On principle, purely based on his inability to ever be an AFL player drop Steve Morris. Kicked out on the full from 10 metres out.

He's a dud. Everyone on the planet knows that except you and Dimma. Was a liability (again). No point running your guts out if you are a chook without its noggin

They gave us a bath tonight all over the ground. Vlastuin is at the crossroads for mine as i just cant see what position he plays. I thought mid/forward was his go but its HB or VFL. Castagna needs a rest as he looks tired. Nak might get 1 week, Rioli and Conca played injured so a few changes might be coming. What was obvious tonight was the lack of height around the ground. Not a great night but all in all a great start to the year.

Not sure who comes in at this point.

Well if you have any idea about footy at all
What that young kid did was a disgrace
He is going to be a very good footballer but what we dished up after quarter time was rubbish
At he made some shocking mistakes during the game and then does that
Spend some time in the twos
Sam Lloyd would of kicked into level 3

Jack, 3 possession in 3 qtrs. Will never play again in our shirt, nor should he. Awful footballer. Pick me if you want someone to run their guts out.

Plenty should be dropped but the VFL side is full of crap players.

Nank will go, hopefully Griffiths can play as we need talls. Could we play Batchelor as a defender and swing Astbury forward? Think playing small won't hurt us as much as playing Dogs to be fair.

Out: Nank, Morris
In: Griffiths, C.Ellis/Lennon

I'd look at dropping Houli and get Markov running off half back like last year. Houli played a very good last qtr vs Melbourne who were spent but been useless as a spare man in defence for 6 games.

Griffiths wont be playig for a while yet...if ever again.....

Chol & Soldo should both be upgraded ASAP but as that costs money, the bean counters will overrule it, so I'm guessing Maric and/or Reggie Dwight....

What are you talking about? What exactly did Butler do that was a disgrace? What was more of a disgrace than what just about every other player did?

Morris gives his all but either isn't good enough or just wasn't ready (I suspect the former). Just the worst decision bringing him back after such a short stint in the twos. Ridiculous and unnecessary. They should have elevated Soldo and given him an extended run in the senior side to give Nank a proper chop out.

It was just a dumb decision...but if anything he was being too unselfish...hardly lazy or show boating.....the far more experienced Caddy's handball when he should've had a shot early in the second quarter was far worse and pretty much turned the match....

I wouldn't drop any of the kids unless they need to be rested. Going back to the days of playing a kid and having them as the first dropped when we have a loss has to stop. We simply cannot afford for young talent to go into their shells or fear consequences when they make mistakes. Older players who aren't good enough or should know better can go. I'm looking forward to seeing Cellis, Bolton, Soldo, Lennon, Garthewaite and Stengle coming in over the next few weeks. Lloyd and Miles deserve a go, the so called senior players can be raffled off as replacements

Looked at the footage of Nanks elbow and only two things may save him. One, David Mackay held onto him a very long time after the disposal and Toby just threw his arm back to free himself up meaning it was unintentional and two, it may be mild or moderate impact as the player came back on and played the rest of the game.

Agree with Elton as he did bring structure but Morris most certainly did have very good form since his return. The whole team except Cotchin got a lesson tonight.

The Barometer: Round 7

Herald-Sun
1 May 2017

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK: No fresh injuries is one small bright spot from the trip to Adelaide. But Toby Nankervis didn’t have a good day, letting the frustration of fighting a losing battle against Sam Jacobs get to him when he threw an elbow back and collected David Mackay. The MRP will decide his fate. Back in Melbourne Ben Griffiths is now listed as “indefinite” as he fights concussion issues and ruckman Shaun Hampson is looking for creative remedies to a chronic back problem.

ON THE CUSP: The VFL side also suffered its first loss of the season, going down to Port Melbourne. Sam Lloyd kicked four goals and had 26 disposals while Ben Lennon, Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles are all waiting if called on. Todd Elton was the travelling emergency. If Nank is rubbed out that might mean resurrecting the career of Ivan Maric.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: The first quarter was great, the last was OK and the middle two showed equal parts how far ahead of the pack Adelaide is and how much work is still ahead of Richmond. There’s no time for the Tigers to feel sorry for themselves with a match against the premiers on Saturday night. Going in with one ruckman didn’t work so well against the Crows but the Dogs don’t have Jacobs and Josh Jenkins, so will they try it again?

Promote chol for nank. As much as I am grateful for his service and carrying the ruck during our 3 finals runs Maric has no leap left so purely on athleticism I'd go Chol. Ground coverage is important for ruckmen these days.

Milo needs to come in for either Caddy or Prestia due to their form. Lloyd for Castagna

Think you could play Elton in the ruck against Boyd. Not sure what his tank is like but Bulldogs aren't a particularly tall team.

Ellis
Miles

Vlastuin Rance Grimes
Conca McIntosh B. Ellis
Grigg Caddy C. Ellis
Rioli Riewoldt Markov
Butler Martin Astbury

Soldo Cotchin Prestia

Short Houli Miles Lambert

Astbury to play second ruck. I could see Gathwaite playing this week which is the other option down back which still allows Astbury to play forward.

Meanwhile, forgotten Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric is in line to be called upon this weekend after Toby Nankervis was offered a one-match ban by the AFL’s Match Review Panel.

With last year’s No. 1 ruckman Shaun Hampson sidelined indefinitely with back issues, Maric shapes as the most likely replacement for the Tigers’ clash with Western Bulldogs on Saturday night having been solid in the VFL the past two weeks.

Maric, 31, played just three AFL games last season but lined up in two of Richmond’s three pre-season games this year.

