FANS are reporting problems buying seats for Saturday’s blockbuster preliminary final at the MCG as thousands flood the Ticketek website this morning.
Tickets have just gone on sale for club members for the Richmond v Greater Western Sydney match with some camping out overnight to snap up precious seats.
Fans have taken to Twitter to express frustration, but the agency has denied the site crashed at any point this morning and is urging fans to be patient.
The agency says it deploys a queuing system to ensure fair access to tickets, which are being snapped up at a rate of 1200 tickets per minute.
But fans are frustrated.
“Another day of people trying to buy finals tickets another day of ticketek crashing, gorgeous,” tweeted one fan.
Others like James Rouel had better luck.
“Had tickets purchased and in my email by 9.03, not sure what all the stress people have over Ticketek,” he tweeted.
Ticketek managing director Cameron Hoy said the website had performed well.
“This morning’s on sale for the Richmond v GWS preliminary final saw thousands of fans secure tickets at a rate of over 1200 tickets per minute from 9am,” he said.
“The Ticketek website performed seamlessly and any assertion that our website crashed is simply baseless and inaccurate.
“As with any major on sale Ticketek deploys a queuing system to ensure fair access to tickets.
“Right throughout this morning’s on sale Ticketek social media response team was engaging directly with fans in real time, encouraging them to be patient, hold their place in the queue and that our systems were operating normally.
“Contrary to the claims by a few fans on social media, the on sale delivered a great experience for the vast majority of fans.”
Richmond has more than 72,000 members.
The capacity of the MCG is just over 100,000.

Was a disgrace today, terrible.
I buy tickets all the time for footy, concerts where there is high demand.
I was ready to go before 9 and it took me over 30mins to actually get into the site despite trying numerous ways and browser windows.
Its never normally an issue.
Then got stuck up the back of level 4.
Who would make the decision to allow two tickets per membership, this has impacted also.
Total rubbish!!

A couple of drunk guys at the taxi rank were going the same way so they decided to split a fare.

PUBLIC tickets for both preliminary finals have sold out.
More tickets may become available later in the week for both Friday night's Adelaide-Geelong clash at Adelaide Oval, and Saturday's Richmond-GWS match at the MCG, if club, AFL or function allocations are not exhausted.
If so, they will go on sale via Ticketek at 2pm ACST on Thursday for the Crows v Cats game, or 12pm AEST for the Tigers v Giants match.
AFL Reserve seats go on sale on Tuesday morning.

Up to 1300 tickets will be released to the public at 12pm (AEST) on Thursday for the preliminary final between Richmond and Greater Western Sydney at the MCG on Saturday evening.
The AFL has estimated a crowd of 97,000 will walk through the MCG gates on Saturday for the Tigers' first preliminary final since 2001.
Should the crowd reach that mark it would be one of the highest-attended games (excluding the Grand Final) on record since 1973.
A crowd of 98,002 was on hand to see Geelong defeat Collingwood by five points in the 2007 preliminary final, which is the highest crowd for a non-Grand Final since the 1970s.
