Miles he is a great clearance an contested ball player but our midfielders have done a great job in the first 3 weeks, our forward line has also been very dynamic and applied a lot of forward half pressure creating scoring opportunities  from turn overs. We hope you have enjoyed the first 3 weeks and we look forward to the rest of 2017.

Kind regards,

Not a bad reply to the original post, a bit of spin but most factual and a respectful reply. 8/10