Alot of the posts here have had Nank out and only 1 tall in. We NEED to bring in at least two talls. Running 1 ruck and Grigg as back up is a joke and was proven so last week. I know we dont have the stocks but we ran Hampton and Vickery last year. Elton, Soldo, Choi, Maric have to be at least comparable with those two spuds. Lennon needs to come in too as he plays a bit taller as well and can play that CHF roll if needed. Griff with concussion is a big loss although most wont agree with me there.

Outs  Nank, Morris, Castanga (rest), Caddy

Ins  Elton, Choi, Lennon, Miles

On principle, purely based on his inability to ever be an AFL player drop Steve Morris. Kicked out on the full from 10 metres out.

Seriously don't post rubbish
Was 40 meters out
Ran his guts out
Worse than him

Teams getting flogged and:

a young player chooses (admittedly not the right choice) to be unselfish and tries to set up a team mate for an easy goal (how Dusty set him up for his first ever goal) but unfortunately stuffs it up

Or

A more experienced player sprays a kick from 40m out to kick it out on the full

Who you drop? hmmmmm

In the Mix - Round 7

Nathan Schmook
afl.com.au
2 May 2017

RICHMOND

Ruckman Toby Nankervis (suspended) is a big loss for the Tigers, but his forced absence could open the door for veteran Ivan Maric, who had 36 hit-outs and 15 possessions in the VFL at the weekend. If the match committee wants to look to the future, rookie Ivan Soldo could make his debut despite a quiet six possessions in the loss to Port Melbourne.

The Tigers took a risk against Adelaide by going small and it backfired, so expect tall reinforcements against the Bulldogs. Key forward Todd Elton was an emergency against the Crows, while athletic big man Mabior Chol is available. One of the two will likely be selected to provide ruck support and a target down the line.

Elsewhere, Sam Lloyd (four goals and 26 possessions in the VFL) is pushing for a chance, while Anthony Miles (26 and six clearances) continues to produce solid performances in the state league. Corey Ellis (21 and four inside 50s) is not far away if spots open up.

dont we have the ability to upgrade a few of the rookies though.
I am Not sure about this.If it is possible then my preference would be to play both Chol and Moore fmd they can give no less than what Elton and Griffiths have. They would at least be on their bikes with their pace and agility unlike Elton and Griffiths.
We just need to find some tall fwds if it means throw em in and see what happens so be it.

Lloyd, Miles, Chol, Moore, Maric all in.
Vlastuin, Nankervis, Short, Morris, Ellis  all out we all know old softie Ellis is not going to be dropped ever though fmd he is a weak prick.

HB: Houli - Rance - Castagna

Clash of the Ivans: Cousins in Tiger ruck battle

FORGOTTEN Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric would be battling conflicting emotions this week as he jockeys for selection with cousin and potential debutant Ivan Soldo.

With No.1 ruckman Toby Nankervis suspended for Saturday night's clash against the Western Bulldogs, the Tigers face a choice between project rookie Soldo and his 157-game mentor.

Given the amount of work Maric has put in to bring his 21-year-old cousin up to AFL standard, football manager Neil Balme said the club veteran would see the positives in whatever choice the match committee made.

"He's got some conflicting motivations I reckon, because he's doing a lot of work with our ruckmen, but particularly Soldo who he is quite close to," Balme told AFL.com.au.

"He's working hard with those blokes, but he's also working hard on his own game.

"He's still contributing enormously as a person and that's the sort of man that he is, but he would love to play seniors again, there's no doubt about that.

"He's managing to balance all of that and let someone else make the decisions."

Balme said the choice for a replacement ruckman would likely come down Maric and Soldo, with Mabior Chol coming off a quiet VFL hit-out.

Maric, who has overcome a back complaint, led the ruck against Port Melbourne and finished with 36 hit-outs and 15 possessions.

Soldo, meanwhile, was used in the forward line after some reasonable VFL performances to allow the match committee to see what else he could offer in attack.

The Tigers have room to upgrade the rookie on Thursday, with Nathan Broad, Jack Graham and Shaun Hampson all on their long-term injury list and only rookie Jason Castagna upgraded at this stage.

"If it's not this week it'll be at some point … we reckon he'll play almost certainly at some point," Balme said of Soldo.

The Tigers will also consider recalling tall forward Todd Elton after selecting a small forward line against the Adelaide.

Bring in Miles for the love of god .

Bring in Lloyd too , 26 pos + 4 goals . Much better than seeing Vlastuin being played out of position.

Play Vlastuin down back to replace Conca

Soldo promoted, so looks like that decision has been made.

RICHMOND is yet to make a call between cousins Ivan Maric and Ivan Soldo as the pair jockey for selection against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

With No.1 ruckman Toby Nankervis suspended for one match, the Tigers face a choice between project rookie Soldo and his 157-game mentor.

Coach Damien Hardwick said there was no awkward family rivalry ahead of the match committee's decision on Thursday afternoon.

"They're incredibly close and whichever way it goes they'll be supportive of each other," Hardwick said.

"Ivan (Maric) is doing an outstanding job working with all our rucks at the moment. That's the calibre of person he is – he'll certainly put the team before his own person performance.

"We've got Ivan's (Maric) experience that we like and then we've got Soldo's youth and exuberance which we like also. We'll be looking at both of those options."

Maric has been a mentor for Soldo since the youngster arrived at Punt Road Oval as a category B rookie in 2014, helping the 21-year make big strides last season in 15 VFL games.

Football manager Neil Balme on Wednesday said the popular club veteran would see the positives in whatever choice the match committee made.

"He's got some conflicting motivations I reckon, because he's doing a lot of work with our ruckmen, but particularly Soldo who he is quite close to," Balme told AFL.com.au.

"He's working hard with those blokes, but he's also working hard on his own game.
