Dimma just had his post-match presser:
* Saints were outstanding. We couldn't match them in any facet of the game. Outplayed us everywhere.
* Dimma was asked us not turning up and did he see this coming?
We prepared the same as every week. We've been one of the most consistent sides this year. Basics of the game haven't changed. You've got to win the contested ball and use the footy well. Contest method tonight was very disappointing.
* Competition is very even. If one side is playing above expectation and we're well below ours then results like this can happen. Our footskills tonight were as poor as they've ever been.
* Would love to see Kane Cornes (re: his tweet tonight). He's paid to write "s---" comments.
* We got obliterated. They hunted in packs and exposed us.
* Not sure if it's leadership or rather that we couldn't hit a target to save us tonight. We probably lacked courage with and without the ball because we were constantly turning it over.
* Griffiths is making progress and we've got others coming back. Our small forwards are young. We'd love to have a second key forward. Nank is doing it tough single-handedly.
* Up to MRP to decided on Cotchin report. More concerned that we gave up two undisciplined 50m penalties early on in the game that set the tone.
* We've had two bad games - Adelaide and this one which was over by half-time. We know we've got things to work on which we'll continue to do that. We've in the mix at 9-6.
* You do feel like ranting but you need to focus on what needs to be rectified. We were down by 30 in contested possessions at half-time. I thought we rectified that in the second half.
* Dimma didn't know how Grimes is until he gets the medical report. He didn't see the incident.

Feel like these conferences are pointless.
Coaches never say anything. If they do they are generally fined or absolutely destroyed in the media.
-
Damien, how much responsibility do you take in the overall preparation of the mindset of the players as they go into a match and do you think that perhaps you need to brush up on your oratory skills, both in a communicative and inspirational sense?
-
Did he apologise for the teams performance?
I think it's warranted considering the team didn't come to play.
-
Oh look they're a bloody outstanding side....

Dimma fires up after Cornes calls Tigers complacent
afl.com.au
9 July 2017
RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick has hit back at former teammate Kane Cornes for accusing the Tigers of complacency during their shock 67-point loss to St Kilda.
Midway through the second quarter of the big clash at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, with Richmond already 10 goals down, Cornes tweeted: "If a top 4 side concedes 32 in. 50's in 45mins of play it means you've got ahead of yourself. No other explanation."
Alerted to the tweet at his post-match media conference, Hardwick was in no mood to humour the observations of Cornes, a premiership teammate at Port Adelaide in 2004.
"Seriously, I'd love to see Kane. I'd really love to see Kane," Hardwick told reporters.
"Don't get me wrong, that's his job – he's there to write poo comments."
Asked whether Cornes' views deserved any credibility, a clearly irritated Hardwick said: "Please."
The result – which perhaps flattered the Tigers given they trailed by 95 points late in the third term – has left them under threat from Port Adelaide, who will replace them in fourth place if it beats West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday.
Hardwick was disappointed but was also full of praise for an extraordinary performance by St Kilda.
The Tigers coach said the Saints "absolutely obliterated" his team in contested ball in the first half and had applied "elite" pressure.
"Our contest method today was incredibly disappointing and that's something we'll be working on this week to make sure we rectify the result in that part of the game," he said.
"It's been pretty good throughout the year, but tonight and even a little bit last week (against Port Adelaide) it wasn't to the level we'd like.
"We've got eight days (before a home clash with the Brisbane Lions) so that's the one positive that we get out of it."
Hardwick was also concerned by his team's kicking.
"We couldn't hit the side of a barn in the first half. Out foot skills were as poor as they've been," he said.
"Sometimes it's good to get a wake-up call."
Hardwick said it had been a rare off day for the Tigers, but he wasn't dismissing it as an aberration.
"Our side has been really consistent. There's been (only) two games – this and the Adelaide game (in round six) that we haven't been in," he said.
"We've got some work to do but we sit 9-6, so we're in the mix."
Hardwick refused to comment on skipper Trent Cotchin's report for striking Jack Lonie with a stomach punch in the first term, other than saying he was "more concerned" about his team conceding two 50-metre penalties that resulted in early goals.
Hardwick said he hadn't yet seen a medical report on defender Dylan Grimes, who sat out the second half with suspected concussion after a heavy hit in an aerial contest with Tim Membrey.

