Surely he wouldnt run away if he had been just drinking.
I wonder if he was under the influence of something else?

Rivals say Judd should accept Eagles job
The Age - Breaking News
February 23, 2006 - 2:59PM
Richmond and Hawthorn AFL skippers Kane Johnson and Richie Vandenberg have urged West Coast's Chris Judd to accept the Eagles' captaincy.
With the Ben Cousins' booze bus affair leading to the reigning Brownlow Medallist resigning in disgrace as captain, Judd is seen by most as the logical successor.
But it is believed Judd is uncomfortable with the prospect of replacing Cousins as Eagles' skipper.
Johnson and Vandenberg - both entering their second seasons as AFL captains - said they understood Judd's reticence but urged him to take the job, and the Eagles to allow him to grow into it.
"I'd say he's definitely the best man for the job," Richmond skipper Johnson said.
"I reckon at some stage he will take it - he'll just take a bit of convincing in the next couple of weeks.
"It's obviously hard if you think you're not ready but the club does.
"They've just got to give him a chance to grow into the role - you need 12 to 24 months to become the leader you want to be.
"You can't just go straight into it and become a superstar leader like a Wayne Carey."
Vandenberg, who leads a young rebuilding Hawthorn side, said having a strong leadership group - including Cousins - would help Judd settle in.
"The biggest thing for Juddy is that he wouldn't take the whole burden upon his shoulders - I'm sure they've got a strong leadership group there," Vandenberg said.
"He'd have a good support network around him and Ben would still be a good leader within the group.
"If he doesn't feel he's quite ready, then the club will probably respect that.
"But with some gentle coercion, he'll be fine."
Johnson said Judd's ability as a match-winner was an ideal attribute to be skipper.
"I don't know him personally - just from hearsay of what people say about him ... that he's a natural leader and he leads without even thinking about it.
"You look at Mark Ricciuto (Adelaide captain) and these sort of blokes - they're match-winners on the ground which make you a pretty special captain."

You've got a love the WA justice system :nope
Magistrate Peter Malone had asked if the plea was coming from "Ben Cousins", saying that as an avid Eagles supporter who went to every home game, he would feel uncomfortable sentencing the footballer.
But he proceeded after Mr Momber [Ed. Cousins' lawyer] explained it was impossible to go anywhere without finding lovers of the sport, and that other magistrates had already disqualified themselves for similar reasons.

WTF ???
-
$900 to Ben Cousins is like fining me $1.00 - struth >:(
As an avid Eagles supporter who should be embarrassed by Cousins stupid behaviour you'd think Magistrate Malone would impose a harsh penalty so he could enjoy his fifteen minutes of fame. All Malone has done is made himself look as stupid as Benny Brainless :clapping
-
They should have got a Freo judge ;).
What is the punishment for being over the limit? - a suspended license plus a fine? So anyone who is over .05 should just do a runner as it's a lighter offence apparently ::).
-
What a dope :wallywink
-
Yep, heard about his little incident on Ch7 News :lol :wallywink
-
Much safer to get nabbed than to dive into the Yarra to escape. Maybe his twin brother wasn't with him this time too. :whistle

