23 mins Q1
Rich 2.0-12
Casey 3.5-23
Goals to Stengle and Bolton.
Pretty ordinary start although the tackle pressure is there. Casey has had the better of the game so far (far more inside 50s). We can't get our hands on the ball and get the ball forward. Lots of niggle too.
-
Only staying in this because every time we go forward (very rarely) we kick a goal.
Stengle roves and snaps his second.
Rich 3.0-18
Casey 3.6-24
-
Inside 50s: 5 - 17
Lennon around his body goes to the square. From the contest, Stengle roves again for his 3rd.

Good forward pressure. Short snaps a goal :gotigers.
Rich 5.1-31
Casey 4.8-32
-
Hampson uncontested centrebounce tap straight to a Demon :facepalm.
-
Geez conca coming out of defence and misses a target 20 metres down the line, Casey reset and goal, shades of the 2015 slim final. He's way off it
-
Hampson another tap to a Demon then Batch falls over at HB = Casey goal.
Bolton gets the free at HF. Nice weighted pass to Short 40m out. Misses.
We get it back and Lloyd marks close to boundary 40 out. Goes across the face. Throw-in then ball-up. lloyd get the goal :gotigers
Scores level.
Rich 6.2-38

Lennon on the wing goes long and Hampson rises up to take a pack mark :o 30m out. Shanks it and misses.
At least we're in front.
39 - 38
-
Goal for goal so far scores tied at 5.8.38 -6.2.38. Fair to say Casey got the run of play and really should be in front but we are very efficient up fwd and are taking all our chances.
Having said that Hampson, short and Lloyd have all missed easy set shots in the last 5 mins
-
We win it back via a Casey errant handball on the wing and it gets to Lloyd who nails the goal :gotigers

Good transition out of defence ends up with Bolton marking 30 out. Misses.

Pathetic last 10 mins. We thought the game was won and done up by 10 goals and switched off and Casey got on a role we couldn't stop and kicked last 6 goals to give themselves a sniff :banghead.
-
Did the same thing last week. Playing like millionaire's. Game is in the balance I reckon. If they get the first one I sense trouble.

McRae got into our players for "contest balance". Running forward of the contest too much rather that winning the ball..
-
First one to them to easy through the corridor. Big test for a few of our youngsters here

Really only played a quarter and a half of decent footy (whole 2nd + first 15 mins of 3rd). Casey were on top for the rest. The difference was we made the most of our dominance on the scoreboard. Casey wasted the first qtr which kept us in it and blew 3 late set shots in a row in the last to bridge the gap.
Lloyd was clearly our best.
I don't see anyone today though being selected ahead of the 22 in the AFL side last night.

You wouldn't consider Lloyd in for Castagna?
-
Gez I like this kid Stengle just got so much footy smarts and skill got a keeper here.
-
I'm almost certain that Bolton will 1 day win us a final off his own boot
-
Good to see we're finally able to develop players. Especially ones taken beyond the first round.
-
Seriously how bad is Hampson :banghead must be the worst player on any list. Wins the hit outs but how bloody often does he hit it straight to the opposition... :banghead i laughed when he missed a hand pass to a teammate under no pressure by 3 feet from a metre away :wallywink and the fresh air kick :lol. Delist ASAP
-
Let me get this straight ......
The Tigers are in two Prelims now ??

VFL Tigers advance to prelim final
Richmond VFL 19.14-128 def Casey 15.11-101
The VFL Tigers sealed a coveted preliminary final spot on Saturday, downing Casey by 27 points in a see-sawing contest at North Port Oval.
After Casey imposed themselves on the match with a solid first quarter, the VFL Tigers blew them out of the water with an eight-goal second quarter and established a 39-point lead by the main break.
While Casey fought back in then third and stayed competitive in the fourth, the damage had already been done, much to the delight of Richmond VFL and development coach Craig McRae.
“We knew Casey were a strong side around the contest,” McRae said.
“It was just about limiting their impact in that part of the game.
“Ideally, we don’t want to have to kick 19 goals to win, but it’s still a great result."
Anthony Miles provided yet another stellar performance at VFL level, reeling in 32 disposals, seven clearances and five tackles as he stood up to the immense pressure of Casey’s relentless midfield brigade.
Fellow usual suspects Sam Lloyd (23 touches, three goals) and Corey Ellis (22 touches, six clearances) were in typically inspired form, while Connor Menadue (16 touches, two goals) also provided excellent value.
Tyson Stengle was in inspired form in front of goal, nailing four majors to lead the scoring for the day, while Ben Lennon, Ben Griffiths, Shai Bolton and Shaun Mannagh scored two goals each in a dominant forward display.
From the opening bounce, it was clear Casey were keen to make amends for last week’s defeat to Williamstown, with the Demons applying intense pressure to every contest.
However, the stingy-stiff defence of the Tigers kept the lead from extending further than eight points, and thanks to three first-quarter goals from Stengle and one to Bolton, the VFL Tigers trimmed the deficit to two points at the first stop.
Tackling machines Jacob Ballard and Reece Conca were relentless in their efforts around the ground, with the former setting himself up to be the overall tackle leader at the end of the day with eight.
The VFL Tigers were then rewarded for their constant efforts, with a second quarter that ranked among their very best for the year.
Jayden Short, who was collecting plenty of ball running through the middle of the ground, snapped cleverly to get the ball rolling, before a quick-fire Lloyd double swung the momentum entirely in the Tiger’s favour.
Stengle, Griffiths, Menadue and Lennon then joined the scoring action as the lead ballooned out to 39 points by the main break, earning a standing ovation from the Tiger faithful at Fortburn.
However, the contest was far from over, and six consecutive Casey goals trimmed the margin from 61 to 26 by the final break.
With the match in the balance, 23rd man Mannagh took the contest by the scruff of the neck, moving into a tagging role on the dangerous Jay Kennedy-Harris and keeping the Dees ball magnet quiet.
Just for good measure, Mannagh then went forward and nailed two majors of his own, consolidating the lead and halting Casey’s late charge.
Lloyd’s third and a Bolton screamer on the siren was the icing on the cake for Tiger fans, who now have two sides into preliminary finals in the AFL and VFL.
Short finished well to record 23 touches four marks and three tackles, while his superb efforts were backed up by VFL Captain Sam Darley (14 touches, three tackles, five rebound-50s) and the ever-reliable Shaun Hampson (50 hitouts), who performed strongly in the ruck against the Demon’s Jake Spencer.
Next week’s preliminary final will be fought out against the Box Hill Hawks, with the match scheduled for a 2:40pm start on Saturday at North Port Oval.

-
Chol is poohouse, Like Cox for the Skunks last week when everyone gets tired they don't get smaller.
Cox is better than Chol....that doesn't mean much either btw!
-
He took a couple of extremely crucial marks in the last that pretty much killed Casey's momentum....there's still hope fir the lad....but when we run the tan this pre-season he should be instructed at the finish line to go around again....and again....and again....
-
Yeah I was there see above ^
-
Yes I read it....point is he gets in the right positions down back more often than not.....it's his lack of tank, work ethic and footy nouse further up the field that are the problems...
-
Why not plsy him as a permanent backman if he looks at home there played best footy there.Understand your point be nice if he can pinch hit in ruck etc and forward.
-
He looks all at sea there atm but I'd like to see him developed more in the ruck....he has the leap and agilty for it.....not as keen about him forward as I once was.....thing is how many genuine ruck/defenders have there been over the years? On the other hand maybe it's time there was and someone has to be the first.... :shh