Damien Hardwick on Kane Cornes: Richmond coach blasts “poo comments” after Richmond loss to St Kilda at Etihad Stadium
Scott Gullan and Ben Broad,
Herald Sun
9 July 2017
A SHELL-SHOCKED Damien Hardwick heaped praise on St Kilda in the aftermath of Richmond’s worst performance of the season.
The Tigers were stunned by a first-half onslaught by the Saints that saw them trail by 82 points at half-time.
Hardwick was at a loss to explain his team’s insipid performance a week after they’d climbed into the top four.
“I thought they were outstanding, the first half to be down 30 contested ball, effectively the result of the game was over at half-time,” Hardwick said.
“They were terrific around the contest and away from the contest and we just couldn’t match them in any facet of the game.
“It’s incredibly disappointing we set ourselves up for a big game and they outplayed us in all areas tonight.”
Hardwick was quizzed about a tweet from his former Port Adelaide premiership teammate Kane Cornes who suggested the Tigers had got ahead of themselves after talk during the week of them as premiership contenders.
“Seriously I would love to see Kane, I would love to see Kane,” he said.
“Don’t get me wrong that his job, he’s there to write s--t comments.”
Hardwick said his team’s skills were the worst he’d seen all season.
“We couldn’t hit the side of a barn in the first half,” he said. “Our foot skills were as poor as they have been tonight.
“And sometimes it’s good to get a wake-up call.”
Captain Trent Cotchin was reported in the first quarter for striking Jack Lonie with a stomach punch.
The Tigers also have injury concerns with defender Dylan Grimes sitting out the second half after a high hit by Saint Tim Membrey which is likely to earn him a stint on the sidelines.
SOCIAL MEDIA BLOWS UP
IT was the half-time scoreline that made fans rub their eyes to truly believe it was happening.
St Kilda and Richmond fans, along with the rest of the footy world, was stunned as the Saints went on a goalkicking frenzy at Etihad Stadium.
St Kilda superstar Nick Riewoldt, playing in a match that pays tribute to his late sister Maddie, booted the game’s first goal.
Moments later, Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin was reported for a stomach punch.
Tigers fans didn’t think things could sink much lower after that and the Saints slamming on three quick goals.
They were wrong. By half-time some Richmond fans could have been excused for looking for the exit, wondering if they were watching some kind of nightmare. And they’ve seen a few.
The score? 14.8 (92) to 1.4 (10) at the long break.

I don't really get it, Kornes is right.
-
Contradicted himself in regards to our contested ball. Went on to say that the game was effectively over at half time and was a training run for both teams in the second half but said we rectified the situation with contested ball in the second half. Pretty easy to do that if the heat is off, doesn't mean much, the warning signs have been there recently early in games.
Last night we saw what happens when an opposition team takes advantage of that domination and basically our midfield just jogged around with not a worry in the world. It's up to Hardwick and co. to re-energise this side heading toward the finals. Are we going to see the familiar capitulations we have seen in games happen on a larger scale as the thought of playing finals is all too difficult mentally for players to handle.

I agree. Either let them rant or don't bother it's just PC hot air management speak.

Cornes surprised by Hardwick's outburst
afl.com.au
10 July 2017
A "SURPRISED" Kane Cornes has responded to Richmond coach Damien Hardwick's blunt post-match remarks, saying he was well within his rights to question the Tigers' complacency on Saturday night.
During the second quarter of the St Kilda-Richmond clash, Cornes tweeted: "If a top four side concedes 32 inside 50s in 45mins of play it means you've got ahead of yourself. No other explanation."
Cornes, who played in a premiership with Hardwick at Port Adelaide, stood by his assessment on Sunday.
"I think I've made some comments about Richmond in the last 18 months that he [Hardwick] hasn't been happy with," Cornes told Channel Nine.
"But rightly so, they've been poor for over 10 years (and) they haven't won a final since 2001.
"The fact they got ahead of themselves, I can't think of another explanation. Coming into that game, everyone thought the Tigers were going to win.
"Last week after the game (against Port Adelaide), Damien Hardwick said 'the best is yet to come' and then they serve that up."
On Saturday night, Hardwick did not mince his words when alerted to Cornes' tweet during his media conference.
"Seriously, I'd love to see Kane. I'd really love to see Kane," Hardwick said after his side's 67-point loss to the Saints.
"Don't get me wrong, that's his job – he's there to write poo comments."
Asked whether Cornes' observation deserved any "credibility", Hardwick instantly replied: "Please."
Cornes said the tone Hardwick adopted post-match was unexpected.
"I was surprised with the language he used," Cornes said.
"I haven't seen him or any other coach swear in a post-match press conference. But let's not take that comment away from what the story should be (and that is) … Richmond was so poor and they have got questions to ask. He should be asking those questions.
"They aren't the first side to get ahead of themselves. Lots of sides have done it before and they'll do it again. If you come in just a fraction off, thinking it's going to happen … then serve up 43 inside 50s in a half of footy, what does that say about your club?"

