WHERE DID THE TIGERS RATE OLIVER?
TALK about wishful thinking, but Richmond had initially hoped to snag Clayton Oliver with a “late pick” or “rookie pick”, according to the Melbourne ball magnet.
Leading into the 2015 AFL draft, Oliver, 20, thought he had “absolutely no chance” of being selected so when Richmond recruiters began circling after a stint in their VFL team the former Murray Bushranger was “over the moon”.
“They (Richmond) said they might take me with one of their late picks, rookie pick, and I was over the moon with that,” Oliver told RSN 927.
“So I was thinking maybe a year at the club would be good and I’ll just try and do what I could.”
The Tigers, to be fair, weren’t the only ones to initially underestimate the Mooroopna product snubbed by Vic Country for the under-18 national carnival.
Oliver played two VFL games before returning to the Bushrangers where he produced five standout games to rocket in draft calculations.
Richmond had wanted to use its first round pick but Melbourne swooped, selecting Oliver with the fourth overall pick.
The Tigers didn’t do too badly either, grabbing excitement machine Daniel Rioli with pick no.15.

If Clayton fell to pick to 15, the blues didn't select curnow and Rioli was still available..who would you pick
-
What an indictment on our recruiting dept that they rated Oliver so low.
-
Read the article again. We originally rated him as a late pick but later were prepared to use our first round but Melbourne swooped first.

I agree with Chuck but i also wants this to be written about each year in the media with comparisons of the players we drafted instead.

Oh sorry. My mistake.

Clearly this was our plan with the other players we 'missed.' Sure, they were there at our first pick but why reach for them then when you can just take them at the end :shh. If only other clubs didn't meddle in our plan it would have worked.
-
...and we would've got away with it too if wasn't for those meddling clubs...
-
I would still take Rioli. Need fire power and goals wins matches. Rioli can be better than Betts
-
I wanted Oliver too but he was never going to be around at 15.
He is a star already.
-
Oliver started the year of his draft as a rank outsider. By October he was top 5. Was never going to to go at 15.
-
We should have traded into the top 5 then.
Someone should have done something and now someone needs to pay for doing nothing
-
The matter should be referred to the police....

That should sting them into synchronicity!

Going okay is Clayton (on the field) but getting a little bit too big for his britches. Dont like. Rioli adds a lot more to our off field (and almost as much on field).

Kidding yourself if you think Rioli and Oliver are almost at the same level on field.

Yep, Oliver is a dud.

Yep, Oliver is a dud.
32 touches and 6 tackles on the weekend say otherwise.
And 5th favourite for the Brownlow in his second year of AFL footy also says otherwise.

I was trying to be sarcastic :)
