Michael Gale bullish about how far Tigers can go

After two wins to start the AFL season, the Richmond bandwagon is taking on more passengers by the day.
One of those happy to jump on is former Tigers player and North-West football favourite son Michael Gale, who was the guest speaker at East Devonport’s gala luncheon on Friday.
While Gale’s first love is Fitzroy, the club that drafted him in 1985 and where he played 105 games, he happily supports Richmond, the club where he finished his career in 1998, and likes what he sees so far.
“I can’t follow Fitzroy and I don’t follow Brisbane, so I follow Richmond – the Gale’s have got the family history at the club,” he said.
“I think they have recruited really well and that can take some time to gel and allow players to work each other out.
“They played poorly at times on Thursday night and got away with it which is the sign of a half-decent team, but so far I’m liking what I’ve seen.
“I do football tipping on Melbourne radio and I said last week that Richmond could make the top four, then they asked me who will make the grand final and I said Richmond again.
“They think I’m mad, but I seriously think they can finish top four if they have some luck with injuries.”
Gale believes anything less that an finals appearance will probably spell the end of coach Damien Hardwick.
“They have to finish in finals for Damien’s sake, and even he would say that if they miss out he has done all he can,” he said.
