Bump.
Game just started.
Smother by Moore at HF but his deep chip to Soldo goes too far and through for a point.

Townsend gathers to Lloyd on the boundary and he squares to Stengle. Set shot from 35m out is a goal :gotigers.

-
Corey Ellis nice pay off half-back again sets up a forward foray. It ends up with Lennon off to Hunt who snaps a point.
8 - 0
-
Slack defending and Port get a forward free all alone inside 50 but luckily he misses a sitter.
8 - 1
-
Good forward pressure and by hand Townsend to Lennon to Moore ends with up with Lloyd who snaps a goal :gotigers.

Poor defending behind the mid/HF stoppage and Port get it over the top for a goal.

Another to Port straight away (set up by Nahas).

-
We go long and from the scramble Silvestro snaps a point.

Ellis long to Lloyd in a one-on-one. Goes off hands and is rushed through.

Lennon on the wing goes long to the pocket. Lloyd quick kick centres it. Chol and another Tiger can't mark. Menadues quick kick forward goes to Lloyd who goals again :gotigers.

Ballwatching in defence and a lucky bounce gifts Port a goal on the siren.
Quarter time
Richmond 4.4-28
Port Melb. 4.3-27
Goals: Lloyd 3, Stengle
-
Chol and Bolton need to improve if we are going to win this.
-
Lloyd (everywhere) and Ellis (classy) our best so far for mine. Miles & Townsend their usual selves winning the ball in the North Port Oval gluepot. Moore has done some nice things. Ivan is probably our only big man winning his position.
Chol and Bolton unsighted so far. Elton not playing.
Disposals:
Lloyd 12
Miles 8
Ballard 8
-
Poor kick by Port out of D50 goes to Lennon. Nice low pass. Lloyd's kick is a shank and is rushed through.
We are really struggling inside F50 as our tall forwards (Chol and Soldo) can't get near it so far.
29 - 27
-
That's pretty much the difference so far. Port able to get marks inside F50 while we can't. Lucky they miss.
29 - 28
5 mins Q2
-
Goal to them from another F50 mark and set shot.
29 - 34
Townsend gone for the day. Off to hospital.

Guys has Townsend disposal Improved and skills ?

Guys has Townsend disposal Improved and skills ?
Not really had a chance to see in this game. Won ball in the middle gluepot with hands to runners. Then copped a whack in the face with his first outside possession (mark). Gone for the day and off to hospital as I posted.
29 - 36
11 mins Q2
Port on top in general play.
-
Being outmuscled and the dumb players like batch, hunt continue to do dumb things.
-
Chol finally takes a mark (double grab) 60m out. Finds Aarts 30m out. Misses.
30 - 36
15 mins Q2
-
We've been very lucky Port aren't making us pay on the scoreboard.
30 - 38
-
Port are cutting us to ribbons but they keep missing.
30 - 39.
20 mins Q2
-
Some blokes out there are not willing enough.
-
Eventually Port were going to kick one straight with the amount of ball they have.
Then another straight from the centre clearance. Big trouble now!
30 - 51
-
We finally put some decent team possession together to control the ball forward with short passes. Menadue runs into goal but misses.
31 - 45
26 mins Q1
-
Hunt to Bolton 60m out. Squares across HF to Silvestro who finds Lennon on the fat side. Goal on the siren :gotigers.

2 v 1 in the goalsqusre but the port player takes a screamer over Chol, sweep it up the other end and goal to port ::) classic 12 point turnaround
Should've been a 1 goal margin. Instead it's 3 goals. We've challenged port this qtr but made no headway
-
Men against boys
-
Chol not even close to AFL standard.
Got to hand it to Port - showing real character.
-
Ports a pretty good side and we are undermanned today in all fairness.
Bolton got a bit of mongrel - I like it but having said that he goes in and spoils his teammate Chol who should've taken an easy chestmark
-
Menadue and C Ellis both massive busts. Both softer than a pillow
-
We had a few shots in that quarter where we had momentum.and failed to convert. Port made us pay for it and i think its game over.
Still good to watch the seconds though which i rarely get to see

Inside 50s: 59 - 61 ...... Port far more clean and efficient going inside F50. We really lacked a winning tall forward who could contest well and take a mark.
Lost uncontested possessions by a whopping 81. They cut us to ribbons.

-
In case anyone's wondering while Miles isn't getting games:
Miles 28 disposals (20 kicks 8 handballs) 9 marks 0 tackles 1.0
-
BTW - Our Top AFL-listed tackler was Callum Moore with 4, followed by CEllis & Chol with 3 each...... :shh
-
What I saw today
Chol is a long way off
Miles and C Ellis and Batch only players at AFL Standard
And Lloyd
-
Ellis, Menadue and at times Lloyd & Lennon looked good. Gathwaite showed good signs as did Stengel. All in all well beaten by a very good side.
-
What happened to Townsend?
-
copped a knock in the 2nd qtr
-
Chol looked totally disinterested.
Call me crazy but Lennon looked ok as did ellis and Miles.
Bolton needs to stop sooking it

Absolutely gutless effort was that the new richmond womens side for next year
If only we had played today with the effort of a women's AFLW side. We were simply beaten up by a Port side that wanted it more. The scoreboard actually flatters us.