Robbo's view:
Dislike 1. DAMIEN HARDWICK
All Kane Cornes said was the Tigers got ahead of themselves, and Damien Hardwick bit back. It was an off-night for the Tigers and they deserved scrutiny, notwithstanding their terrific season to date. What else could be said of the Tigers on Saturday? Second to the ball, turnovers and outnumbered at contests. The Saints won the loose ball, their midfield smashed Richmond, the Saints were withering in defence, and there was a complete breakdown of the Tigers’ structure. Richmond’s leaders were undisciplined early, led by Trent Cotchin’s punch to the guts of Jack Lonie. Cornes didn’t say much, and the response suggests this is personal for Hardwick. “I would love to see Kane. I would love to see Kane, I’d really love to see Kane,”’ Hardwick said. Hopefully, it would have been only for a chat.

'We had it out': Kane and Dimma's robust chat
afl.com.au
11 July 2017
KANE Cornes has revealed he "had it out" with Richmond coach Damien Hardwick in a "robust" phone conversation between the pair on Monday.
The war of words erupted in Saturday night's St Kilda-Richmond clash when Cornes took to social media to question the Tigers' complacency, prompting Hardwick to return fire when alerted post-match.
Cornes said he reached out to Hardwick over the weekend and received a call back from the coach.
"Without divulging too much, it was a pretty robust conversation that we had this afternoon and I appreciated him calling me back," Cornes told Channel Nine on Monday night.
"Look, we had it out. I stand by my comments and he stood by his.
"But there's no question that Richmond got ahead of themselves (on Saturday night) and I said that to him on the phone."
Both Cornes and Hardwick played in the 2004 premiership with Port Adelaide.
Cornes acknowledged he had a "history" of criticising the Tigers, highlighting where strains in the relationship between he and Hardwick began to emerge.
"We have a premiership reunion every Thursday before the Grand Final and it did get back to me that he was upset with a few comments that I'd made over a long period of time," Cornes said.
"But he made that very clear that he separates me as the media performer and a former teammate, and there's no hard feelings.
"I've been critical of (Tigers captain) Trent Cotchin, I've been critical at Richmond, I was really critical of their finals performance going back a while (and) I was critical of the fact they dress up on Mad Monday and celebrate poor seasons."
During the second quarter of the Tigers' 67-point loss, Cornes tweeted: "If a top four side concedes 32 inside 50s in 45mins of play it means you've got ahead of yourself. No other explanation."
Hardwick did not mince his words when alerted to Cornes' tweet during his media conference.
"Seriously, I'd love to see Kane. I'd really love to see Kane," Hardwick said.
"Don't get me wrong, that's his job – he's there to write poo comments."
Asked whether Cornes' observation deserved any "credibility", Hardwick instantly replied: "Please."
On Sunday, Cornes said he "was surprised with the language" the Richmond coach adopted after the game.

I personally would love to see Dudwick and Cornes fight. I'd put my money on Kane for a round 1 KO.
You have a short memory then.
As pizzweak as Dimma is with his coaching/favourites he was tough when he played. Really tough.
I went to school with Dimma and he had a severe case of white line fever when playing footy.

Why is he such a soft coach? Why does he put up with soft players? Why is the team that he now coaches the softest team in the league since he started coaching it?

Q. COACHES are a bit grumpy again. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick probably exposed how brittle the Tigers’ mentality truly is with his spat with Kane Cornes.
Michaelangelo Rucci: ON THE MONEY
DAMIEN Hardwick seems to take any criticism of his Richmond team and Tigers players most personally. He surely was none too kind in the post-match reviews after that appalling first half against St Kilda. So why is he taking issue with how Kane Cornes assessed that poor start that has cost Richmond fourth spot — for now?
They say the dog ultimately reflects the master. Hardwick needs a shovel of cement to develop a tougher stomach for criticism. He might look across the road to see how Nathan Buckley is handling a crisis with some class.
Chris McDermott: ON THE MONEY
SPOT on. Rooch, we both might agree on this one.
I love Damien Hardwick. I did when he played and I still do now that he is coaching. But he has to practise what he preaches. I’m sure he tells his players, as most coaches do, not to read social media — more so now that it is a trigger to mental issues among players.
It is a tough gig for players and coaches, but it always has been. It is no different today than it was 25 years ago. You just need to ignore the criticism or accept that there is some truth to it.
Whatever, it is here today and gone tomorrow ... unless you give it more currency. Get over it and move on. If Hardwick had ignored Kane’s remarks, we wouldn’t be talking about it today.