Cousins' night ends in jail
04 December 2006 Herald-Sun
Sam Edmund and Anthony Dowsley
WEST Coast star Ben Cousins has spent four hours in jail after a wild night in Melbourne ended in his arrest for drunkenness.
In his latest run-in with the law, Cousins was picked up by police in Southbank about 4.30am yesterday.
He was charged with being drunk in a public place and given four hours to sober up in the Melbourne Custody Centre before being released after 8.30am.
A police source said Cousins was "absolutely legless" when found and had no idea where he was. Another man is believed to have been arrested.
The Brownlow medallist will not be fined or have to appear in court.
Cousins, 28, went into hiding yesterday as news of his latest off-field indiscretion spread.
An angry West Coast released a statement, frustrated that its star onballer remains at the centre of controversy.
The club is yet to decide whether to punish its former captain, ordering him to a meeting next week before deciding on a course of action.
It is the second time Cousins has made headlines for the wrong reasons since West Coast issued a "last chance" ultimatum last year.
"The West Coast Eagles have today become aware of an incident involving Ben Cousins in Melbourne where he was arrested for being intoxicated," the statement reads.
"The club is disappointed with this situation and will talk to Ben about the matter when he returns from leave to begin training next week.
"The club will make no further comment on the issue."
Cousins' Melbourne manager, Ricky Nixon, couldn't hide his annoyance, snapping: "I'll answer your question before you ask it. We look after his marketing, we don't look after his personal affairs or his footy contract. Ring the footy club."
Cousins has been in Melbourne for a week, the club granting him leave after he returned to training early last month.
Witnesses said he was among a group partying at Southbank nightclub Eve.
Club director Nick Russian said Cousins had "popped in early" for a drink with mates.
"He did come in but then he went off to the casino. He was well in control when he was with us," Mr Russian said.
Cousins has many friends in Melbourne, including former teammate Michael Gardiner, who signed with St Kilda in October.
Gardiner's flatmate, Mark Edgley, denied reports that the ruckman had been with Cousins, saying Gardiner was too dedicated to his training to go out.
Mr Edgley said Cousins had since told him he was upset at what happened and that he had been unfairly treated.
It's not the first time Cousins has found himself in hot water.
In May last year, Cousins and Gardiner were identified as having links with the Perth underworld.
The pair became embroiled in an investigation into a shooting between rival bikie gangs at Perth's popular Metropolis Club.
Both were criticised for declining to explain phone conversations they were believed to have had with one of two men charged with disposing of a gun fired on the nightclub premises.
Cousins was stripped of the West Coast captaincy in February after abandoning his car and fleeing from a booze bus on foot.

Ben Cousins was blotto
05 December 2006 Herald-Sun
Sam Edmund
A UNIVERSITY student has told of his shock at discovering Ben Cousins blind drunk and staggering around Melbourne on his own.
Sean Coffin and his mates were celebrating exam results on Saturday night when they saw the Brownlow medallist wandering aimlessly near Crown casino.
"You could tell straight away he was really drunk," Mr Coffin said.
"We were saying, `Ben, Ben, are you all right?' and he was just mumbling."
Mr Coffin, 22, said he and his friends were walking back to their car at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre after partying at Queens Bridge Hotel.
"We just saw him and we were like, `Oh s--- that's Ben Cousins," he said.
"So we went up and laid him down and gave him some water."
Mr Coffin, a marketing and accounting student at Monash University, said after helping Cousins to rest he took photos of the Eagles star.
"He looked like he was going to pass out so we left him inside the Exhibition Building," he said. "But he must have got back up and walked outside again."
Cousins, 28, was arrested by police for drunkenness moments later.
He was given four hours to sober up in the Melbourne Custody Centre then released after 8.30am.
Former teammate Michael Gardiner yesterday confirmed he met Cousins on the night – but says he was tucked up in bed when the gun midfielder spun out of control.
The controversial ruckman, who signed with St Kilda in October, yesterday moved to distance himself from the incident.
"I wasn't out there with him. I was at home in bed. I've got my own issues to worry about over here," Gardiner told the Herald Sun.
"Of course I caught up with him. We've been good mates for 10 years and he came over for a wedding.
"I don't know where he is, I don't know where he's gone. He can look after himself."
Cousins' father Bryan, who played 67 games for Geelong in the 1970s, refused to comment on his son's latest run-in with the law.
"I don't want to talk to the press at all," he said.
"You guys do such a beautiful job I am more than happy to leave it to you guys."
Fremantle players Jeff Farmer and Steven Dodd were involved in an "incident" at a Perth nightclub at the weekend.
"The club has spoken to both players . . . and based on the information available at this time the club will be taking no action," a statement read.
West Australian police said a complaint from a patron of Club Bayview had been withdrawn.
The man who made the complaint, believed to be a player with WAFL club Subiaco, was said to have been king-hit, but did not see who struck him.
Club Bayview has been the scene of several incidents involving AFL players, most notably when West Coast's Andrew Embley was charged with assaulting a man during a brawl in 2002.
Embley's trial was abandoned before it began after police offered no evidence.
In the same month, Cousins broke his arm in a fight at the club with teammate Daniel Kerr.