VFL Tigers fall short
richmondfc.com.au
29 April 2017
Richmond 9.14-68 def by Port Melbourne 14.14-98
The VFL Tigers suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, going down by 30 points to Port Melbourne in a top-of-the-table clash at North Port Oval.
After going toe-to-toe with the Borough for the opening half, the home side finished with all the momentum and pulled clear of the Tigers after a dominant third term display.
Sam Lloyd was a standout performer, finishing with four goals and 26 disposals, while Ben Lennon, Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles also put in industrious shifts.
Speaking after the defeat, Richmond VFL and Development Coach, Craig McRae, said his side showed plenty of endeavour in the loss.
“We showed spirit and didn’t give in,” McRae said.
“Credit to the opposition, their pressure around the ball was really strong.
“We’ve got some fight left in us yet - it’s only Round 3.”
The VFL Tigers started the game with plenty of attacking pressure and were rewarded for their efforts when Tyson Stengle kicked truly after receiving a pinpoint Lloyd pass.
Lloyd then took it upon himself to register the Tigers’ second major of the day with a classy snap, before wowing the Tiger faithful with a stunning second of his own.
With the ball on the deck in the forward 50, Lloyd received a handball, shook off two would-be-tacklers and finished with class to bring the travelling supporters to their feet.
Lloyd then showed determination in the goal square to mark a looping ball and bury his third only moments later, as the Tigers held off fast-finishing Port Melbourne to lead by a solitary point at the first break.
It was the Borough who began to wrestle back the ascendancy in the second stanza, as three goals and a handful of behinds saw them out to a 21-point lead midway through the quarter.
Corey Ellis continued his stunning form from his performance against Sandringham last week, showing elite ball use and decision making on the wing.
Captain Sam Darley was also a standout performer, leading his charges from the backline as the VFL Tigers withstood wave after wave of Port Melbourne attacks.
The VFL Tigers were finally rewarded for their persistence on the stroke of half time, as a measured Ben Lennon set shot sailed through the big sticks to bring Port’s lead back to 14 points.
The third term started in similar fashion to the preceding two, with both sides going goal-for-goal in a thrilling shootout.
Lennon and Jake Aarts were in fine fettle, both nailing impressive majors to keep the pressure on the home side.
However, with a sizeable home following at their backs, Port Melbourne began to take a stranglehold on the contest, and kicked four consecutive goals to finish the quarter with a five-goal lead.
Lloyd was battling hard to keep his side in the contest, getting himself up to 20 disposals for the day, while Ryan Garthwaite brought his trademark pressure to the fore with three tackles.
Ultimately, it was not to be for the VFL Tigers, as the Borough finished strongly to win the day by the same margin of that at the final change.
Lloyd was on hand to round off an impressive performance with a fourth goal, while a Miles goal on the siren helped to stem the damage.
Having now won two of their opening three games, the VFL Tigers look to their round four clash against Footscray.
The Round 4 match will be played at Etihad Stadium next Saturday at 3pm, as a curtain-raiser to the Round 7 AFL match.

Chol looked totally disinterested.
Call me crazy but Lennon looked ok as did ellis and Miles.

Agree with this.
I have no idea what Lennons stats were in the end but the thing I judge players on in the vfl more so than stats is their intensity or lack of. If you dont look like you have elite intensity at the ball in vfl, you will look miles off it at the next level its as simple as that. It's why I always had doubts about McBean,(same for Elton) and why until recently, I had serious doubts about Lennon. Lennon now attacks the ball at pace - never under estimate how important this skill (or desire is). Lennon hit the ball and marking contest hard everytime yesterday which shows me he is developing the consistency of effort required to make it at the top level.
Chol is an interesting one. IMHO he attacks the ball with incredible intensity a lot of the time(especially marking contests) but his followup efforts are appalling - even worse than Vickery. I saw him standing a couple of meters from a disputed ball without going in to apply any pressure, not even a bump or block to help out or player. Unacceptable. In the past I heard that he spent all his petrol tickets early and really struggled to run out games bc he didnt know how to pace himself and would redline it too often. That excuse territory has gone now. He needs less time walking and more time jogging.

And from what i could tell the umps didn't see any problem with it.

Our start to the season has been absolutely sensational, but our list management again has failed us. Our VFL team has close to nothing that can come in and help our AFL team effectively short term. Lloyd maybe, Miles maybe. In particular ruck stocks and Key position players. This is why we are forced to play Elton.
We don't have a huge injury list. If our injury list consisted of Rance, Jack and Nank our season would be flipped on its head. Shouldn't be going through the season with our fingers crossed.

We're playing seniors with 1 ruck option. At the craps table. Literally.

Grigg is rucking well.... :lol

Richmond Development and VFL midfield coach, Xavier Clarke's summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Saturday’s Round 3 VFL match against Port Melbourne.
AFL LISTED PLAYERS
Sam Lloyd
26 disposals, five marks, four goals.
Lloyd played a good game and started well with three goals and 11 disposals in the first quarter. Spent time up forward and in the midfield, which was pleasing to see.
Anthony Miles
26 touches, nine marks, six clearances, one goal.
Solid again in and around the centre. Had plenty of disposals and clearances, and is continuing to lead the way in our contested possessions. He’s setting a good standard at VFL level and certainly putting his hand up for senior selection.
Corey Ellis
21 disposals, three marks, two tackles, four inside 50s.
Has put two consistent games together. Played across half-back, was clean with the ball when he got the opportunity and finished with good disposal and tackle numbers, which was pleasing to see. Went through the midfield at times and looked very clean, so he’s put his hand up with his early form.
Taylor Hunt
18 disposals, four marks, two clearances, one tackle.
A real team player that played his role well across a number of positions, starting on the wing before venturing in to the midfield and moving down back late in the game.
Ben Lennon
18 disposals, seven marks, three tackles, two goals.
A bit quiet, was held well by Port Melbourne’s defence. Ended up with a couple of goals and impacted the scoreboard, which was good.
Connor Menadue
18 disposals, three marks, one tackle.
Coming back from AFL level, Connor started the game really well. His input for the game was pretty good across the board, playing across the backline.
Ivan Maric
15 disposals, 36 hitouts, five marks, three clearances.
Rucked the majority of the game and competed well. He constantly shows great leadership and continues to be a really important part of the Club’s development.
Shai Bolton
12 disposals, two tackles, three marks.
Looked dangerous at times and will continue to grow at this level whilst still learning the game style and the way we need to play. His pressure when he’s up and about looks really dangerous as he continues to take the game on.
Ryan Garthwaite
12 disposals, eight marks, three tackles, four spoils.
Has proved that he’s a very good player at VFL level. He’s very brave, strong, reads the play really well down back, and he will continue putting his hand up for senior selection if he keeps playing the way he is.
Callum Moore
11 disposals, four marks, three tackles, five spoils.
Competed hard in the air and at ground level with a massive grab showing what he is capable of with a strong set of hands.
Tyson Stengle
Nine disposals, eight contested possessions, two marks, one goal.
Looked dangerous with ball in hand up forward, kicking one goal. He is a very smart player, hard to tackle and very strong in the hips.
Mabior Chol
7 disposals, 1 mark, 5 hitouts, 4 tackles.
Had limited time in the forward line due to playing more in the ruck this week. He’s had better weeks and will continue to develop as a player with consistency being his biggest challenge going forward.
Ivan Soldo
6 disposals, 3 marks, 7 hitouts.
With a good understanding of what he can do in the ruck, the coaches are looking to get a bit more out of him in forward 50. He started the game up forward and competed pretty well in the air when he had to.
Jacob Townsend
1 disposal, 1 tackle.
Received a knock to his eye mid way through the first quarter, came off the ground and took no further part in the game.
VFL LISTED PLAYERS
Jacob Ballard
25 disposals, five marks, four clearances, two tackles.
Played a pretty solid game in the midfield, and continues to perform. He’s a big bodied player and is complementing our midfield really well.
Brandon Wood
23 disposals, six clearances, five inside-50s, two marks.
Started the game slowly, but found his hands on the footy by the end of the game. All-round he did well for us throughout the midfield.
Sam Darley
22 disposals, four marks, three tackles.
Showed great leadership down back with his voice and communication, seven rebound 50s was really impressive.
Jake Aarts
20 disposals, seven marks, three tackles, one goal.
Played multiple roles including both midfield and forward. Worked hard for most of the day, and got a well-deserved goal in a strong performance.
Thomas Silvestro
20 disposals, four marks, two tackles, six inside-50s.
Battled hard on the wing like always, put his head over the footy and will continue to improve at this level giving his all.
Hugh Beasley
16 disposals, three marks, two spoils.
Has had some big roles over the last couple of weeks at Full Back, he’s showed great leadership since coming to the Club and continues to defend really well.
Jack Holden
14 disposals, two marks, three clearances, one tackle.
Played on the wing and plays this role well, importantly when he needs to win the footy he does. He broke the lines a couple of times out of defensive 50, which is really impressive, and will be encouraged to continue doing so.
Daniel Coffield
13 disposals, four marks, six contested possessions.
Is in the best form he’s been in for a long time, his last two weeks have been outstanding. He saved the team a lot of times with his defence and intercept marking. He showed braveness sitting under the high ball and has been fantastic down back.
